"Action": publishing research results in film
In: Forum qualitative Sozialforschung: FQS = Forum: qualitative social research, Band 13, Heft 1
ISSN: 1438-5627

Policy Utilisation of Research Results in Cameroon
In: International social science journal: ISSJ, Band 56, Heft 1, S. 37-45
ISSN: 0020-8701
This article proposes to shed light on the scientific community's preoccupation with utilizing the knowledge contained in the results of scientific research. Within the theoretical framework of actionism, the study is based on a questionnaire survey & interviews administered to a sample of 200 researchers, decisionmakers, & research-commissioning bodies in Cameroon. The data cover commissioning, evaluation, & utilization practices, 1990-2001. The results show considerable differences in judgment between researchers, decisionmakers, & commissioning bodies with regard to existing practices & desirable usage, differences that reflect the lack of connection between properly academic concerns & policy prospects, as well as a research funding structure that separates problem definition from solution implementation. Given inadequate utilization of scientific research data in public policy, the article proposes renewed institutional forms that might encourage academics to take account of the practical requirements of social engineering. 1 Table, 3 References. Using knowledge by taking account of the results of scientific research is a preoccupation of the scientific community on which this article proposes to shed light by considering the case of Cameroon. Within the theoretical framework of actionism, the study is based on a questionnaire survey administered to a sample of 200 researchers, decision-makers, and research-commissioning bodies, complemented by interviews. The data cover commissioning, evaluation and utilisation practices over the period 1990-2001. The results show considerable differences in judgement between researchers, decision-makers, and commissioning bodies with regard to existing practices and desirable usage. The differences reflect the lack of connection between properly academic concerns and policy prospects, as well as a research funding structure in Cameroon that separates problem definition from solution implementation. Given inadequate utilisation of scientific research data in public policy, the article proposes renewed institutional forms that might encourage academicism to take account of the practical requirements of social engineering. Blog: SUSTAINABILITY GOVERNANCE
By Johanna Coenen and Gabi Sonderegger Communicating our research results to fellow scientists, but also policy makers, practitioners, journalists and the general public, is a core task in science. It is particularly important if we aim to facilitate evidence-based decision-making and aspire to have a real-world impact with our research. Visualizations play a powerful role … Continue reading Online visualization tools to communicate research results
Commentary: Toward an Unrestricted Dissemination of Research Results
In: Knowledge, Band 13, Heft 3, S. 353-356
In this article, an argument is advanced for essentially unrestricted dissemination of research results, including preliminary findings, on the basis that restrictions are not only prior restraints on free speech, but are also inimical to the interests of science, public policy, and the common good.
