Service Enterprise Integration is developing a business paradigm that is of considerable interest in both the "push" research the academic area and the "pull" research of industry. A prominent example of this development has been the transformation of IBM into a service enterprise and the labeling of its new business model as "On-Demand Business." Manufacturing research and practice have done considerable work on the problem of service productivity. In fact, this work has extended the operations of many manufacturing firms to include the "service enterprise" component. IBM, GE, Siemens are several examples of this development. The book investigates the proven concepts, models, methods, and techniques in manufacturing operations and examine all their aspects that are relevant to the problem of service productivity. The presentations provide literature reviews, conceptual analysis, and solution-result-oriented applications on topics including ontology, reference models, ERP, supply chain integration, knowledge management, data security, and a variety of cases on particular applications

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present a visualization method developed as a result of an observed need to capture the organizational arrangements of a complex engineering service enterprise. The focal case study is between a public sector client and private sector provider where multiple organizations contribute resource to create value. This visualization can assist client and provider stakeholders to take a holistic perspective of the purpose and management of their enterprise, highlighting the complexity of value co‐creation in service enterprises and the interdependencies between organizational units.Design/methodology/approachDevelopment of the Enterprise Image has drawn on research within the service, organizational and individual cognition literatures. Data were obtained from an in‐depth Defence sector case study representing diverse interactions within client and provider communities. The case focused on a fast‐jet aircraft availability contract, where the public sector client outsourced through‐life support activities to a set of private sector providers. Preliminary testing of the validity and utility of the image was conducted by presentations to single and mixed communities of clients and providers involved in value co‐creation.FindingsThe paper proposes a method of pictorially representing a complex alliance, called an "Enterprise Image". The work provides empirically based insight into the management processes of a complex, multi‐organizational service enterprise, where little or no enterprise level management had been in evidence. The Enterprise Image appeared to have the effect of raising questions and conversations about how the overall enterprise might be managed and how ongoing service improvement might be achieved.Practical implicationsIn this research the Enterprise Image was drawn by researchers – ongoing research aims to design a method that helps clients and providers co‐create their own Enterprise Image. From current findings the implication of this research will be to encourage enterprise management of ongoing improvement in multi‐organisational service enterprises.Originality/valueModels and representations for understanding the delivery of value are mostly provider and product focused, despite the recognition in a servitised environment of the complex interactions with client organizations. This paper presents a methodology for visually representing value co‐creation in complex service enterprises where the service includes significant client resource involvement.

Recent years have seen increasing experimentation with and reliance upon interlevel administrative collaboration for adapting our traditional practices of government to the rapid extension and elaboration of national policies. In many instances, collaboration across the levels has been based upon the well-tried device of the grant-in-aid. In others, the practices of conferring, advising, transmitting official information, and acting jointly or interdependently for the performance of governmental services have been quickened. In yet other instances where federal as well as state agencies now regulate the same areas of business enterprise, a considerable body of collaborative interlevel practice has been developed. It is with this last field, especially as the collaborative action is directed toward the regulation of public service enterprises, that we are here concerned.Prior to 1933, federal regulation of public service enterprises had a long experience with railroads (1887), a longer experience with banks coming under the national system (1863), and a shorter experience under the Federal Reserve System (1913), and a yet shorter experience with water-power enterprises (1920). States and localities developed agencies and practices for the regulation of railroads and local transportation systems, banks, water, gas, telephone, and electric utilities, and, in the twenties, highway bus and trucking operations.

The paper describes the development of an agent-based simulation tool for hospital managers to manage their productivity of services, especially in the context of supporting services like patient transport logistics. The learning cockpit allows hospital managers to see how the change of inputs changes the overall perceived customer values of all stakeholders and therefore to get a visualization of the impacts their decisions cause. The paper introduces the general research domain service-productivity, followed by a description of the development steps of artefact creation. The learning cockpit is part of a research project called BELOUGA, which is funded by the German government.

The multiplicity of definitions of modernization due to the fact that the very concept of "modernization" has very deep roots, related to the development of human civilization on its inherent social and economic laws. One of the most important laws is the development of the modernization process. Currently, the modernization process scale covers a wide field of human activity that initiates improvement of conceptual provisions of modernization. Modernization theory emerged in the 60s of XX century in the struggle for influence in the third world. Only by the middle of the 80s, when there was accumulated both positive and crisis experience a large number of third world countries that have implemented a variety of projects (both in the West and the socialist pattern) formed the theoretical concepts that are suitable to support a relatively non-ideological modernization politician. The result was the understanding of the transformation of the concept of "modernization" in the subject of analysis for representatives of disciplines, from different sides of the practice of "new" countries and analyse the reasons for successes and failures of the relevant development projects. © 2016, Econjournals.
