The study of intraregional migration in Russia is complicated by short time series and a limited set of published data, particularly at the municipal level. The publicly available data allow only general evaluation of migration parameters, e. g. the migration turnover, the net migration features, etc. More complete data, for example, on movements between municipalities, could be obtained from the regional statistical offices on special requests. Based on such data on intraregional migration in the Altai Krai in 2014-2018, the hinterlands of the urban okrugs were identified, and some characteristics of those hinterlands were revealed. The migration turnover with ten urban okrugs of the region was calculated for urban and rural settlements of the Altai Krai. A settlement was attributed to the hinterland of a particular urban okrug basing on the maxi-mum migration turnover with it. The hinterlands were delimited in two ways, i.e. with and without considering the capital city of Barnaul. By this we evaluated how the exclusion of migration to/from the regional capital, which dominates the system of intraregional migration links, affects the migration preferences of settlement residents. The results of the study showed that the Barnaul hinterland includes more than half of the Krai's territory with approximately 60% of the region's population. The hinterlands of other cities are proportional to the population of their centers and are also influenced by their location in relation to the regional capital. Without considering Barnaul, several cities, such as Rubtsovsk and Slavgorod considerably expand their influence, while the hinterland of Biysk, the second-largest city in the region, changed only slightly. Despite the importance of the size of cities, the mutual disposition of subcenters and their location in relation to the regional center play a critical role in the intraregional migration. The study gives an idea of principal directions of inter-settlement migration in the Altai Krai.

The paper considers four kinematic migration algorithms (procedures for converting the arrival times of reflected waves to the Earth's surface into the depths of the reflecting boundaries) using medium-velocity and reservoir velocity models of layered media: a standard algorithm for converting times to depths through aver- age velocities; a modified medium-velocity algorithm that takes into account the slope of seismic boundaries; an algorithm for layer-by-layer recalculation of t0 lines to depths; a variational kinematic migration algorithm based on the theory of ray tracing by integrating a system of differential equations with specified initial conditions by the Runge–Kutta method. To study the possibilities and limitations of each of the algorithms, calculations were carried out on a number of theoretical models of layered media that approximate real geological situations. Based on the results of numerical experiments using the four kinematic migration algorithms considered in the paper, conclusions were drawn about the effectiveness of using each of the algorithms to restore geological boundaries in media models of varying complexity.
The article is devoted to an event in ancient history, which has been studied and commented on many times, when the Germanic tribes of the Cimbri and Teutons carried out a long-term movement in the space of Central Europe, which can be called the "first migration of peoples". They were defeated by Rome, but this event caused a powerful movement of other tribes, especially towards Eastern Europe, where many new archaeological cultures were formed. Among them, a special place is occupied by the Zarubinets culture and its place in the history of Eastern Europe.
Ecologo-geographical differentiation and dynamics of spring migration of water and semiaquatic birds of the Putorana Plateau are analyzed. Eight points were surveyed in the northern, southern, western and eastern parts of the region on the total area of 250 000 km², applying the method of route census. The water and semiaquatic avifauna of the Putorana Plateau during the spring migration period includes 68 species. The birds fly in north, east and west directions. They make stops at the river deltas that thaw out early. Bird population density at stops is from 15 to 227, on average (n = 8) 94 ind./1 km of coastline. The population of birds on lakes is always much smaller than on the adjacent river sections. The entire spring migration of water and semiaquatic birds on the Putorana Plateau takes place from May 19 to June 27 and lasts on average (n = 10) 23 days. The main passage runs from May 25 to June 17 and lasts on average (n = 8) 7 days. Spring migration is most intense in the west of the Putorana Plateau, where at least 20 000-30 000 individuals of water and semiaquatic birds fly through the surveyed points. There are 19 species among the dominants of water and semiaquatic habitats, including Eurasian Wigeon, Common Teal, Greytaild Tattler, Northern Pintail and Little Stint.
