The present work attempts to provide a more realistic description of international labour migration within a simple core-periphery model à-la Fujita, Krugman and Venables (1999). The choice of this benchmark model is motivated by the key role it plays in the most recent and sophisticated dynamic spatial general equilibrium model, such as the Regional Holistic model (RHOMOLO) model developed by the European Commission (EC) for simulating policy scenario related to the European Union (EU) cohesion policies and for evaluating its implications on the economies of the Member States of the Union. The first part of the work consists in a concise review of the relevant international trade theories and the main international migration theories. In the second part, after a concise description of the simple 2-region core-periphery model developed by Fujita et al. (1999), the migration law à-la Krugman (1991a) is modified to include other drivers, such as political instability and climate change in the less developed country. In the last part, the evolution of the key endogenous variables of the model will be simulated and some policy implications of the model will be discussed. This work shows that, although it has been used the simplest (and less complete) baseline model, the introduction of the sociopolitical and the environmental driver for international migration plays a key role in the dynamic spatial general equilibrium approach.

The article examines various theatrical experiences dealing with the theme of travel, in relation to its double meaning of migration and tourism. The connection between theatre and travel concern several dimensions. From the metaphorical one, to the wandering attitude of theatre companies and to the ethnographic vocation of the 20th-century avant-garde. By combining reflections coming from the mobility turn (Sheller e Urry 2006; Cresswell 2010; Elliott e Urry 2010; Sheller 2018; Musarò e Moralli, 2019) and the ethnographic turn (Clifford 1988; Foster 1996; Rutten et al. 2013; Grimshaw e Ravetz 2015), we will observe how theatre artists can expand the understanding of the social practices of contemporary mobility through their theatrical research as well as through their lived experiences. The article will then trace several cases in which migration and/or tourism act as a dramaturgical trigger for reflective practices on theatre and politics, expressed through the participatory character of some of the works examined. More specifically, the theme of migration will be observed through the works of Ateliersi, Teatro delle Albe, Motus, Davide Enia, while the touristic dimension will be explored by looking at the performances Menoventi and Kepler 452. ; A partire dalla originaria connessione fra il teatro e le dimensioni del viaggio, non solo dal punto di vista metaforico ma nell'attitudine errante dei teatranti del passato e nella vocazione etnografica degli esponenti delle avanguardie novecentesche, l'articolo indaga le modalità con cui alcune realtà teatrali molto diverse fra loro affrontano il tema del viaggio nelle diverse angolature indicate nella call: migrazione e turismo. Facendo convergere le riflessioni che si sono innescate intorno al mobility turn (Sheller e Urry 2006; Cresswell 2010; Elliott e Urry 2010; Sheller 2018; Musarò e Moralli, 2019) e all'ethnografic turn (Clifford 1988; Foster 1996; Rutten et al. 2013; Grimshaw e Ravetz 2015) si osserverà attraverso le ricerche teatrali come l'esperienza vissuta da ciascun artista possa ampliare i contesti che stanno intorno alle diverse forme di pratiche sociali della mobilità contemporanea dentro alle quali convergono gli studi sul turismo e le migrazioni. Si tratta di rintracciare i casi in cui migrazione e/o turismo come inneschi drammaturgici si rivelano degli interessanti ambiti di osservazione della pratica riflessiva del teatro e della tendenza politica, che emerge non solo dalle tematiche ma anche dal carattere partecipativo di alcune delle opere. Da una parte il fenomeno migratorio viene osservato attraverso l'approfondimento di alcuni lavori scenici di Ateliersi, Teatro delle Albe, Motus, Davide Enia. Dall'altra il fenomeno turistico viene osservato attraverso l'analisi di alcuni lavori di Menoventi e Kepler 452.

