Objective. Local government officials exhibit a variety of responses to morality issues involving "decency" (i.e., pornography, prostitution, sexually explicit businesses). The purpose of this research is to account for these differences.Methods. This research analyzes a subset of data from a larger study of morality policy making at the local level, that is, all cases of decision making on decency issues (e.g., pornography, prostitution, regulation of sexually explicit businesses, etc.) that occurred in the period 1994–2000 in 10 of the 52 largest cities in the United States.Results. In mayoral settings, decision making on decency cases is likely to evoke pro‐decency action from officials when a high level of issue salience is combined with high levels of church adherence, low levels of women's political empowerment, low levels of fundamentalist religious attachment, and higher levels of per capita income. Officials in city manager settings act more favorably toward decency activists if (1) higher levels of salience combine with a lower prevalence of fundamentalist religious adherents and higher levels of per capita income or (2) there is an interaction of salience and low levels of female political empowerment and high unemployment.Conclusions. Although exploratory in nature, the results confirm conventional expectations concerning the importance of salience and the prevalence of church affiliation; the results are counterintuitive with respect to the prevalence of fundamentalist forces and the extent of female political empowerment.

The Memorial of the Morisco Francisco Núñez Muley fits in the religious culture of the Spain of the Golden Age period. In this Memorial we can find the particular reactions of a period in which the secularization process, which has already taken shape in the European countries dominated by Protestantism, slowly affects Catholicism. In Spain there is a wide reaction against it, mainly by Philip the Second, contrary to the idea of the Moriscos headed by Núñez Muley, who states that the customs and traditions of his people, forbidden by the King, are only cultural problems, not at all opposed to Catholicism. ; El Memorial del morisco Francisco Núñez Muley se encuadra en la cultura religiosa de laEspaña del Siglo de Oro. En él se encuentran las reacciones propias de una época, en la que elproceso de secularización, ya es una realidad en los países europeos dominados por el protestantismo,que incide con lentitud en el catolicismo. En España, generalmente, se resisten a aceptarlo, sobretodo Felipe I1, en contra de lo que están los moriscos encabezados por Núñez Muley, quien manifiestaque las costumbres y tradiciones de su pueblo, prohibidas por el Monarca, son problemas culturalesque en nada se oponen al catolicismo.

Статья посвящена особенностям проявления морали и нравственного сознания в условиях демократизации российского общества. Моральная дезориентация породила господство утилитарных политических интересов, подрывая упорядоченность российского социума. Идеи рынка и демократии не могут автоматически обновить моральные установки участников политического процесса в условиях постмодернистской политики. Возникло противоречие между практикой политической власти и демократическими идеалами. В результате происходит усиление аномии и морального релятивизма, что снижает уровень моральных требований в отношении власти. ; The article deals with the peculiarities of manifestation of morality and moral identity in the context of democratization of the Russian society. Moral disorientation gave rise to the dominance of utilitarian political interests, undermining the orderliness of the Russian society. The ideas of market and democracy can't automatically update the moral attitudes of political actors in the postmodern politics. There is a contradiction between the practice of political power and the democratic ideals. It has resulted in the strengthening of anomie and moral relativism, reducing the level of moral requirements put upon the power.

The article is dedicated to contemporary political situation in Lithuania, emphasizing sociopsychological content of the opposition between different political competitors in modern Lithuania. The article emphasizes the role of intelligentsia as the basic group of politicians, its' forms, intentions of their political activity, and, especially, the motive of their "self-importance". This competetive activity has moral "cover", opponents reveal each other, using the fact, that under the cover of popular slogans they satisfy their own needs and values.
