The present article discusses the empty attempt to objectify validity claims of objective science through a sociological analysis of power. Discussed are: the 'strategic' subjection of subjects under biopower, as it is effective in modern society, is a theoretical proposal for explanation that can't be defended with cognitive validity claims such as secured knowledge. A subsequent section discusses the social construction of identity and the connection with self-determination in biopolitical argumentation. Section 6 treats the modern biotechnology and the assumption that it puts humanity at risk. Warnings against this threat neglect cognitive differentiation of modern Lebenswelt and refers to normative, moral stands that lack overall social consent. Generally speaking, criticism derived from biopower against modern biotechnology is based on the same risk and abuse scenarios that are lively discussed in the political field of biopolitics. It requires sociological clarification and a thorough examination of such scenarios. Adapted from the source document.
Academies are weaved into the moral & spiritual fabric of a country. However, may the democratic state expect anything from such institutions that costs its people a lot of money? Such as advice, critique, encouragement, or special knowledge? Academies live their own lives & rarely speak to the outside. When they do, it must be an event. E. Sanchez
The present paper deals with two production models: 'the industrial districts of Third Italy' & the 'branch cluster of Baden Wuerttemberg.' Both have been well discussed within the scientific community. The elementary knowledge resulting from the comparison of both models is as follows: the morally communized 'distretti industriali' are much more susceptible to the economical concepts of neoliberalism than the model of socially & institutionally embedded branch clusters. Because of its dependency on fragile moral inventories the social substance of the industrial districts erodes more & more whereas the social substance of the branch cluster remains stable. 25 References. The risks of nuclear, biological and nano-technologies, the development of digital infrastructures and the financial and sovereign debt crisis are examples for problems whose processing challenges the problem solving capacity of representative democracies. This applies both to the complexity of these problems in general, as well as for their moral implications in particular. Of course, the political science for these conflicts provide no simple solution pattern. Yet can the university political science contribution is twofold solution to these problems; on the one hand by generating a contextual knowledge that helps to make political decisions, and, on the other hand, by practical teaching, which so prepares students of political science for their careers in parties, combined, parliaments, business, or public administration that they know as decision situations can be dealt with complex (ethical).
(ICI2)
Recent years have seen a tendency to Europeanize the Holocaust. Holocaust commemoration has spread all over Europe & many countries have been confronted with their direct & indirect involvement with the Holocaust. So it may figure as a kind of (negative) founding myth for the new Europe. On the basis of survey data, the article develops some empirically based arguments about what this could mean for the attitudes toward Jews? The answer is twofold: It can be shown that the knowledge about the Holocaust & the willingness to remember it are fairly widespread in the European populations & that the attitude toward the Jews & the Holocaust is seen a kind of litmus-test for a democratic & open political culture. So in the long run the Europeanization of the Holocaust is expected to lead to a decrease in antisemitic attitudes. On the other hand, in all countries a part of the population, especially those with nationalistic leanings, rejects the material & moral consequences of the Holocaust & suspected the Jews to exploit it for their own purposes. So one can expect that, as in Germany & Austria, a "secondary antisemitism" will develop in other European countries too, based on the rejection of guilt & responsibility, which is seen as being forced upon the country by the Jews. 3 Tables, 1 Figure, 37 References. (Autorenreferat)
