VOLUMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PACIFIC WATERS IN THE ARCTIC OCEAN
In: Lomonosov Geography Journal, Band 79, Heft № 1 (2024), S. 141-148
Volumetric characteristics and renewal time of the Pacific waters (PW) in the Arctic Ocean were calculated based on the data of oceanographic expeditions during the 2007-2008 International Polar Year (617 stations). Isopycnal surfaces of their upper and lower boundaries (25,5 and 27,5 kg/m3, respectively), the thickness between these limits and the equivalent thickness (i. e. the specific thickness of untransformed "pure" water mass) have been determined, as well as the boundaries where the highest concentrations of silicates in the selected density interval disappears. The Pacific waters extend to the north up to the North Pole region (thickness up to 40-50 m), in the west they can be traced up to the northern part of the Laptev Sea (thickness 20-30 m), in the east they are preserved in a minimally transformed form (thickness of more than 100 m) up to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. The characteristic depths are between 50 and 150 m. The thickest PW exceeding 150 m were found within the Beaufort Gyre. The total volume of "pure" (untransformed) Pacific waters in the Arctic Ocean was estimated at (197 ± 19) · 103 km3 or about 1,1% of the overall volume of the Arctic Ocean. If their mixing with the surrounding waters between selected isopycnic surfaces is taken into account, the volume of Pacific waters is (313 ± 16) · 103 km3, or about 1,7% of the volume of the Arctic Ocean. Taking into account the total inflow of the PW through the Bering Strait, their renewal time in the Arctic basin is estimated to be about 5-6 years.

Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Position of Thailand ; Транстихоокеанское партнерство и позиция Таиланда
The article is devoted to regional economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, namely, to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in Asia. An overview of the role and position of Thailand in the regional organizations, especially in the Trans-Pacific partnership is presented. Particular emphasis is placed on the role and the history of Thailand's decision to join the TPP and the RCEP. It is established that effective solutions to Thailand's integration into regional cooperation is possible if external and internal factors effecting economy and politics of Thailand are considered.Key words: The Asia-Pacific region, TTP, Southeast Asia, ASEAN, RCEP, regional cooperation, Thailand, China, Japan, USA.

"Global Britain": a course for the Asia-Pacific Region with an anti-Chinese bias
The article examines the foreign policy and economic strategy of the United Kingdom in the Asian direction after the country's exit from the European Union. As part of its vision to transform the United Kingdom into a global power, London is committed to fully developing relations with the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific region. The UK intends to make up for the economic damage from the loss of markets in Europe by developing relations with the countries of the region, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The British government particularly hopes to enter the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Восточная Азия: факты и аналитика 2021, 3 East Asia: Facts and Analytics 2021, 3 7 (CPTPP). One of the important directions of the new strategy is the development of trade and economic relations with the ASEAN member states. The strengthening of the UK's relations with Japan allows us to talk about the creation of a quasi-alliance between Tokyo and London. However, the UK's economic and security aspirations in the Asia-Pacific region are often motivated by the need to contain the increasing ambitions of China.
