Based on the key criteria of accession to the European Union for applicant country is defined, that in addition to the basic requirements in the European Union leading papers (in particular, the Maastricht Treaty and the Copenhagen Declaration of the European Council), the quality and speed of the integration process in Ukraine still is affected by internal factors, one of which is internal consolidation.Based on the analysis of sociological research of leading sociological services Ukraine (Razumkov Centre, Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, «Democratic initiatives named by Ilko Kucheriv) is determined that, on the one hand, there are some regional differences in the formation of social identity, but on the other – there is a tendency to realize themselves as Ukrainian union nation. The author approves that a leading role in the formation of national unity belongs to the national idea, which is based on an understanding of the multicultural nature of the country's citizens; consistent democratization and political institutions; providing the rule of law, with special control over freedom of expression; formation of a functioning civil society; effective line of foreign policy, focusing on the European vector; formation of political culture as an individual citizen and the political elite based on a regional factor. The study determined that the expectation of the Association Agreement and the subsequent desire to join the EU has been a powerful consolidating factor for Ukrainians. At the same time this consolidation serves a condition of further Ukraine aspirations to the European integration.

AbstractInternal migration has been recognized as the major influence in terms of population redistribution across urban systems, but it is not a homogeneous phenomenon. Within the context of internal rural‐urban migration decline and the negative changes in migratory balances in the metropolitan area of Mexico City, the core of enquiry in this paper is the approach to growth and consolidation of an internal urban–urban migration system in the early twenty‐first century (2000–2015). This process has taken place through two main networks, among metropolitan areas not corresponding to the principal city and among intermediate cities. Internal migration is a complex process that involves both individual and spatial characteristics and which leads to spatially uneven development in the long term. Data from three censuses of the population of Mexico (2000, 2010, and 2015) show a transition to a more urban–urban migration pattern, with skilled migrants tending to have metropolitan and urban destinations, whereas less‐skilled migrants prefer rural and small urban destinations.

This article investigates the major reasons accounting for the failure of internal party democracy (IPD) in Nigeria's Fourth Republic, despite extensive constitutional and other legal provisions to guarantee it. I examine the parody of IPD in Nigeria, exemplified in faulty processes employed in the nomination of political party electoral candidates. In doing so, I establish that the nonuse (practice) of IPD in the nomination of party candidates for elections weakens party unity and institutionalization, and negatively affects democratic consolidation. The article posits that attempts to institutionalize IPD through state‐mandated legislations apparently do not guarantee that party leadership will abide by it in a high‐formalism environment. Yet this does not undermine the necessity for performance‐driven, rather than control‐driven, state legislations for parties if party institutionalization and democratic consolidation will be enhanced. The research provides further grounds for understanding the intricacies of IPD, party organization, and institutionalization in a democratizing environment, such as Nigeria.Related ArticlesIshiyama, John, and Krystal Fox. 2006. The article deals with the problem of internal migration in the conditions of hybrid war in modern Ukraine. It is affirmed that the problem of migration is one of the tests for Ukrainian society on the ability of consolidation. The complex of problems generated by the resettlement of people from temporarily occupied territories is outlined and the author's understanding of their essence and the ways of solving is given. It has been proved that internal migration, as well as external, caused by the state of human depersonalization, which is the result of certain objective and subjective reasons, the most terrible of which is the war. The quantitative and qualitative composition of internally displaced persons in modern Ukraine, types of displacements, and also the reasons for choosing a certain vector of movement are determined. The gender imbalance of internal migration and its causes were revealed. The main problems of internal migrants are identified, namely: the search for housing, employment and integration into the new socio-cultural environment. In estimated the possibilities of solving the above-mentioned problems and determined the leading help agents are determinate. It is emphasized that in the process of resettlement and arrangement in a new place the state plays a minor role. The leading role belongs to volunteers and public organizations. It is revealed that in general the process of resettlement of citizens from temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine takes place without significant conflicts, and Ukrainians are adequately responding to the challenges of internal migration. It was emphasized that the hybrid war raises a number of problems, but also opens up the possibility of consolidation and solidarity of Ukrainian society. Direct communication of people from different regions destroys stereotypes and promotes the integration of Ukrainians. The accent is on redefining the citizens' attitude towards Ukrainian statehood, state independence and national-state symbols. It is established that the degree of consolidation is growing in crisis conditions, and in the current situation in Ukraine, consolidation also implies unity with other countries that support the civilizational choice of our Motherland.
There is a growing disconnect between Europeanization and democratization in the immediate neighborhood of the European Union. Often overlooked by euro-centric academic research, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine are a litmus test for the challenges facing democratic consolidation in a geopolitically contested region. The study dissects the relationship between Europeanization and Democratization processes in the three countries; scrutinizes the internal and external challenges to democratic consolidation and critically assesses the effectiveness of EU's normative power projection in the region. In the process, the author challenges Huntington's concept of 'snowballing', disconfirming his one directional democratic cascade theory in the specific condition of the countries comprising the case study. The unique condition of these countries is epitomized by the European Union's facilitation of democracy, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, Russia's facilitation of the status quo, while also encouraging undemocratic practices. This challenges the neofunctionalist democratic spillover expectation and accredits a path-dependent neo-institutionalist account of democratization in the region. Moreover, the author finds robust evidence in support of the modernization theory of democracy, while also confirming the negative effects of active geopolitical competition on the battleground countries. The study questions the efficacy of EU's democracy promotion efforts and argues in favor of anchoring the three countries on the European integration track as an imperative mechanism for boosting the chances of democratic consolidation.

The subject of this study was the theoretical-methodological and applied aspects of studying and analyzing the level of public trust in public authorities as a factor in the consolidation of society and state security. The authors used systemic and structural-functional approaches to analyze external and internal factors that affect the trust of the country's population in public administration bodies, and a situational approach to study the influence of spatial and temporal factors on the formation and development of public trust in government structures. The problem of studying the formation and development of trust in public bodies among the population is quite urgent, especially in the context of modern structural changes in the country, and the material proposed in the article allows us to identify the necessary trajectories of research into this phenomenon.

Over the past eight years, Iran's conservative leadership has effectively tightened its hold on power, thwarting attempts at political reform. It has centralised decision-making, strengthened the Revolutionary Guard, invested in new strategic weapons, built ties of patronage and effectively used economic levers to assert control. The conservatives' consolidation of power now constitutes the framework of Iran's power politics, which will in turn determine the nature and scope of internal political developments after the 2005 presidential elections, the country's response to outside pressures regarding the nuclear issue, and the kind of government which is likely to evolve in the Islamic Republic.
