This paper presents an experience with teachers who participated in an extension course conducted during 2008 entitled: "The movies in teaching history and culture african-Brazilian and African basic education." Guidelines and National Education establish compliance with the Law 10.639/2003 education for ethnic-racial. To discuss and contribute to the education of blackness in Brazil, this paper discusses the potential of film narratives in the classroom for the teaching of history and Afro-Brazilian and African culture. We conclude that the use of films as a source of study or as a pedagogical tool requires a critical pedagogical action decoding, interpretation and deconstruction of film narratives to understand the record of human actions depicted on the screen.
Angola Cinema' honors the fantastic, unique and unknown architecture of movie theaters in Angola, built in the decades before the end of Portuguese colonial rule in 1975. Initially designed as traditional closed spaces, later in the 1960s open air cinemas with terrace bars became the order of the day, so much better adapted as they were to the tropical climate. The arrival of these cinemas brought elegance to the business of going to the movies.0But it is not only this exceptional architecture which impresses us and mirrors the experimental spirit of its ambitious and visionary builders. Visiting the cinema was a communal act—it was a place where young met old, where people fell in love and where liberation from colonialism was a feasible option.0Examining the architectural history of these buildings, this book is also a document of urban organization in the 20th century, as well as the changing mentalities of a society living with the possibility of its foreseen independence. What has changed since then, and what is the future of these urban cathedrals? 'Angola Cinema' poses such questions in a book that both preserves these architectonic treasures and reflects on their cultural, social and affective heritage

Spanish Civil War films have traditionally been made according to the schemes of the political, social and historical drama. Over the last ten years, in addition to that dramatic tradition a new generation of movies has distanced itself from historical rigor, social and political reflections and the revision of the memory. This article looks at a group of contemporary fantasy and horror Spanish films: El mar / The Sea (2000) and Pa negre / Black Bread (2010), by Agustí Villaronga; El espinazo del Diablo I The Devil's Backbone (2001) and El laberinto del fauno / Pan's Labyrinth (2006), by the Mexican Guillermo del Toro; just as Alex de la Iglesia's Balada triste de trompeta / The Last Circus (2010). All of them have a common topic: a childhood traumatized by the disasters of war. This essay explores how the fiction mechanisms allow such a stylized film genre treatment to deal with these controversial topics in terms of emotions and ideology. One of the most useful instruments utilized in this material is the poetic nature of the "uncanny", which whose versatility is analyzed in the mentioned movies.
With this paper, we aim to discuss the movie American Beauty under the light of the Hegelian philosophy or, more specifically, of the so-called dialectic of the master and the slave. To accomplish this task, we divided our text into three moments: 1. We analyze some aspects relating to how the relationship among one's consciousnesses of oneself is established in life, creating dominance (lord) and subordination (slave) relations in intersubjectivity relations. The contrast between the two elements determines that, in order to achieve recognition, a consciousness must subdue the other according to its will, that is, one will is recognized (that of the master) whereas the other is the recognizer (that of the slave). 2. We present central elements of the film as the background for our analysis. 3. We critically discuss the film based on the conceptual elements presented in item one, demonstrating to what extent the film can be understood as an attempt by the protagonist to overcome the total indifferentiation, to establish a life and death struggle, and finally to be recognized in his desires.

From the documentary Paulinho da Viola: meu tempo é hoje (Paulinho da Viola: my time is today), I aim at problematizing the hegemonic politics at the present time which has oriented the subjectivity in the cultural capitalism context. In the documentary, what draws my attention is the way the composer treats time and puts in jeopardy the predominant forms of experimenting it - captured in a longing past and badly lived or in a cynical present, frozen and indifferent to the body's restlessness. The movie leads me to glimpse the resistance lines and the subjectivity invention; resistance to the hegemonic politics of the present time and invention of new temporalities, vital potencies in extreme acceleration contexts and subtle life controls.
; This article analyses the possible discursive developments around the female body in movies, using Chocolat (Claire Denis, 1998) and Black Venus (Abdellatif Kechiche, 2010); bearing in mind this body as an object of desire, a space of resistance, a cultural and ethnical frontier, or even as a vestige of history and memory. Through theoretical, esthetical and political articulations about these images, and through the analysis of these films, we will attempt to understand how intercultural cinema – which is able to create new images from the memory of the senses, since it possesses tactile and contagious qualities, with which the spectator is confronted as if he was connecting with another body (Marks, 2000) – becomes an instrument of representation of a possible cultural history and memory, precisely by means of the role that bodies – removed from their original environment – play in the construction of this cultural history and memory.

Over more than one hundred years of history, the cinematic art path has been followed by numerous technological advances that have been enabled filmmakers a more and more endless number of resources that aim to enhance the film production. The emergence of digital technology to the cinema represents a deeply significant landmark for the Cinema History. The digital era democratized the act of making cinema by making it more accessible and imminent, however, not being a guarantee of qualitative improvement by itself. Cinema is an expression and Technology is a science. Conscious of this dichotomy, at different points, for more than a century, cinema has been able to successfully overcome technical (and economic) needs without losing, nevertheless, its significant and aesthetic capacity. But just as the act of making cinema has been developing, the act of envisioning it has also been undergoing significant changes. By analyzing several data on consumption habits, we will determine in this written essay that the classic dark movie theaters have been losing its role in recent years. The recent platforms of video streaming are currently stronger, fairly attractive and clearly growing in the ability to seduce an audience more and more fan of the new technologies and that does not seem to determine an added value in the traditional movie theaters for example, as enhancing favorable atmospheres to the cinema´s expressive and aesthetic roles.