We consider a description and analysis of linguistic, ethnic, cultural heterogeneity issues, with an emphasis on the economic and social consequences of the resulting conflicts. We focus on language, ethnic and cultural differences influence on the processes of emergence, or increase of the potential conflicts in the context of social and economic dimensions. We also take into account income inequality and migration, as the most important factors influencing the dynamics of these processes. The approaches to the theoretical description and empirical evaluation are based on basic economic criteria, which allows to achieve a more complete and accurate description of the studied complex social processes. We pay special attention to the case studies reflecting the peculiarities of the studied heterogeneity issues.

Introduction: The article considers motivation for migration of Russian-speaking groups who came to Germany from the territory of the former USSR countries. The article focuses on the analysis of ethnically privileged migrant groups - late migrants (Russian Germans) and quota refugees (Russian Jews) who came to Germany in the period of the late 1980s to mid-2000s. The aim of the research is to reveal the main reasons for and motives of the Russian-speaking group migration from the post-Soviet republics. The authors focus on the migration motives which have not been fully described, shown or analyzed in foreign research works, thus, enabling the readers to broaden their view on the migration of Russian-speaking groups to Germany. Methods: The research is based on qualitative methodology using the method of thematically-centered interview. The selection was done by the "snowball" method. Analysis: The authors carried out a comparative analysis of several research works with the results of the project conducted with Russian-speaking groups in Munich in 2005-2006 and 2011. The analyzed basis makes 43 interviews. The paper discusses the most questionable aspects regarding the ascertainment of the motivations of Russian Germans and Russian Jews for moving to Germany; it also compares the groups and reveals common features of migratory background characteristics to both of them. The paper gives special attention to ethnic motivations of migration which turn to be both pushing and pulling factors for both Russian-speaking groups. It also compares interpretations of significance of ethnicity and ethnic discrimination being the reasons for migration of Russian Germans and Russian Jews in the research works analyzed here. Results: The hypothesis is that after the USSR split ethnic discrimination of both groups may be considered on the basis of "wrong" ethnicity in the countries of exodus. The conclusion is drawn that discrimination on ethnic basis cannot be the main reason for migration of Russian Germans and Russian Jews to Germany. It is more probable that in the case of Russian-speaking groups we deal with "drifting" ethnicity which may be suggested to or imposed on individuals. The data presented in the article may be of great interest for improving the state policy of this country towards compatriots from abroad and working out migratory regulations.
The article is devoted to British child migration in the 19th – first half of the 20th century. The reasons, conditions for moving, the importance attached to the resettlement of young people on the periphery of the British world are investigated. It is shown that philanthropic, socio-economic factors as well as imperialist, national, and racial reasons influenced migration policy. The emphasis changed over time. Until the middle of the 19th century the resettlement was caused by a desire to help poor children or to deport unnecessary and dangerous residents from the metropolis; in the second half of the 19th century migrants began to be seen as an instrument of imperial policy. Migration was consistent with the doctrine of social imperialism. It made it possible to solve the social problems of the metropolis, relieved tension in society that were associated with mass unemployment, and opened up new opportunities for the economic growth of the entire Empire. The youth made up for the shortage of labor resources in the dominions, cultivated undeveloped lands, spread European values and technologies, consolidated disparate residents into single Great Britain with its global British identity. The resettlement of minors from dirty and cramped cities to rural areas was believed to offer an opportunity to preserve a healthy generation and the strength of the Anglo-Saxon nation. In the countries of the southern hemisphere, migrants from Albion were seen as defenders of the white race and European civilization. That is why in the late 19th century, the requirements for resettlement were tightened, allowing only the "proper" type of migrant according to racial, social, physiological, and mental criteria. Many migrants achieved success in their new homeland, but some of them faced cruelty, exploitation, and social ostracism. It is concluded that the idea of Great Britain as a global community turned out to be untenable after the Second World War. Imperial goals increasingly contradicted national objectives, which led to the cessation of child migration. Deprived of their homeland and ties with their relatives, unable to adapt to new places, child migrants who turned into adults become an embarrassing reminder of the "dark page" of the imperial past.

