The article examines research data practices in the Humanities within the European area. The great attention paid to research data in European policies on research confirms their strategic role in the development and optimization of the scientific research. The analysis of some research infrastructures and projects focused on research data in the Humanities shows how the European Member States can act centrally in improving and developing them, in order to make efficient individual activities and to reduce the lack of homogeneity, and to support the presence of easily identifiable, usable and integrated systems.

Drawing on the introduction of educational effectiveness research (EER) in the Italian context, this article offers a review on the current state of the theory and the research conducted on educational effectiveness. Some developmental issues are identified, in order to produce a critical comparison between the comprehensive model for EER and the dynamic multilevel one.The multilevel approach is then investigated according to the following dimensions: policies, schools, and classrooms. Finally, this paper explores the research implications of the dynamic model, and postulates its inclusion within the Italian educational system's evaluations.

Health research and innovation (R&I) is attracting the attention of EU, national and regional policymakers. As Health policies are becoming a public policy priority – targeting not only social needs but also the overall economic development of EU countries – Health R&I have been identified as key areas of investment. However, despite the attempts to reduce inequalities also in this field, a strong concentration of Health R&I across EU regions still exists. The paper provides recent and novel empirical evidence on the topic, describing the concentration of Health patents, publications and EU project participation in top EU regions. Regional data help in assessing that, also in the Health sector, concentration is not only a cross-country but also a within-country issue.

Tourism, with its related subsectors, is a highly fragmented sector with most tourism organizations being SMEs. Small Tourism Businesses are the backbone of the economy of many countries around the world, and Italy is certainly not an exception. Considering their varied activities, specialized services, and integration in the society, SMEs are certainly the economic lifeblood of the tourism sector, especially in developing countries, rural and remote/unprivileged areas. The aforementioned considerations contribute to explain why SMEs literature have been attracting huge attention from academics working in several disciplines such as business and management, marketing, sociology, anthropology and politics. Despite this, the engagement by academicians in research relating to SMEs in tourism can be still considered to be limited. Many research areas still need to be further investigated and deepened. This special issue was launched to call for research papers aiming to deepen our understanding about the emerging challengesin Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises.

There is very little scientific literature that considers the relationship between religions and an integral concept of Sustainable Development, including its three dimensions (social, economic and environmental), as proposed in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It was necessary to conduct a study of this kind, with the aim of making visible and show with concrete data, the contribution of religions to the integral sustainability. This paper presents an empirical research in which we intend to make visible the actions performed by religious organizations in Catalonia, that have been contributing to the Sustainable Development. The study is the launching of the Sustainability and Religions Watch. This study about the contribution of religious organizations to the Sustainable Development has been made by a mixed method with two techniques for data collection: firstly, has counted the presence of indicators linked to the priority areas of Sustainable Development, from the analysis of the content of the websites of religious organizations (quantitative analysis). Moreover, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted to representatives of religious organizations (qualitative analysis). The study of the contribution of religions to the Sustainable Development opens new doors to interfaith dialogue because it is based on elements that are common between different beliefs. This dialogue is a path that can effectively contribute to peace. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion

The focus on environmental education research is at the centre of national/international educational agendas and policies; at the same time, there is a rise in public debate of ideologies/discourses/narratives on environmental issues which, while fuelling interest, may cause new tensions in educational research, which, on the other hand, is required to rigorously and precisely examine 'discourses over ideas'. The international literature reveals a heated debate on environmental educational ideologies but also a research gap on the complex relationship between the ideologies that underpin the research itself and the educational practices investigated, as both are carriers of 'worldviews'. Therefore, this work has set itself the following objectives: 1) to identify the ideologies of environmental education research and practice; 2) to investigate the relationships between ideologies and beliefs, educational approaches and research methods; 2) to propose this analysis as a possible heuristic and critical instrument for researchers, in order to reflect and explicate their methodological choices, taking into account the tensions "about worldviews" of which the researches are themselves bearers.
