Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). https://doi.org/10.1145/3472714.3473624 ; Political communication in social media has gained increasing importance in the last years. In this study, we analyze the political parties' communication on Twitter and understand the sentiment of their communication. First by identifying their communication performance regarding the daily number of tweets, favorite tweets, number of retweets per day and per political party. We present a sentiment analysis by the political party using tweets data. In this study, we propose an explanatory model with the main drivers of retweets. To conduct this study, our approach used data analysis and machine learning techniques methods. Results indicate the main determinants that influence future retweets of political posts globally. Here we present a comparison of the communication content between tweets posts and the political parties' programs available on their institutional websites. We identify the similarities between tweets and formal programs per party and among all parties. This study contributes to analyze the coherence and effectiveness of the political parties' communication. ; authorsversion ; published

In the following sections I shall discuss the gradual evolution of political parties over the last half a century focusing primarily on Bangladesh. The discussion will begin with a broad overview of political parties highlighting the changing party systems and key features of political parties. I shall then centre my discussion on the roles of political parties, in mobilizing people for social and political movements as well as for participating in electoral politics which is geared towards capturing state power. The final section analyses the role of political parties in promoting democracy. I explore these roles because they are the most visible, discussed, and debated roles of parties in Bangladesh. The involvement of political parties in movement politics on the one hand and electoral politics on the other has left deep and sometimes contradictory imprints on the character of political parties. I shall highlight some of the key features of parties which originate from their involvement in movement politics as well as in electoral politics. In the final section I try to sum up how parties have performed in promoting democracy within their our organizations and outside in the country as a whole.

Members of political parties may influence each other. For example, a liberal in a party of moderates may moderate his views. At the same time, the moderates in the party may become more liberal. Voters in a district who favor such effects may care about the ideology of officeholders in other districts. They may therefore prefer a candidate who affiliates with a party over an independent with the same position.

In the democratic countries, political party acts as mediator bridging communication between government and its citizens. The decline of political party taking place before and after the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections and legislative elections certainly affects the political parties in carrying out their roles. Conducted in Malang, objective of this study is to describe factors contributing declining image of political parties and its implications. The findings showed that image of political parties are deteriorating due to lack of trust towards the political parties and politicians in the parliament. The Decree on direct vote system for both presidential and regional head election and establishment of an open proportional system in legislative election also contribute to the deterioration. Implications of the phenomenon are negative attitude and declining interest towards political party.

The paper aimes at exploring the relationships that exist between party structure, party system, patronage and the appointments of the political elites. It is focused on the extent to which political parties can control the allocation of jobs as well as find out which are the institutions over whom the political parties can exercise power; the extent to which historical legacies influence patronage patterns; the extent to which party patronage is exercised in a 'majoritarian' as opposed to a more 'consensual' manner across the spectrum of political parties; and the relationship that exist between the structure of the party, the appointment of political elites and patronage. The conclusion is that the party in public office and its allies in the coalition cabinet control the post of ministers and vice-ministers. While this last ones control the posts of their subordinates, it is hard to understand whether they select the employees from the party pool or from their personal networks. The other finding is that the structure of the party creates strong links between patronage and appointment, these last ones done with the scope of having control over government resources and distribution of resources. On the other hand the research didn't prove any link between historical legacies and patronage and party system and patronage. DOI:10.5901/ajis.2013.v2n3p307

Representative democracy is currenty facing strong social criticism for its incapacity to envolve people in a way that makes them part of the decision-making process. An existing gap between the representatives and the represented is hereby emphasized. In this space, the role of political parties is central in order to bridge society with institutions. How much are parties concerned about this issue? How and in which context do they interact more with their electorate and the wider society? Participatory democracy is emerging throughout the world in different forms and with different results, but the dominant pattern of democracy remains the liberal western democratic paradigm in which people can contribute barely through electing candidates. In order to achieve what Boaventura de Sousa Santos calls 'democratisation of democracy' the role of political parties is therefore fundamental in particular to achieve a more participative democracy within the representative model. This article approaches this theme through abibliographic review comparing social movements and political parties with a focus on the innovation of the Five Star Movement in Italy. Finally, it provides a reading ofthe relationship between political parties andparticipation, including good practice and perspectives.

Recent campaign finance innovations of the major political parties have blown large and widening holes in federal campaign finance regulation. The relationship between parties and candidates also challenges basic doctrinal categories of campaign finance law. The Constitution permits regulation of campaign finances to deal with the danger of corruption. But some judges and commentators have argued that the parties present danger of corruption. This Article finds that, although parties play a positive role in funding campaigns, certain party practices raise the specter corruption in the constitutional sense. Moreover, due to the close connection between parties and candidates, and the parties' role in linking private donors to key participants in the legislative process, party campaign practices may, constitutionally, be subject to greater regulation than comparable practices of nonparty political organizations. The Article presents specific proposals for dealing with the party activities that have undermined campaign finance law, and argues that such reforms would also bolster the positive the parties play in the political process.

This paper looks at fundamental characteristics of party organizations in the two federalist countries Switzerland and Canada. It addresses the question to what extent different forms of federalism directly affect the organization of political parties, and raises multi-dimensional questions such as: Do political parties in both countries operate the same way? To what extent are party organizations on national and on subnational level independent? How are candidates or party leaders on higher level selected? How is membership organized? Are there any financial transfers between the different layers of parties and how is party funding organized?
