Hegel saw modern philosophy as internally divided between its metaphysics and epistemology, on the one hand, and its political philosophy, on the other. Descartes had developed a metaphysics of totality to ground the epistemological certainty of the cogito, treating true unity as a unity of opposites (a totality). But political philosophy, in its empiricist and formalist forms, relied on an impoverished conception of unity—treating it, respectively, as a mere aggregation of parts or as formal consistency. The Philosophy of Right thus attempted to rectify the deficiencies of political philosophy by grounding it on the Cartesian concept of totality.

; The following paper contends that Plato's philosophy is essentially a political activity. This imply, however, to distinguish how this political philosophy carries out, its meaning and scope. Many scholars have attributed to Plato the political project, which Socrates develops in the dialogue Republic. Nevertheless, the simile of the cave reveals the impossibility of such a project or, at least, the serious problems that lie behind it. So, I suggest, that is not in the dialogue Republic where it finds Plato's authentic political philosophy, but in the so-called aporetic dialogues. In these dialogues it does not discuss about a possible city, but it exercises in a lively way a politics builted by Socrates' dialectic therapy, whose task is unveiling the virtue through the unmasking the faces of the city. ; Ministerio de Innovación, Ciencias y Universidades FFI12017/83770-P

The philosophy of nature preservation has focused on whether arguments for nature preservation should be centred on the value of nature itself (ecocentrism) or derived human benefits (anthropocentrism). This book argues that this way of thinking has been counter-productive for environmental ethics.

; In this paper I want to show the link between political philosophy and philosophical anthropology in Schopenhauer's work. First of all, I deal briefly with the Schopenhauerian anthropological pessimism, his negative view of human nature that affects his political philosophy, aimed at the criticism of selfishness. In order to achieve this, I focus on the main bulwark against this selfishness, that is, the State, which is for Schopenhauer an institution dedicated to protect the individuals. For this reason, I try to show the link of his philosophy with modern contractualism and liberalism. then I introduce the form of government defended by Schopenhauer, monarchy, to emphasise the continuity of his political thought. Finally, I deal with Carl Schmitt's criticism of Schopenhauer's philosophy of right and the relationship between anthropology and politics that Schmitt himself presents in The Concept of the Political. In the conclusion, I try to show that Schopenhauer's political philosophy can be described as a sui generis liberalism.

Drawing on both Agnes Heller's paper "Where Are we at Home?" and Hans Blumenberg's metaphorology, this article discusses the meaning of the home metaphor as applied to the realm of politics. It examines particularly whether or not liberal democracy can be considered a home. In principle, the article argues that the home metaphor is a better image to think premodern, conservative and communitarian politics. Yet its usage in a liberal context attests to some of the profoundest human anxieties.
