This paper offers a multidimensional theoretical scheme to analyze professional ethics in the field of political public relations. We suggest investigating the decisions of these professionals using moral foundations theory because human ethical reasoning is contextual, and the examination of ethics in a one-dimensional manner as previous researchers have done overlooks the complexity of the moral choices that such professionals make. The prospects of the proposed theoretical approach are demonstrated on 16 interviews with post-soviet Russian political PR industry leaders that were conducted from March 2018 to April 2020. Our empirical findings show that Russian political PR specialists employ all moral foundations, however, in their narratives the "care/harm" and "authority/respect" foundations were not mentioned very often. Overall, this paper makes a critical contribution to research on professional ethics in political public relations, and it provides important insight into the specifics of moral reasoning in the Russian political PR industry that is insufficiently described in the current literature.
Political marketing during election campaigns seems to be an everyday reality for an average citizen in Serbia. The Internet used to be considered as a bastion of freedom, different from traditional, controlled media. However, social networks have changed this - it's getting harder to isolate from politics. Voluntarily or not, we see political messages online just as we see them on TV, billboards or in the press. Not only in commercials, politicians also speak from their Facebook pages to their fans - because politicians have become celebrities, the stars. Exposure to political messages is relevant in forming public opinion, but the manipulation gets more hidden, especially during traditional and religious holidays like the Easter. It's easier to access people during leisure times and politicians tend to present themselves as 'one of us'. We researched the type of activities of political parties on Facebook and we proved that, even though the style of campaigns may vary among parties, their political PR follows the same rules as in the traditional media.
The 1997 British and 1998 German general elections showed striking parallels and distinctive differences in the way Blair and Schroeder delivered their campaigns and defeated long-sitting conservative governments. Of vital importance was a new quality of political public relations called `spin doctoring'. In this, the British Labour Party served as a kind of role model for the German Social Democratic Party. This article traces the origins and different meanings of `spin doctoring' in both countries, distinguishes between media-related and non-media-related spin activities and analyses it against the background of the specific national contexts. The aims and methods of political spin doctors in modern election campaigns are described, particularly their half antagonistic, half symbiotic relationship with journalists. A comparative content analysis of the press coverage of the last general elections reveals that the two countries' journalists dealt with political spin doctors very differently. In Great Britain, `spin doctoring high gear' predominated, in Germany it was `spin doctoring low gear'. British journalists covered their efforts extensively and critically, mainly because some of them turned to unusually aggressive methods towards the media. German journalists were less likely to report extensively on spin doctoring. This can be explained by the fact that it is still in a stage of development in Germany and — for that very reason — that German journalists are still less interested in the strategic inner perspective of the electoral campaigning.
Political dynamics that is followed by a wave of democratization reinforcing the existence of the Public Relations (PR) as a ubiquitous entity. The interplay between Political PR with PR itself and Political Communication causes a misleading understanding about the domain of Political PR in the PR studies. Political PR is known as spin doctors refers to a negative perception, which emphasizes the model of PR propagandists rather than two way symmetrical communication. Although empirically, propagandist PR is still needed nevertheless the approach of two way symmetrical communication is more challenging that must be conducted by political actors in an account of democratization. This paper aims to convey a description about Political PR both theoretically and empirically as well as to distinguish Political PR and political communication. Political PR emphasises on the importance of relationship and management function in achieving political objectives instead of communicating political messages only as political communication do.
"The communication of ideas between individuals and any resultant adoption of those ideas is a complex mechanism". (Wills& Midgley, 1973, p. 77) Rogers defined five stages for every individual in an adoption process. But how well this famous fivestages of Rogers work in political marketing? What sharpens the process to move from awareness to interest in political market? Why does people's awareness not always turn into the interest? What makes people to be more involved into the activitiesof some political brand? The possible answer – good archetypes for their owners make easy the success of the political personon political market. Archetypes of Carl Gustav Jung can be interesting tool in political Branding. Archetypes can work well asa desired positioning for many brands in political markets. By archetype development we can discuss success and failure ofsome political brands. This concept is linked to brand equity too. To make brand strong marketers have the famous CustomerBased Brand Equity model (CBBE). In this model everything is seen from the view of consumers. "Two fundamentally importantquestions marketers facing are: What do different brands mean to consumers? And how does the brand knowledge ofconsumers affect their response to marketing activity? The basic premise of the CBBE model is that the power of brand lies inwhat customers have learned, felt, seen, and heard about the brand, as a result of their experiences over time. In other words, the power of brand lies in what resides in the minds of customers". (Keller, 2011, p. 71)From the view of Customer Based Brand Equity model, it is seen that brand knowledge is the key to creating brandequity; hence brand knowledge establishes difference between products, services, ideas, persons. The Brand Knowledge isstanding on two legs, or two main components: Brand Awareness and Brand Image.
