El presente artículo se centra en el estudio de tres de los aspectos (ético, jurídico y político) más originales y representativos del pensamiento de Francisco de Vitoria (circa 1483-1546). El primero de esos aspectos nos lleva a reconocer la originalidad del fundador de la Escuela de Salamanca al demostrar que es posible fusionar la doctrina neotomista con el humanismo renacentista. En segundo lugar, desde un punto de vista jurídico, nuestro autor se adscribe a la corriente iusnaturalista racionalista de raíz estoico-ciceroniana aunque, lejos de asumir una posición teórica equidistante respecto a los dilemas morales y los retos que afectan a los juristas de su época, Vitoria se pronuncia respecto a la problemática de su tiempo con una actitud de compromiso moral e intelectual genuinamente iusfilósofica. Por último, en tercer lugar, en sentido político la principal aportación vitoriana consiste en haber concebido la idea del ius communicationis como un concepto fundado en los principales valores del humanismo cosmopolita que se orienta a la constitución de una sociedad humana universal. ; This article focuses on the study of three of the most original and representative aspects (ethical, legal and political) of Francisco de Vitoria's thinking (circa 1483-1546). The first of these aspects leads us to acknowledge the originality of the founder of the School of Salamanca in having demonstrated that it is possible to blend the Neo-Thomist doctrine with Renaissance humanism. In the second place, from a legal perspective, Vitoria belongs to the rationalist natural law trend rooted in Cicero's Stoicism although, far from assuming a halfway theoretical position regarding the moral dilemmas and challenges posed to the lawyers of his time, Vitoria takes a stance with regard to the questions of his time with an attitude of moral and intellectual commitment which is genuinely of a legal philosophy nature. In the third place, in a political sense the main Vitorian contribution consists of having conceived of the idea of the ius communicationis as a concept based on the chief values of the cosmopolitan humanism directed to the constitution of a universal human society.

The aim of this study is to review Renaissance, Modern and Contemporary interpretations of Thuc. 2.37.1, in wich Pericles offers a polemical definition of Democracy. ; El objetivo del presente estudio es pasar revista a las interpretaciones renacentistas, modernas y contemporáneas de Thuc. 2.37.1, en donde Pericles ofrece una polémica definición de democracia.

This study examines some of the most characteristic and significant examples of competitive physical games that took place in the cities of the centre and the north of Italy in the Middle Ages. The article assesses if these games can be considered sport in the general sense of the term (according to modern usage), as well as consider its relationship with traditional festivities and military training activities in the context of urban life in the Italy of that time. A brief description of certain martial games will demonstrate its social and cultural importance in this context. ; En el presente artículo se pasa revista a algunos de los ejemplos más característicos y significativos de juegos competitivos de actividad física que se celebraban en las ciudades del centro y norte de Italia en tiempos medievales. Se contempla si tales juegos pueden ser considerados como «deportes» en el sentido más general y habitual del término (en su acepción contemporánea), así como se examina su relación con las festividades tradicionales y prácticas de entrenamiento militar ciudadano en el contexto de la vida urbana de la Italia de aquel tiempo. [EN] Five hundred years after the construction of the castle of Mula, which was ordered to build the I Mar-qués de los Vélez, Pedro Fajardo Chacón, as a result of his expulsion from the town during the commu-nal uprisings of the kingdom of Murcia. The fortress, a work of masonry, built on the old Andalusian citadel, has a novel construction in the southeast of the peninsular from the point of view of the multi-aesthetic. Como han puesto de manifiesto los historiadores de la ciencia, el impulso de las actividades comerciales en los nuevos centros urbanos multiplica el interés por las ciencias aplicadas, en especial de las aritméticas prácticas, que dentro del grupo de las matemáticas conforman un subgrupo específico, pero diverso desde el punto de vista de los contenidos. Sin embargo, durante el Siglo de Oro también se cultivaron los contenidos geométricos, especialmente de carácter aplicado a la ingeniería civil y militar, y cuyas obras conforman el grupo de las geometrías aplicadas. La producción de tratados sobre estas temáticas corrobora la importancia de estas dos vertientes de la matemática española en el período renacentista. La finalidad de esta investigación es el estudio de los listados terminológicos que acogen algunas de las principales fuentes que ejemplifican esta corriente. Estos materiales léxicos, insertos en esta tratadística de especialidad, representan una fuente de análisis para los estudios lexicográficos de nuestra lengua. ; As it has been shown by historians of science, the promotion of business in the new urban centres multiplied the interest by applied sciences, especially the practical arithmetic, that within the group of mathematics constitute a specific subgroup, but different according to the contents. However, the geometrical contents were also cultivated during the Golden Age, especially those that were related to the civil and military engineering, and whose works institute the group of applied geometry. Production of treaties about these issues corroborates the importance of these two aspects of Spanish mathematics in the Renaissance. The aim of this research is the study of specialized vocabulary which is inserted in some of the main sources that exemplify this trend. These terminological appendices represent a source of analysis for the lexicographical studies in Spanish language. ; peerReviewed

El cardenal de Granvela fue una de las figuras más notables del mundo diplomático hispano del siglo XVI, especialmente durante el reinado de Felipe II. Esta relevancia política se ve también reflejada en el plano cultural. Para ilustrar su papel de coleccionista, se ha querido analizar la relación del cardenal con Stephanus Pighius, quien se encargó de sus bibliotecas desde 1557 hasta inicio de los años 70. Además de este cargo, también se dedicó a aumentar la colección de antigüedades de Perrenot, ya fuera mediante encargos u obsequios. Concretamente, se prestará atención al caso de una copa antigua de plata descubierta en Arras, sede del obispado del que fue titular Granvela, que inspirará la obra Mythologia (1559). ; Cardinal de Granvelle was one of the most notorious figures within European diplomacy in the 16th century, especially during Philip II's reign. His political prominence could also be perceived on a cultural level. To illustrate Granvelle's role as a collector, we will analyse his relationship with Stephanus Pighius, who was in charge of the cardinal's personal libraries from 1557 to the early seventies. Besides this responsibility, he dedicated himself to increasing his patron's antiquities collection, by purchasing them for Perrenot or even gifting them to him. In order to carry out such analysis, we will be particularly focusing on the case of an ancient silver vase, discovered in Arras, which inspired Pighius to publish his Mythologia (1559).
