Coesione sociale e modelli di welfare in Europa
In: Quaderni di sociologia: QdS, Band 45, Heft 87, S. 89-110
ISSN: 2421-5848
We use EVS-WVS data to test our hypothesis about the contextual dependence of cohesion in Europe. In particular, we apply Bayesian Networks to describe the emergence of Social Cohesion in different welfare models. The creation of different networks for each Welfare model aims at demonstrating that a different way to manage Social Policies creates different paths of Social Cohesion. Political participations, civil engagement and positive social ties are fundamental dimensions, producing Social Capital, while social cohesion requires further dimensions too, as the presence of structural dynamics (equity, granted public services) and the increase in satisfaction. The mechanisms detected are similar enough from different areas, with interesting specificities for Mediterranean, Social-Democratic and Post-communist models.
; The purpose of the present research project is to analyze the importance of the networks organization model to answer to the challenge of the complexity of this historical, political, sociological and economic period; in particular, as far as the health networks are concerned, to respond to the exigency of putting the person in the centre of the care pathway and obtain a better integration of cares. Although the advantages of the networks model are well described in the literature , still there are only few studies in the area of evaluation. The case of study has treated the cancer network in the Romagna area as well as it was perceived from key informants, stakeholders (doctors, nurses, administrative workers) and persons with tumour experience. The analysis of the key informants brought out strongly the fact that the network was born to give quality answers to the patients needs, while from the analysis of the stakeholders emerged how the human relationships are important and the significance of having shared values to achieve the goals of care efficacy and quality. Instead, as far as the perception of the persons with tumour experience is concerned, the importance of the appropriateness of the care trajectory emerged as well as to have a continuity in the pathway , already difficult by itself, in addition to the importance of the services humanization and the correct doctor-to-patient communication.

Inequality and Macroeconomic Dynamics: An Agent-Based Model
After reviewing the main empirical and theoretical findings about the evolution of inequality and its impact on macroeconomic dynamics, this thesis expands the analysis performed with an agent-based model by Napoletano, Roventini and Gaffard (2016). In the model, which is characterized by heterogeneous households with credit constraints, an inequality shock is introduced. This generates a fall in aggregate demand and income. Scenarios with different degrees of inequality are compared, and what emerges is that higher inequality is associated with more severe recessions. Moreover, a redistributive fiscal policy, in the form of a subsidy, is introduced after the crisis. This policy significantly dampens the fall in aggregate output implied by the inequality shock and is more effective than direct government expenditure in stimulating the economy.

The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of 'Dialogues' as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with 'others', which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, "dialogue" as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title 'translated' into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

Distributional Models of Emotions for Sentiment Analysis in Social Media
With the proliferation of social media, textual emotion analysis is becoming increasingly important. Sentiment Analysis and Emotion Detection can be useful to track several applications. They can be used, for instance, in Customer Relationship Management to track sentiments towards companies and their services, or in Government Intelligence, to collect people's emotions and points of views about government decisions. It is clear that tracking reputation and opinions without appropriate text mining tools is simple infeasible. Most of these tools are based on sentiment and emotion lexicons, in which lemmas are associated with the sentiment and/or emotions they evoke. However, almost all languages but English lack high-coverage inventories of this sort. This thesis presents several sentiment analysis tasks to illustrate challenges and opportunities in this research area. We review different state-of-the-art methods for sentiment analysis and emotion detection and describe how we modeled a framework to build emotive resources, that can be effectively exploited for text affective computing. One of the main outcome of the work presented in this thesis is ItEM, which is a high-coverage Italian EMotive lexicon created by exploiting distributional methods. It has been built with a three stage process including the collection of a set of highly emotive words, their distributional expansion and the validation of the system. Since corpus-based methods reflect the type of the corpus from which they are build, in order to create a reliable lexicon we collected a new Italian corpus, namely FB-NEWS15. This collection has been created by crawling the Facebook pages of the most important Italian newspapers, which typically include a small number of posts written by the journalists and a very high number of comments inspired by long discussions among readers about such news. Finally, we describe some experiments on the sentiment polarity classification of tweets. We started from a system based on supervised learning that was originally developed for the Evalita 2014 SENTIment POLarity Classification task (Basile et al., 2014) and subsequently explored the possibility to enrich this system by exploiting lexical emotive features derived from social media texts.
