Our research unveils how China's food-related imports from 1992 to 2020 changed in composition by decreasing the imports of some commodities in favor of others. Their origins suggest that some countries are being substituted as commercial partners for specific commodities. We empirically identified outliers by setting interquartile limits at the commodity level and by origin. Unit-root and normality tests were applied. Finally, Spearman or Pearson correlation coefficients were computed where appropriate. Results indicate that imports are stabilizing during the studied period. China increased its imports of Sugar and cereals to the detriment of edible preparations, live animals, trees, and oilseeds. Some Asian countries are capturing part of the market once dominated by North America or Europe. Finally, lower dependence on partners was found for meat, gums, cocoa, and edible preparations. This methodology might help those analyzing the effects of trade agreements, country specialization, and strategic decisions.

AbstractThis analysis of food imports used an enhanced gravity model of trade, with food imports from approximately 136 countries from 2004 to 2014. Using improved panel data techniques, we show that total income, inflation in the food exporting country, corruption perception in the food exporting country, trade openness in the food exporting economy, GCC membership are important determinants of food imports by Qatar. In addition, we show that Qatari food imports mostly originate in countries with, on average, similar economic sizes. Finally, Qatar's factor endowment is dissimilar to those of most of its trading partners, a situation that potentially fosters international food trade in accordance with the Heckscher–Ohlin theory of trade.

Based on constant prices, the agricultural sector's GRDP growth rate trends to decline between 2018 and 2020. Given the various commodities that have been developed in Gorontalo Regency's agricultural sector, particularly in the food sub-sector, it is hoped that there will soon be superior commodities that are well developed and can positively affect the region's economic growth, particularly in the agricultural sector, particularly in the food sub-sector. The goal of this study was to use LQ (Location Quotient) and SSA (Shift Share Analysis) analysis tools to identify basic and non-basic commodities in the food sub-sector of Gorontalo Regency, identify commodities belonging to progressive growth, and identify the leading commodities in the food sub-sector of Gorontalo Regency. According to the analysis's findings, rice, corn, and soybeans were the three most important fundamental commodities in the Gorontalo Regency's food sub-sector. Corn, rice, and soybeans were among the agricultural products in the Gorontalo Regency that were categorized as having advanced or progressive development. As a new wave of British settlers moved into Ulster following the plantation there in the early seventeenth century, ports, towns, markets and fairs were both established and further developed. The survival of the port books for Londonderry, Coleraine, Carrickfergus and the Lecale ports of County Down for the years 1612–15 offers detailed information of goods imported into Ulster which affords us insights into the consumer habits and preferences of the British settlers now living in that province. While it was hoped by some that the introduction of a new market and trade culture would have a 'civilising' effect upon the Gaelic Irish, evidence of consumer preferences tells a somewhat different story, which a study of Ulster's import trade and settler society in early Plantation Ulster can illustrate.

Food is a basic need that must be fulfilled by every citizen / community and is the right of every resident to fulfill his food needs. So it is natural that many countries whose governments give considerable attention to food-related problems both in terms of demand and supply. Research on demand for food commodities in Tulungagung Regency uses data from SUSENAS (National Socio-Economic Survey) in 2018 obtained from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. The model used in this study is the AIDS (Almost Ideal Demand System) model with the SUR (Seemingly Unrelated Regression) method. The results showed that the factors that influenced the demand for food commodities were rice prices, corn prices, soybean prices, mungbean prices, peanut prices for cassava prices, sweet potato prices, and total household expenditure. Price elasticity is elastic for food commodities (rice, corn, green beans, peanuts, cassava and sweet potatoes). Cross elasticity has a substitution relationship in each commodity and is also complementary in each commodity. Expenditure elasticity shows that all food commodities are normal goods.

Agricultural products, especially cereal grains, serve as staple foods in sub-Saharan Africa. However, climatic conditions in this region can lead to contamination of these commodities by moulds, with subsequent production of mycotoxins posing health risks to both humans and animals.There is limited documentation on the occurrence of mycotoxins in sub-Saharan African countries,leading to the exposure of their populations to a wide variety of mycotoxins through consumption of contaminated foods. This review aims at highlighting the current status of mycotoxin contamination of food products in Zimbabwe and recommended strategies of reducing this problem. Zimbabwe is one of the African countries with very little information with regards to mycotoxin contamination of its food commodities, both on the market and at household levels. Even though evidence of multitoxin occurrence in some food commodities such as maize and other staple foods exist, available published research focuses only on Aspergillus and Fusarium mycotoxins, namely aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol(DON), trichothecenes, fumonisins, and zearalenone (ZEA). Occurrence of mycotoxins in the food chain has been mainly associated with poor agricultural practices. Analysis of mycotoxins has been done mainly using chromatographic and immunological methods. Zimbabwe has adopted European standards, but the legislation is quite flexible, with testing for mycotoxin contamination in food commodities being done voluntarily or upon request. Therefore, the country needs to tighten its legislation as well as adopt stricter standards that will improve the food safety and security of the masses. ; Open access article
