This paper deals with the aggregate effects of small, exogenous but idiosyncratic technological shocks on locally interacting firms. Its main purpose is to model a situation in which technological paradigms emerge through endogenous propagation and diffusion of information leading to an aggregate pattern. We develop a theoretical framework in which large technological correlations emerge due to localised interaction of single firms. The paper states some simple results on spill-over dynamics determined by firms trying to improve their current technology and thus generating new information through investment in R&D and through localised technological search. The first part shows that different growth regimes can arise from the general framework of interaction that we propose. The second part shows that an interesting regime characterised both by long run innovation growth and endogenous short run fluctuations emerges spontaneously.
At the turn of the fourteenth century (1295-1301), the Florentine Dominican Remigio de' Girolami produced a collection of essential texts connected to events in Florentine politics that present the testimony of a well-informed intellectual directly involved in the Communal crises. This article proposes to analyze, as a case study, the influence of Remigio's five sermons on Florentine communal life. His preaching in reaction to the crises shaking Florence happened in dialogue with the institutions and citizens of the Commune. It bears witness to the interactions between Santa Maria Novella and the city of Florence and contributes to the development of the political philosophy of its time.
The paper introduces the World War I memorials in Hungary within the historiographical framework of the 'memory boom'. It discusses the artistic sources that were used in their formation, their characteristics and types. Special attention is paid to the description of their role as a communication tool in the hands of contemporary politics. Brief overview concentrating on legal requirements and on elements of the commemoration acts provides a historical and social background for the case study. The center memorial that still exists in the capital of Hungary, is analyzed thoroughly with detailed descriptions and contextualization. The three phases of the National Heroes' Monument can be seen as the three sections of Hungarian history in 20th century, and an artistic realization of the contemporary power's message about the given section of the past. At the end, the author places the paper's topic into the scholarly discourse of nation building, by adapting the notion of imagined community of Anderson, Calhoun and Finlayson.
This book investigates the relationship between design (specifically, the Human-Centred Design, Interaction Design and User Experience approaches) and the complex area of Human-Robot Interaction (specifically, social robotics for care). The research begins by framing the scientific problem of demographic aging and the increasing diffusion of wearable and robotic technologies for assisting and supporting the well-being and independence of the elderly and frail. Then, the research examines the role, contributions, and challenges of design in relation to the issue of acceptability in robotics, both from a theoretical-epistemological as well as from a practical-applicative viewpoint. The book, therefore, investigates methods and tools for implementing cross-disciplinary collaboration and for designing acceptability and interaction with new technologies in order to improve the quality of life and psychophysical health of human beings. The overall goal of the of the research presented in this volume is to bridge the gap between the two scientific areas of design and robotics, and let them converge in order to design assistive and social robots that can be effectively accepted as well as appropriate for people's specific needs. This is made possible through the development of a connection between the methodological approaches and tools of both disciplines in order to structure a framework for: cross-disciplinary collaboration and management of development processes in robotics research projects and design; and the application of the iterative process peculiar of HCD to robotics. On this basis, the research output was developed, namely the operational tool "Robotics & Design: the tool to design Human-Centered Assistive Robotics" which can be found at the link: www.roboticsdesign.org.
In particular, starting from the pontificates of Urban VIII and Innocent X, the article analyses the path that led to the emanation of the Papal bull "Sollicitudo omnium Ecclesiarum" (1661, under Alexander VII). In the two decades here examined it appears clear both the ductility of the indications that Philip IV gave to his extraordinary ambassadors, and the importance of the political and ecclesiological implications of the arguments used by the Habsburg Monarchy in favour of the proclamation of the dogma: the concept of orthodoxy, the role of the general council, the uniformity of liturgy, cults and devotions within the catholicity, the possibilities of intervention of the secular powers in matters of doctrine.