The issues of studying migration processes are particularly relevant at the present time. In this paper, the author tried to explore migration processes and analyze the impact of migration on the socio-demographic situation in the republic. The purpose of this study is to identify migration processes in North Ossetia-Alania from 2018 to early 2022. The author examined the impact of migration on socio-economic processes, statistical data on population migration, population statistics in North Ossetia-Alania and mortality and birth rate statistics, and many others. In this study, the following research methods are used: theoretical analysis of statistics for the Russian Federation and North Ossetia-Alania, the study of recent studies and publications on this topic. Currently, a big problem is the outflow of migrants in North Ossetia-Alania to other cities of the Russian Federation and the country. Young people tend to move to large cities in Russia or go to foreign countries where there are more opportunities for professional development and career growth. In 2022, the unemployment rate in North Ossetia-Alania decreased and 2 700 people were employed. Reduce the unemployment rate in the republic in 2022. succeeded thanks to the program "Promoting employment of the population" and national projects. There is also a difficult demographic situation in the republic. In recent years, the death rate has exceeded the birth rate. Migration processes do not contribute to population growth, since much more people leave the republic than come. In conclusion, the author proposed some measures to solve this problem.
The paper considers three algorithms of kinematic migration (transformation of time fields of normal rays into reflecting boundaries) based on the variational theory of ray tracing developed by Professor of the Department of Seismometry and Geoacoustics of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University T.I. Oblogina. The results of numerical experiments on theoretical models of layered media of varying complexity have revealed significant drawbacks of the "classical" variational algorithm for solving the inverse kinematic problem. Two mod- ifications of the "classical" variational algorithm are proposed in terms of calculating the starting angle of the rays' exit from the Earth's surface, leaving unchanged the principle of taking into account the curvature of seismic rays and refraction at intermediate boundaries: a variational algorithm using "image rays" and a kinematic migration algorithm for layered media with variable reservoir velocities, taking into account the slope of each boundary. The results obtained on theoretical models of complex environments demonstrated high efficiency of solving the inverse kinematic problem by a modified kinematic migration algorithm that takes into account the slope of each boundary.
The article examines the ethnic aspects of population migration in rural Bashkiria. The study area, i. e. Fedorovsky district of the Republic of Bashkortostan, is distinguished by a high ethno-cultural diversity of the population with six large ethnic groups living there, namely Tatars, Russians, Bashkirs, Chuvashes, Mordvins and Ukrainians. The methods of research are the analysis of municipal statistics and household books of rural settlements, the study of "genealogical trees", the questioning of people and the autobiographical interviews. Different data sources were used to analyze the dynamics of rural migration at the level of rural settlements of the Fedorovsky district in the pre-revolutionary, Soviet and post-Soviet periods. It was found that the migration behavior of population depends on the ethnic structure of rural settlements and their geographical location. The ethnic groups represented in the Fedorovsky district are at different stages of U. Zelinsky migration model, which is reflected in the current migration situation in rural settlements. Collected statistical data allowed selective presentation of the post-Soviet structure of the intraregional geography of rural migration of the population of some settlements in the context of the cities close to the Fedorovsky district, i. e. Ufa, Sterlitamak, Salavat, Ishimbai and Meleuz. The final part of the article interprets the results of questioning to describe the mechanism of making a decision on educational migration for residents of three rural settlements with different ethnic structure of population, i. e. Mordovian Kuzminovka, Tatar Deniskino and Chuvash Kiryushino.
The paper studies migration intentions of inhabitants of Omsk oblast under strengthening outflow of the indigenous population including the youth. The authors look at the inhabitants' migration from the perspective of the regional labour market and employment. The article presents the results of the assessment of migration intentions of Omsk oblast's population in terms of the varying degree of their formation, lists the reasons behind the change of residence, reveals chances of employment in the native region, and examines the interrelation between the migration intentions and the situation in the labour market. As a result, the authors come to the conclusion that the region's residents, particularly, its young members, have formed intentions to leave the region, which are related to the subjective negative perception of the state of the labour market, when the region as a place of residence is associated with low wages, limited opportunities to find attractive jobs, build a career, etc.
This preprint examines the migration of the population of the regions of the South of Russia in the second half of the 20th - early 21st centuries. Migration processes are considered in two "dimensions". On the one hand, their development is investigated in a historical perspective, in connection with which migration in the Soviet and post-Soviet times is considered separately. On the other hand, migration flows are opposed to each other in terms of "distance", for which intraregional and interregional migrations are separately characterized.
