Within a linguistic continuum, the further from the irradiation centre, the later a language is affected by a change; the later a language is reached by a change, the milder the outcomes. Building upon these wave-theoretic assumptions, this dissertation provides a formal description of the relationship between diatopic/diachronic micro-variation and phonologization. In particular, an analysis is performed of the phonetic/phonological properties of unstressed vowel reduction and vowel insertion in two Northern Italian dialects: Carrarese and Pontremolese. These dialects are argued to represent two frozen stages of these processes' diffusion, Carrarese representing the diachronic stage Pontremolese has already gone through. Indeed, Pontremolese displays non-etymological vocoids that show the phonetic and phonological characteristics of epenthetic vowels and that, crucially, can be considered the phonologized correlates of Carrarese's intrusive vocoids. These, in turn, should be rather considered articulatory/perceptually driven vowel-like releases. A formal account of this diatopic, diachronic and grammatical relationship is given that supports a modular grammar architecture, in which phonetics and phonology constitute, hence, two autonomous modules. Within such an architecture, the lateral forces (government and licensing) developed by standard Government Phonology are translated into violable constraints and inserted in a BiPhon grammar. In this optimality-theoretic grammar, the phonetics-phonology interface is managed by a set of cue constraints that map acoustic dimensions (formant structures) onto phonological primitives (elements). Furthermore, to integrate morphological information in the phonological forms, the Coloured Containment Theory is resorted to. This dissertation is of relevance to anyone interested in diatopic/diachronic micro-variation, phonologization, phonological theory and Italian dialectology.

La tesi si propone di rispondere alla seguente domanda: "Il processo di costruzione del Profilo di Salute di una zona, come si evince dalle argomentazioni di Elena Allegri, Elvio Raffaello Martini e Franco Vernò, può veramente migliorare il servizio sociale di comunità e sviluppare il senso di comunità? Il caso preso in esame è la costruzione del Profilo di Salute della Lunigiana. La tesi è articolata in tre capitoli che corrispondono a tre diverse fasi del lavoro svolto. La prima fase del lavoro è relativa all'analisi della letteratura sul servizio sociale di comunità, partendo dal tentativo di darne una definizione. Vengono approfonditi tre autori, Elena Allegri, Elvio Raffaello Martini e Franco Vernò, che, partendo da approcci diversi, sviluppano il tema dello sviluppo di comunità fornendo tecniche, metodologie e spunti etico-morali. Vengono poi analizzate le responsabilità professionali dell'assistente sociale, riassumendo il titolo V del Codice Deontologico dell'assistente sociale. Il fondamento teorico è premessa dello studio del caso Lunigiana che verrà preso in esame nelle fasi successive. La seconda fase, attraverso l'analisi di fonti secondarie di dati, di documenti e la mia esperienza lavorativa, si concentra sul servizio sociale di comunità in Lunigiana. Viene ricostruita una fotografia del contesto Lunigiana, dei bisogni sociali del territorio, dei fattori di vulnerabilità, del tessuto associativo, e della Società della Salute della Lunigiana, in particolare la sua organizzazione partecipata con la Consulta ed il Comitato di partecipazione. Si tenta di ricostruire il quadro attraverso fonti Istat, dati presenti nel Profilo di Salute, nell'Immagine di Salute e nel Piano Integrato di Salute della Lunigiana ed esperienze di lavoro sul campo. La terza parte analizza qualitativamente il servizio sociale di comunità della Lunigiana, attraverso l'analisi del processo di costruzione del Profilo di Salute della Lunigiana, e la verifica dei risultati attesi, alla luce delle teorizzazioni di Elena Allegri, Elvio Raffaello Martini e Franco Vernò. Lo strumento utilizzato per verificare se il processo di costruzione del Profilo di Salute ha migliorato il senso di comunità è l'osservazione partecipante di incontri pubblici promossi dalla Società della Salute della Lunigiana dal titolo: " La Società della Salute: i cittadini e i servizi". Questi incontri sono stati promossi in ogni Comune della Lunigiana e avranno compimento nell'Agorà della Salute, un istituto di partecipazione, previsto nella Società della Salute, insieme al Comitato di Partecipazione e alla Consulta del terzo settore, per favorire la partecipazione dei cittadini attraverso uno scambio diretto di esigenze, opinioni e critiche. Dall'analisi effettuata è emerso che il lavoro svolto in questi anni, di politica concertata per l'elaborazione del Profilo di Salute e dei conseguenti Piani Integrati di Salute ha contribuito a sviluppare il senso di comunità in Lunigiana, territorio comunque da sempre particolarmente attivo e sensibile a livello di comunità, con una sua tradizione di solidarietà, associazionismo e valorizzazione del terzo settore.