The article focuses on the life-story of a Slovenian emigrant Stanka that serves as a basis to elucidate the processes of illegal migrations from the western Yugoslavian outskirts towards Italy. The personal perspective enables a more thorough and detailed insight into the massive outflow of Slovenian population in the initial postwar years and intends to upgrade the politicized and ideologically conditioned understanding of the phenomenon. In order to better understand the issue, the text encompasses the time before and after the act of Stanka's flight itself, trying to illuminate all the crucial events in her life that eventually led to or were conditioned by her emigration. Her story is embedded in the family environment and is also contextualized with historical development. Oral history interviews, informative conversations, analysis of various ego-documents and biographical notes are therefore supported with relevant literature from the field of historical and migration studies in order to reconstruct Stanka's migratory experience.

Although the distinction between migrant and tourist is artificial — linked to statistical, juridical and economic definitions used to delimit the travel and hospitality sector — these words are associated with conflicting and often opposite images, stereotypes and emotions. On the one hand, migrants or refugees are usually perceived as dead weights, carriers of anguish and danger, to be rejected as a social problem. On the other hand, tourists or travelers are depicted as opportunities, special guests to be accommodated in comfortable places, as bearers of a positive economic value. Aiming at going beyond a mere critique of kinetophobia (fear of movement) and of the different forms it takes, the essay invites to question the "residentialist" foundations of the nation-state and to develop a new understanding of the interaction between mobility and belonging. By exploring the symbolic meanings and political implications that the migrant / tourist categories carry with them, the essay maps the emergence of a world where freedom of movement is the main factor of social stratification. Finally, the essay introduces the reflections presented in this volume, highlighting how the different and complementary disciplinary perspectives of the essays collected not only call into question the conceptual categories that define the practice of traveling and the experience of diversity, but they contribute to developing new perspectives on mobility understood as a total social phenomenon. ; Sebbene la distinzione tra migrante e turista sia artificiale – frutto di definizioni statistiche, normative e fiscali utilizzate per delimitare il settore del viaggio e dell'ospitalità – a queste parole si associano immagini, stereotipi ed emozioni contrastanti, spesso opposte. Da un lato, i migranti o rifugiati percepiti come pesi morti, portatori di angoscia e pericolosità, da respingere in quanto problema sociale. Dall'altro, i turisti o viaggiatori descritti come ospiti da accogliere in luoghi confortevoli, quali portatori di un plusvalore immediato, in primis economico. Con l'intento di andare oltre una mera critica della cinetofobia (paura del movimento) e delle diverse forme che questa assume, il saggio invita a rimettere in discussione le fondamenta "residenzialiste" dello Stato-nazione e a sviluppare una nuova comprensione dell'interazione tra mobilità e appartenenza. Esplorando i significati simbolici e le implicazioni politiche che le categorie migranti/turisti si portano dietro, il saggio mappa l'emergere di un mondo dove la libertà di movimento è il principale fattore di stratificazione sociale. Infine, il saggio introduce le riflessioni presentate in questo volume, evidenziando come le prospettive disciplinari diverse e complementari dei saggi qui raccolti non solo rimettono in discussione le categorie di pensiero con le quali si definisce la pratica del viaggio e l'esperienza della diversità, ma contribuiscono a sviluppare nuove prospettive sulla mobilità intesa come un fenomeno sociale totale.

