Metacognitive performance of four groups of students (hearing
high-achieving, hearing average-achieving, hearing underachieving, and
deaf and hard of hearing) in first through third grade in the United
Arab Emirates was examined and compared. Metacognition was measured using
analyses of pictures depicting real-life problematic events, situations,
and behaviors. Participants drew on their ability to apply problem
solving and logical reasoning through visual analysis and discrimination
of test materials rather than through verbal analysis. Results revealed
that metacognition is influenced by students' age. Older students
scored significantly higher on the metacognitive measure than younger
students. Further analysis indicated that hearing high-achieving students
scored significantly higher on the test than the other three groups when
the age variable was controlled for. Deaf and hard of hearing students
performed similarly to age-matched hearing students in applying reasoning
skills to real-life situations.

Die BAMF-Kurzanalyse 5|2021 gibt einen Einblick in die Sozialstruktur, die Umstände des Ankommens sowie die Lebenssituationen von in Deutschland lebenden Geflüchteten im Alter von 45 Jahren und älter. Vorwiegend auf Basis der 3. Welle der IAB-BAMF-SOEP-Befragung von Geflüchteten aus dem Jahr 2018 untersucht die Autorin die Zusammensetzung der Gruppe der Geflüchteten im Alter von 45 Jahren und älter, die hauptsächlich zwischen 2013 und 2016 nach Deutschland kamen, hinsichtlich des Geschlechts, Alters und der Herkunftsländer. Zudem werden ihre Ankunft und das Einleben in Deutschland betrachtet, wobei ein besonderes Augenmerk auf der familiären und sozialen Situation liegt. Zuletzt werden auch die Sorgen und Zufriedenheit dieser Personengruppe in verschiedenen Lebensbereichen beleuchtet.

This paper examines the organization of death. Through an ethnographic study, we examine how a geriatrics department guides the end of life. Drawing on Agamben, we show that organizations that are dedicated to life, but regularly confronted with death, develop dispositifs (mechanisms, technologies, practices and relationships) to turn biopolitics (power over life) into thanatopolitics (a regime of death). We also show how the inherently political meaning of life disrupts such government of death. The inclusion of political life in a regime of death disrupts organizational practices that find themselves facing fundamental questions of what makes a life worth living, who can decide not to prolong life, and based on which criteria.

The context of the research was the educational dimension of the life situation of older people. The life situation of seniors may depend on various factors. One of them is the activity they undertake. Educational activity, broadly understood, plays a special role in this area. It can be an important factor in changing (improving) the life situation of elderly people.
The aim of the research was to show the role of education (educational activity) as a factor in changing the life situation of older people.
The applied research method was the analysis of existing data, taking into account, in particular, publications in the field of social and educational gerontology and social pedagogy.
The results of the research indicated the important role of education (educational activity) as a factor in changing the life situation of older people, as well as the need to undertake various activities in the field of educational activation of seniors, and to support their comprehensive development. A special role in this area should be played by educational, cultural and aid institutions and organizations, the mass media, as well as the elderly communities themselves.
The conclusions from the research were that undertaking various educational and supportive activities contributes to increasing the possibilities of older people to influence their own life situation and to improve the quality of their lives.

In der BAMF-Kurzanalyse 1|2021 wird untersucht, wie sich die Lebenssituationen von jungen geflüchteten Frauen und Männern zwischen 2016 und 2018 entwickelt haben. Es werden Veränderungen im Erwerbs-, Bildungs- und Familienstatus der jungen Geflüchteten berücksichtigt. Die Autorin analysierte Daten der ersten drei Erhebungswellen der IAB-BAMF-SOEP-Befragung von Geflüchteten aus den Jahren 2016, 2017 und 2018. Im Zentrum der Kurzanalyse steht die Entwicklung der Lebenssituationen von jungen Geflüchteten, die bei Einreise in Deutschland zwischen 18 und 25 Jahre alt waren. Es werden Umstände und Bedingungen bei Ankunft in Deutschland sowie das Einleben in Deutschland näher betrachtet. Um das Einleben der jungen Geflüchteten in Deutschland zu erfassen, werden neben Entwicklungen im aufenthaltsrechtlichen Status auch Veränderungen in der Wohn- und Familiensituation sowie dem Bildungs- und Erwerbsstatus nachgezeichnet. Zudem wird untersucht, inwieweit sich die Entwicklungen bei jungen Geflüchteten mit denen von gleichaltrigen in Deutschland geborenen jungen Erwachsenen sowie von älteren Geflüchteten ähneln. Abschließend wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie junge geflüchtete Frauen und Männer 2018 ihren Alltag gestaltet haben.

The article deals with the social and individual psychological characteristics of persons who moved either from abroad or from other regions of Russia, experiencing various hardships and are thus in a difficult situation. The study provides an analysis of the most effective social and psychological techniques to work with such a category of citizens, based on the experience of the Tula region. The study purpose is to define the social parameters and psychological characteristics of persons for over six-month period receiving the care of government services, charities and other social NGOs. As a result, the most typical characterological features of representatives of this social group are identified, such as external level of subjective control, tendency to shift the responsibility on to the government bodies, the trend towards avoidance of failure, personal satisfaction of the situation, the lack of deep depression, the presence of psychological and physical resources to overcome difficult situations. The article also describes the representatives of migrants, which are characterized by the success of social and psychological adaptation. The description is given of the socio-psychological mechanisms that enable immigrants to adapt, experiencing a variety of difficulties. The results described in this article make it possible to focus in working with such a category of citizens in the most effective options for their socio-psychological adaptation. The article is aimed at examining the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in the co-operative behaviour of a person, analysing and presenting foreign and Russian research in this area. The results of empirical research are given. The sample consisted of 243 people aged 18 to 67 years (61 men and 182 women, the average age – 36.1 years), of which 107 participants noted that they are middle and senior managers, 136 respondents are employees. The study used the EIT methodology («Emotional Intelligence Test») and the questionnaire CISS (Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations). Correlation analysis revealed the following correlations: positive – between the common EI, domains and branches of EI and problem-oriented copying, and negative – between the experienced domain and common EI with emotionally oriented coping. According to regression analysis, the cumulative effect of the four branches of EI is more pronounced when problem-oriented coping is chosen, and the ability to understand and analyse emotions makes the greatest contribution. The management team has demonstrated the ability to influence the emotions of others and to resort more often to problem-based coping, while the non-management team better recognises emotions in the surrounding space.
