The integration of Lithuania into the European Union requires serious preparation, determining possible changes in agrarian sector and rural development and their consequences, ensuring the necessary information supply to finding and substantiation of rational strategic solutions. The paper analyzes trends of systematic analysis of the agrarian sector of the region, tools for the search of solutions, reveals the possibilities of modelling methods and information technologies application in determining the sustainable development strategy. The suggested methodic of integrated modelling of agricultural production processes in regional and farm level is introduced. Ensuring sustainable territorial development is one of the key tasks for developing regional industries and increasing the level of food security of the regions and the country in general. The solution to the problem of developing and implementing a competitive mechanism for territorial development should be based on the principles and methods of modern strategic territorial-sectoral planning with a focus on the maximum use of the resources of the existing local potential. This study analyzes modeling as an effective management tool for integrated regional development. To that end, approaches based on constructing multivariate regression models are utilized. Based on the results, the main problem of management systems for the integrated territorial development is associated with an incorrect assessment of their starting capabilities, which results in the low performance of the implementation mechanism. A reliable methodological basis here can be an approach to managing territorial development using a system of linked indicators that consider more than just the parameters of social development. The list of priority areas (blocks), which should serve as a fundamental basis for developing concepts for the integrated development of regions, must include natural and climatic, technical and technological, infrastructural, and marketing characteristics.

This short paper reviews the range of planning issues that are currently being addressed in Britain and considers how the nature of these issues and the ways in which choices are being assessed impact the modeling approaches being adopted, in particular, by the author's own consultancy practice. The paper briefly outlines current developments in governance and analytical requirements; implications of trends toward more detailed (and more time-consuming) transport modeling; and the role of microsimulation in both research and planning practice. It concludes primarily that the practicality of model operation, particularly in terms of model run times, is of critical importance, and in many cases, determines whether major planning decisions are made on the basis of formal analysis rooted, albeit indirectly, in research, or without such a basis at all. A secondary conclusion relates to the possible use of output from detailed microsimulation models as a basis for calibrating aggregate models.

AbstractMIMIK (Method and Instruments for Modeling Integrated Knowledge) is a set of tools used to formalize and represent knowledge within organizations. It furthermore supports knowledge creation and sharing within communities of interest or communities of practice. In this paper we show that MIMIK is based on a model theory approach and builds on other existing methods and techniques. We also explain how to use the method and its instruments in order to model strategic objectives, processes, knowledge, and roles found within an organization, as well as relations existing between these elements. Indeed MIMIK provides eight types of models in order to describe what is commonly called know‐how, know‐why and know‐what; it uses matrices in order to formally and semantically link strategic objectives, knowledge and actors. We close this paper with a presentation of a prototype we built in order to demonstrate a technical architecture allowing for knowledge creation, formalization and sharing.