This essay investigates the indigenous identity experience in contemporary Canada in the light of the renewed tourist interest that, in recent years, has led many indigenous people to join the promotion circuit of what, in the Western imagination, remains the land of great lakes, immense plains and "postcard" nature. Founded in 2015, the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada aims to improve the socio-economic condition of indigenous peoples, and to promote local representation and dialogue between the communities, and the provincial and federal governments. Regaining possession of a tourism industry defined as "authentically indigenous" also means transforming culture, identity and self-representation into an agency supporting the socio-economic rebirth of poor areas and communities, kept for a long time at the margins of the national industrial and cultural system created, in its backbone, by colonial governments. For the purposes of these initial reflections, it becomes conceptually stimulating to re-read the interest in indigenous tourism also in the light of a complex idea of "migration". In fact, it becomes enlightening to rethink the idea of "migration" considering the history of indigenous peoples to grasp a more complex idea of "cultural mobility". Today, this idea is at the center of new identity processes that affect the Canadian nation as a whole and, even more so, the communities of the origins. New artistic and literary Indigenous productions of the twenty-first century are, in fact, turning cultural resilience into new imaginative visions for a different and more inclusive future. ; Questo saggio indaga l'esperienza identitaria indigena nel Canada contemporaneo alla luce del rinnovato interesse turistico che, negli ultimi anni, ha portato molti indigeni ad inserirsi nel circuito di promozione di quella che, nell'immaginario occidentale, resta la terra dei grandi laghi, delle immense pianure e della natura "da cartolina". Fondata nel 2015, la Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada vuole migliorare la condizione socioeconomica delle popolazioni indigene, fare rete per promuovere la rappresentatività locale e il dialogo tra le diverse comunità, i governi provinciali e quello federale. Riappropriarsi di una industria del turismo definita come "autenticamente indigena" vuol anche dire trasformare l'autorappresentazione identitaria in una agenzia utile alla rinascita socioeconomica di aree e comunità povere, tenute per lungo tempo ai margini del sistema industriale e culturale creato, nella sua ossatura, dai governi coloniali. Ai fini di queste prime riflessioni, diventa concettualmente stimolante rileggere l'interesse per il turismo indigeno anche alla luce di una idea complessa di "migrazione", ovvero di un ripensamento dell'idea di "migrazione" che tenga conto della Storia delle popolazioni indigene per cogliere un'idea complessa di "mobilità culturale"; un'idea che è oggi al centro di percorsi di riappropriazioni identitarie postcoloniali che toccano la nazione canadese nel suo complesso e, in modo particolare, le comunità delle origini. Le nuove produzioni artistiche e letterarie indigene del ventunesimo secolo traducono, infatti, la resilienza culturale in discorsi tesi a immaginare un futuro diverso e inclusivo.

Pratiche religiose, cultura migratoria e immaginario migratorionell'Africa sub-sahariana: i contesti senegalese e guineanoLa combinazione di diversi fattori (storici, religiosi, politici, economici) fa sì che sempre più africani subsahariani considerino la migrazione un'alternativa alle molte difficoltà locali. In alcune comunità sub-sahariane, forgia una vera cultura della mobilità, predisponendole o supportandole nella formazione e nell'esecuzione del progetto dimigrazione. Tra questi fattori, l'articolo pone l'accento sulle pratiche religiose, nel loro ruolo di ispirazione, predisposizione e sostegno alla migrazione dei sub-sahariani, in particolare senegalesi e guineani. Si tratta di pratiche, credenze e altri rituali religiosi che interagiscono con il progetto e l'atto migratorio come un vero "ammortizzatore" che riduce l'intensità e l'impatto di molteplici "shock" legati alla migrazione. Il ricorso dei migranti e delle loro famiglie a pratiche religiose rafforza e modula il progetto migratorio al fine di anticipare e / o meglio accogliere le difficoltà derivante dall'incontro tra l'immaginario e la realtà migratoria.Religious practices, migratory culture and migratory imageryin sub-Saharan Africa: the Senegalese and Guinean contextsThe combination of different factors (historical, religious, political, economic) means that more and more Sub-Saharan Africans consider migration as an alternative to the many local difficulties. In some Sub-Saharan communities the combination forge a true culture of mobility, predisposing and supporting the formation and the execution of the migration project. Among these factors, the article focuses on religious practices in their role of inspiration, predisposition and support to the migration of Sub-Saharans, especially Senegalese and Guineans. These practices, beliefs and other religious rituals, interact with the project and with the migratory act as a real "shock absorber" that reduces the intensity and the impact of multiple "shocks" related to migration.The use of religious practices strengthens and modulates the migration project to anticipate and / or to better accommodate the shock due to the intersection between the imaginary and the migratory reality.