Il saggio analizza le relazioni tra Pisa e Federico I e in particolare evidenzia come lo stretto rapporto tra l'imperatore e la città toscana permise prima l'autonomia del comune e poi la nascita delle infrastrutture portuali e l'evolversi delle istituzioni marittime. Ne emerge un quadro complesso in cui la città della torre è coinvolta in una partita politica che vide coinvolte Genova, il regno normanno, l'Impero bizantino e quello romano-germanico e la Chiesa. La sconfitta del Barbarossa coincise con il ridimensionamento della politica mediterranea di Pisa, che tuttavia ricominciò a tessere la propria rete di relazioni politiche e commerciali e a sviluppare sulla fine del XII secolo le nuove istituzioni marittime, come l'Ordo maris.

This book focuses on one of the prime movers in the unification of Lunigiana – a region which at the time was still broken up into a myriad of tiny feudal holdings, almost all in the hands of the various branches of the Malaspina family. The process of unification began in the fifteenth century, when various areas of the region were conquered by Milan and Florence, which also divided between them the hegemony of the remaining independent territories, while Genoa too displayed an interest in expansion in the region. As a result it became crucial for the local lords to manoeuvre between the various forces at play to maintain the independence of their own little states. Among the figures who displayed the greatest dexterity in this was Gabriele Malaspina, who became a leading player on the stage of local history. The book starts by illustrating the period in which Malaspina succeeded in obtaining his political independence, and then goes on to analyse the phase in which his policy came to be characterised by an absolute loyalty to Florence. Finally the book addresses the last part of the Marquis's life, marked by a progressive distancing from the Florentine alliance in favour of other entities, in which he nevertheless always succeeded in maintaining his independence. - Al centro di questo volume è uno degli attori principali nel processo di riunificazione della Lunigiana – regione allora suddivisa in tante piccole signorie, quasi tutte nelle mani dei vari rami della famiglia Malaspina – che avvenne nel XV secolo, quando Milano e Firenze vi conquistarono diversi territori e si spartirono l'egemonia sui restanti territori autonomi, mentre anche Genova si mostrò interessata all'espansione in quella zona. Per i signori locali divenne quindi fondamentale riuscire a destreggiarsi fra le varie forze in gioco per mantenere l'indipendenza del proprio piccolo stato, e fra i personaggi che più risaltano per questa loro abilità e per il ruolo giocato nella storia locale spicca Gabriele Malaspina. Il libro inizia mostrando la situazione della Lunigiana al momento in cui il Malaspina ottenne la propria indipendenza politica, per poi analizzare il periodo in cui la politica marchionale si caratterizzò per la sua assoluta fedeltà all'amicizia fiorentina, e quindi la parte finale della vita del marchese, in cui si assiste a un progressivo allontanamento dall'alleanza fiorentina in favore di altri soggetti, ma in cui riuscì sempre a mantenere la sua indipendenza.

