; In this paper I want to show the link between political philosophy and philosophical anthropology in Schopenhauer's work. First of all, I deal briefly with the Schopenhauerian anthropological pessimism, his negative view of human nature that affects his political philosophy, aimed at the criticism of selfishness. In order to achieve this, I focus on the main bulwark against this selfishness, that is, the State, which is for Schopenhauer an institution dedicated to protect the individuals. For this reason, I try to show the link of his philosophy with modern contractualism and liberalism. then I introduce the form of government defended by Schopenhauer, monarchy, to emphasise the continuity of his political thought. Finally, I deal with Carl Schmitt's criticism of Schopenhauer's philosophy of right and the relationship between anthropology and politics that Schmitt himself presents in The Concept of the Political. In the conclusion, I try to show that Schopenhauer's political philosophy can be described as a sui generis liberalism.

Drawing on both Agnes Heller's paper "Where Are we at Home?" and Hans Blumenberg's metaphorology, this article discusses the meaning of the home metaphor as applied to the realm of politics. It examines particularly whether or not liberal democracy can be considered a home. In principle, the article argues that the home metaphor is a better image to think premodern, conservative and communitarian politics. Yet its usage in a liberal context attests to some of the profoundest human anxieties.

In the following essay we offer an interpretation of Rancière's thought. We do this in three steps: at first we sustain the systematic character of Rancière's esthetic philosophy in particular and of his philosophy in general. We then locate the genesis of this theory within the discussion with the politicization of art. To end with the truly political reading that follows from Rancière's philosophy.

; Although the fear is a grounding emotion present in all beings, only humans tend to structure it not only to manipulate the environment but also the time. In consequence, human kind can make from fear a geographical landscape or even a narrative. Each society experiences a diversity of frights based on the disparities of their cultural restructuration. Nevertheless, only the fear (by means of the feeling of insecurity) allows the passage from democracy to dictatorship. Under such a context, the present paper places under the lens of scrutiny four valuable works, authored by Hannah Arendt: What politics is?, The Human Condition (1998), Eichmann in Jerusalem (1999) and the Origins of Totalitarianism (1987).

Can we expect any help from political philosophy for the political judgement? In the work of Garzón Valdés there are reasons to give a positive answer to that question. Particularly in its proposal of a «criterion of irrationability» that «would work of way similar to the falsability in natural sciences», providing limits to the «purely rational». The problem is if the route of the universal consensuses provides criteria with real informative content. From another point of view, in the end we find the enduring problem, which prevents to maintain the comparison: in practical philosophy there is no possibility of empirical control. But we have other types of controls, more uncertain but relevant. There is one that Garzón Valdés passes with the best grade: truthfulness in dealing with his own ideas.

Within the context of an era that appears to be defined by the triumph of gobalized capitalism, an alternative political project doesn't seem possible. Accordingly, Marxism can only be conjured as a spectre, in Derrida's sense. The 'philosophical conjuration' in postfordist society that Hardt & Negri propose in Empire is discussed, i.e. their notion of a General Intellect, by analogy with Saint Augustine's messianism in The City of God. The differences with Derrida's messianism are outlined, & the possibility to conceive of a 'messianism without a Messiah' in industrial society is discussed.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the conceptual network that operates in the political philosophical discourse of the Nicaraguan thinker Alejandro Serrano Caldera. In addition to show the proposals and definitions found in some of his works that summarize the themes of his political philosophy for Nicaragua and the contribution to Latin American philosophy from the perspective of a philosophy of consciousness and freedom.

The article seeks to demonstrate the strong late medieval voluntaristic legacy of Scotus in modern political philosophy, especially in Bodin, Machiavelli, and Hobbes, but also in Locke, Rousseau, and Kant. It examines the Scotist conception of power and its philosophical-theological foundations, as well as some of the topics of his "new" metaphysics and anthropology in order to identify their direct or indirect consequences for modern political philosophy.
