"The purpose of this anthology is to show different perspectives on epistemology, research roles and contexts in action research. Contributors are researchers who have extensive experience in combining practice development and knowledge development in action research projects.
Several of the articles focus on the epistemological and methodological basis of action research and dilemmas related to the role of the researcher. Questions concerning the purpose of action research, methods of change, and what kind of knowledge is to be developed by and for whom are discussed. Some of the articles explore challenges that are about fundamental values, power, democracy, and dialogue in action research.
The articles also provide examples of how action research can be carried out in different contexts. Some articles are about researching your own practice, possibly with colleagues, students or other partners. There are also examples that show how researchers at universities are invited into ongoing research work e.g. in schools, health institutions, local communities or companies. The researchers contribute in various ways to facilitate the development process, with professional input, and with documentation.
Combining development and research, regardless of context, requires researchers to explain their position, and in collaboration with the participants clarify what roles or functions the participants should have and what is the goal of the development and research. An important issue in the anthology is to point out that action research as collaborative research will necessarily involve dilemmas related to power, values and different views on knowledge. We hope that the anthology will help to raise awareness of such dilemmas."
Sámi Law: A Methodological Approach
In: Arctic review on law and politics, Band 11, S. 215-232
ISSN: 2387-4562
Sámi law is the law of the Indigenous Sámi people. The territory where Sámi have historically lived is called Sápmi and encompasses parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. This article builds on the premise that Sámi law exists in Sápmi, in parallel with national laws. However, in terms of methodology and content, the scope of research on Sámi law compared to research about Indigenous law in Canada is limited. This article first describes an Indigenous law research methodology which approaches stories as a source of Indigenous law. The methodology was developed in Canada and applied to the Canadian Access to Justice and Reconciliation Project. The article then discusses this research methodology in relation to Sámi law.
This book presents wide-ranging video research in pedagogical contexts that have previously received little notice. Video research is, and can be employed for, so much more that standing in a classroom and filming with a camera. That is what we hope to achieve with this book – to demonstrate the inherent flexibility in video, that it can serve as one tool among many and be utilized in a variety of settings in several different ways. We want to emphasize the fact that you don't need a professional lab with lots of equipment to do quality video research. All you need is a camera, a microphone, and a good plan for what you can, and cannot, capture in your project.
Video Research in Educational Settings: Diverse Video Data in Pedagogical Research and Development is written primarily for other researchers, including those who are just beginning their research activities (such as master students and PhD candidates) and are interested in discovering how flexible, applicable and creative data collection can be with the help of video, and how rich the data material one obtains can be. The chapters represent a broad cross-disciplinary approach, yet with one common denominator: the use of video in different educational arenas, not only for data collection, but also for stimulating reflection, learning and greater expertise.

Modelling Ocean Connectivity
In: Arctic review on law and politics, Band 12, S. 186-189
ISSN: 2387-4562
Regulatory coherence is crucial to effectively respond to the growing pressures that our oceans are facing. Applying the interpretative lens of ocean connectivity to ocean governance can help address the challenges from a material, epistemic, and geopolitical viewpoint. This special issue intends to uncover various understandings of ocean connectivity taking into account the complex biocultural interactions happening in the marine environment. The research aim is divided into two objectives: (1) to explore the various conceptualizations of ocean connectivity; and (2) to provide a critical analysis on how the law (of the sea) considers or disregards ocean connectivity. Our research methodology combines a literature review and a mapping technique that examines the models of connectivity. The mapping technique has been developed by adopting the 'one-pager approach', where the authors have been asked to answer two research questions, aligned with our research objectives. We structured the work into an introductory section and three main articles. The understanding of ocean connectivity is key to developing international marine policy and suggesting legal tools for the protection of the marine environment. Moving from this angle towards an understanding of connectivity which includes bio-centric elements, Indigenous cosmo-visions, and anthropocentric connectivity, we identified three models of connectivity and explored their suitability to address the systemic challenges.
