The paper discusses the issues involved in three different varieties of stabilization plans: gradualism, dollarization, and social pacts. It is argued that the efficiency of each alternative depends upon special conditions pertaining, by and large, to the dynamics of price fixing in the Brazilian economy. Shock alternatives, namely, price freezes or pre-fixing schemes, are said to have their usefulness attached to "backwards looking" price fixing behavior. Gradual strategies, on the other hand, especially when unambiguously orthodox, are said to be more efficient when "forward looking" behavior is adopted by price setters

The last elections in Brazil have shown a growing participation of evangelicals in the political scenario and a majority identification with right-wing governments. A representative mark of this behavior occurred in the expressive support given to the presidential election of Bolsonaro and in the occupation of several positions in the exercise of his government. The article presents the historical trajectory of evangelical behavior in the political sphere and also the factors that historically configure theimagery of this religious segment, guiding its approaches to the right. Priority is given to the conceptual notion of "imaginary", as used by the so-called new political history. As sources of analysis, in addition to bibliographic texts, audiovisual resources, social media and lyrics from the Brazilian evangelical universe are used.

This is a discussion of the recent French rejection of the proposed European constitution, looking at the reasons some of the French voted in favor of it & others against it. The motives of the French middle class are assessed, with the conclusion that a nervousness about unemployment led these French voters to opt for protectionism rather than the constitution. The effects of the French vote are also analyzed, both in terms of domestic & European politics. Domestically, the negative vote meant political trouble for President Jacques Chirac, while internationally, the negative vote isolated France to a certain extent within the EU, though France continues to hold a central political & economic position within Europe. The article concludes with some thoughts on the effects of the vote on France's relations with the current British government of Tony Blair. R. Young

In this article the authors attempt to show that the gradual process of indexation which results from inflationary dynamics may account for the reduction in the dispersion of relative prices. They develop a model relating the length of adjustment periods, indexation and price responses. Next they look at the evidences for constraints on the behavior of relative wages in Brazil. The paper concludes with a discussion of the efficiency of price freezes as a stabilization strategy

Authoritarian governments and exchange rate policy in Latin American countries. Our aim on this paper is to identify the exchange rate policies used by Authoritarian governments in Latin America during the seventies and eighties. The literature shows that the focus of the exchange rate policy was on inflation control, which was not consistent with the evidence. We show on this paper that these governments aimed at a undervalued currency because of the behavior of the external balance of the countries. (Rev Econ Polít/GIGA)