L'uomo medievale era per eccellenza un homo viator. Tuttavia se le ragioni che mettevano l'uomo in cammino sono sostanzialmente individuabili nelle tre fondamentali attività del pellegrinaggio religioso, della mercatura e della spedizione militare, dobbiamo ammettere che al di fuori di queste tre categorie ci sono i molti che si spostavano quotidianamente, saltuariamente o anche poche volte nella vita, per varie esigenze concrete, ci sono i pastori nella transumanza (verticale e orizzontale) e nel pascolo vagante, i fedeli verso luoghi di culto locali, i contrabbandieri, gli emarginati. Una complessità che sbaglieremmo nel continuare a sottostimare: le strade sono solo uno dei modi per muoversi, e la rete stradale rintracciabile (ovvero solitamente le direttrici più importanti) esclude molti luoghi di spostamento, dove circolano persone, animali, oggetti, idee. In questo contributo, dunque, cercheremo di praticare un'archeologia della mobilità, soprattutto nella consapevolezza che gli elementi da noi analizzati, ospedali e in seconda battuta monasteri, rappresentano solo un tassello, da inserire in una riflessione più ampia e più articolata. Luni e Lucca sono due città medievali segnate profondamente dalla vicinanza dell'Appennino, delle sue strade e dei suoi valichi. Situate entrambe allo sbocco di valli fluviali che penetrano a fondo la catena e che costituiscono naturali direttrici da e per l'Italia settentrionale, data la loro vicinanza hanno intessuto nei secoli un intenso rapporto di reciprocità "stradale", rappresentando, con le loro specificità, due nodi stradali di grande rilevanza: Luni anche per la sua ubicazione marittima, Lucca per la sua funzione di collettore di vie terrestri e fluviali. L'ambito geografico è quindi dato dai territori delle due città nel Medioevo, che abbiamo identificato con l'estensione delle diocesi, togliendo nel caso di Lucca le enclave meridionali situate a sud dell'Arno. L'ambito cronologico è invece esteso fino a tutto il XIII secolo, con lo scopo precipuo di comprendere un periodo nel quale le fonti scritte ci restituiscono più compiutamente il fenomeno ospedaliero.

"This book traces the origins of a financial institution, the modern corporation, in Genoa and reconstructs its diffusion in England, the Netherlands, and France. At its inception, the Casa di San Giorgio (1407-1805) was entrusted with managing the public debt in Genoa. Over time, it took on powers we now ascribe to banks and states, accruing financial characteristics and fiscal, political, and territorial powers. As one of the earliest central banks, it ruled territories and local populations for almost a century. It controlled strategic Genoese possessions near and far, including the island of Corsica, the city of Famagusta (in Cyprus), and trading posts in Crimea, the Black Sea, the Lunigiana in northern Tuscany, and various towns in Liguria. In the early sixteenth century, in his Florentine Histories (Book VIII, Chapter 29), Niccolò Machiavelli was the first to analyze the relationship between the Casa di San Giorgio's financial and territorial powers, declaring its possession of territories as the basis of its ascendancy. Later, the founders of some of the earliest corporations, including the Dutch East India Company (1602), the Bank of England (1694), and John Law's Mississippi Company (1720) in France, referenced the model of the Casa di San Giorgio"--

The fortification of Bosa Castle overlooking the valley of the river Temo and the medieval old town of Bosa (XII-XIV centuries). His tactical position militarily, which allowed control of the land from the sea to the river, setting up urban in the valley (Bosa Vetus), allowed the exploitation for centuries, even as a place of sighting to face sudden attacks of brigands or Saracen enemies. The site initially belonged to the Giudicato di Torres (around the X cent.), And finally twelve hundred to Malaspina (from Lunigiana). Later the castle suffered many renovations of Turrritani, Malaspina, Arborea, the Aragonese, although overall preserves the defensive structure built by the Marquis of Tuscany and Liguria. Its decline began in the second half of the sixteenth century in favor of nearby Alghero populated by Catalans. This research proposal intends to define the petrographical and physical features and the weathering alteration of geomaterial used for the castle. The study of petro-volcanological features (i.e. structure, sialic and mafic minerals, welding degree) by macroscopic observations is the starting point for preliminary recognition of the different stones. Then, the analysis of texture and paragenesis on thin section by optical observations are made. Laboratory tests have been conducted to evaluate the physical-mechanical properties (density, water-absorption, porosity, PLT punching index, compressive and traction strength). The mapping of alteration forms and the causes of decay, in relation to varying volcanites and microclimatic-environmental conditions, have been studied.
