Correspondence between Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles and Francisco Ahumada. The latter requests a referral to Mr. Coppel. He also informs that B.A. José Vasconcelos notified him that he is moving from Hermosillo to Mexico City, but he will try to convince him to travel with him to San Diego to visit Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles. Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles expresses that he will be glad to see him and asks Francisco Ahumada to find out the reason why Vasconcelos is moving to Mexico City. Francisco Ahumada informs Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles that B.A. Vasconcelos did not accept the invitation to go to San Diego, that he was pessimistic since the opposition was losing its strenght and that he was not well received in Sonora. He adds the letter from B.A. Vasconcelos to Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles informing that the situation in the country has worsen but it has improve for the government. He criticizes Gen. Almazán for becoming a civil leader. Regarding his personal situation, he informs that he is not involved in politics anymore. Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles regrets that B.A. was not able to visit him and says that it is unjustifiable that maliciousness and individual desires provoke the failure of ideas such as the creation of the University of Sonora. Francisco Ahumada informs Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles that the war in Europe is coming and that it will cause serious economic, political and social effects in Mexico. Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles replies that Mr. Coppel has not answered his letter and that he considers it is early to give an opinion about the world war since they do not know its range and duration. He believes that, after solving the conflict in Poland, it is necessary to make a peace agreement despite of Prime Minister Chamberlain. He states that if the war gets a bigger dimension, it will be a disaster for the world. There will not be winners, everyone will be defeated. In relation to Mexico, if order and discipline are not established before the European war, the situation will be uncertain. Besides, if the Bank of Mexico does not take the necessary measures for economic stabilization, speculation will cause serious effects. Mr. Ahumada thanks for Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles' commentary and expresses that he believes there will be peace after Hitler finds a solution for the matter in Poland. He informs that B.A. opened an office with his brother in Mexico City. He adds a newspaper clipping with the heading "Reply to B.A. J. Vasconcelos. Students call him an authoritarian." He also says he is sorry that B.A. Vasconcelos is not living in the real world, since he is destroying the hopes of the people that thought he would save the youth in the country. Gen. Plutarco Elías Calles regrets that B.A. Vasconcelos informed that he approached him and the help he received from him, since his intention was good, selfless and patriotic. / Correspondencia entre el Gral. PEC y Francisco Ahumada.
