The Mandarin Chinese version of Costa and McCrae's (1992) Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) was used to survey 473 people from 9 occupational groups in mainland China. Internal consistency was adequate for almost all dimensions. Correlations with occupation and gender sustained
the validity of NEO-PI-R. The differences of mean value between Chinese participants and an American sample (Costa & McCrae, 1992) were significant in 4 dimensions. However, further validation of the 5-factor model for the assessment of personality in China is needed.
