Since the resurgence of Russia under Putin's leadership the recurring contestation of NATO's legitimacy has evolved from the rhetoric level to a greater oppositional capacity. The features of the New Strategic Concept of the Atlantic Alliance, being outlined by a group of experts, & the new Russian doctrines guiding its external actions that have been approved in the last two years, do not indicate political convergences. The forthcoming NATO Lisbon summit of November 2010 will have to manage a balance between its legitimacy issues towards the Kremlin that have crystallized in Europe, & the need to cooperate with the Russian giant in the global strategic environment. Russia-China relations have been marked by areas of cooperation built on shared approaches in fundamental foreign policy topics, as well as by some elements of continuity in projects of national consolidation. However, this has not been a relationship without constraints, especially regarding incompatible goals. This article analyses the relations between Russia and China in an internationally changed framework, where the Asia-Pacific region has been gaining growing relevance. Political, economic and security relations are object of analysis, with the aim of understanding the main issues in the agenda and the dynamics that these have generated regarding the bilateral relationship, which is increasingly understood as asymmetrical. ; The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze a relatively young type of discourse: scientific-political-business discourse and show examples of it in two countries, Brazil and Russia. The article discusses the phenomenon of the dialogue of scientific discourse in contemporary society with other spheres of human activity - those of politics and business - analyzing issues discussed in two forums of economic development (in São Paulo and St. Petersburg). The research is based on Bakhtinian ideas about dialogue and the discursive and comparative analysis carried out by CEDISCOR, the research group which is based in the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. One of the concepts developed by this group is the tertium comparationis (or element of comparison), which is used in this analysis. The results point to the appropriation, by business discourse, of the authority given to science, which validates business practices and to the ideological similarity, fruit of the globalized productive relations, settled in both countries.

American foreign policy has to adapt to an increasingly belligerent Russia. During the campaign, it was clear that Barack Obama & John McCain had very different views of Putin's grand strategy. Though victorious, Obama's policies towards Russia are still too optimistic as to what should be expected from the Kremlin at this juncture. Adapted from the source document.
