In December 1588 King Henry III ordered the Guise brothers to be assassinated. But the Catholic League was in control of Paris and on 16 January 1589 officials of the League arrested between 50 and 60 members of Parlement and imprisoned them in the Bastille. This pamphlet outlines the oath that the League caused all members of Parlement and other officials to make, i.e. an oath of loyalty to the cause of the Catholic League. "Fait en Parlement, le xxvi iour de Januier l'an mil cinq cens quatre vingt & neuf." ; Electronic reproduction ; 7 p. ; 16 cm.
