The case of the Danish "cartoon war" was a premonition of things to come: accelerated social construction of inequalities and their accelerated symbolic communication, translation and negotiation. New uses of values in organizing and managing inequalities emerge. Values lead active social life as bourgeois virtues (McCloskey, 2006), their subversive alternatives or translated "memes" of cultural history. Since social life of values went global and online, tracing their hybrid manifestations requires cross-culturally competent domestication (Magala, 2005) as if they were "memes" manipulated for further reengineering. Hopes are linked to emergent concepts of "microstorias" (Boje,2002), bottom-up, participative, open citizenship (Balibar,2004), disruption of stereotypical branding in mass-media (Sennett, 2006). However, Kuhn's opportunistic deviation from Popperian evolutionary epistemology should fade away with other hidden injuries of Cold War, to free our agenda for the future of social sciences in general and organizational sciences in particular (Fuller, 2000, 2003).

This paper presents a theoretical and methodological approach to analysing images in public space as part of a transformative visual dialogue in everyday life. Images are conceptualised through the lens of sociocultural psychology and analytically approached through the metaphor of 'the social life of images,' by which the life cycle of images is followed as they respond and borrow from one another in a continuous dialogue. The analytical framework starts by situating the image and identifying its spatial and temporal contexts. Then, it considers the social actors influencing the image's social life and the different stages in an image's trajectory. Leading to an analysis of the political dynamics of an image and its potential symbolic power to influence the public discourse. Any conceptualisation of evil, arguably, has to empower us to resist or transform it in our lived worlds. The latter concern motivates this paper much more than a thorough analysis of evil itself. Drawing on Jewish and Christian thought, I tentatively consider evil as resulting from (or, being exacerbated by) the incomplete or failed cultivation of the humane. Along this line, evil is the opposite of humanity; it is the antihuman, the subhuman (Buber), or the demonic (Heschel). Gratuitous violence, hatred, resentment, and malice manifest this dark 'power' of evil. In the aforementioned traditions, peace and justice are conceived as being dependent on the inner order or unity of the soul. Conversely, iniquity – as the manifestation of evil – in the world reflects conflicts or disorders in individual souls ('selves'). Hence the need to constitute one's personhood. Such continuous creation takes place through genuine human encounters, where and when love, friendship, and gratitude are allowed to unfold themselves. These 'dispositions' are conceived as counterweights to evil. I will work out this argument, but also briefly examine how education, rural and urban planning, economic and political 'systems' can either breed or curtail evil.

The City Arimaddanapura, 'the City of the Enemy Crusher', or Tampadipa 'the Land of Copper', some of the original names of the old Bagan used in the lithic inscriptions. In command of the Ayeyarwady River, sited just a few miles downstream from the great tributary the Chindwin, that flows down from India and Assam. Bagan stood midway between the delta trading ports of the Mons and the China road, between the river land overland routes to India, and the scattered trails that still weave through the hills to the east, to the remainder of South East Asia. Bagan was the crossroads for traders as well as armies. Bagan received not only a direct input of Indian artistic forms, from the mid-11th century onwards, but also an adapted version from the hands of pre-Bagan, Mon and Pyu kingdoms, whose cultural life had been incorporated into that of Bagan, before the rise of city to statehood. Influenced by Indian conception of statecraft and government brought to the emergent city power by Brahmans from India, no doubt attracted by the riches service to so great a state would bring, Bagan was to develop into an Empire under king Anawrahta (1044-1077 A.D.) and king Kyansitha (1084-1113 A.D.) and their successors. The social life of Bagan people can be seen in the fresco paintings, sculptures, stone reliefs, stucco, terracotta plaques and stone inscriptions at Bagan period temples, stupas, caves, ordination halls and monasteries.

Social lives are increasingly unmoored from physical location. 21st century developments in social media, virtual worlds, augmented reality, electronic financial transactions, drones, robotics, and artificial intelligence allow human beings to interact in more and more robust ways at a physical remove from their location. Meanwhile, the ubiquity of multinational corporations, global supply chains, and cloud-based data all mean that our lives are more likely to be affected by activity that is spatially distant. Virtual effects often replace direct territorial effects. Three important consequences flow from this ubiquitous technology-enabled, data-driven virtual global societal activity. First, the territorial location of data becomes increasingly arbitrary and substantively unimportant. Second, territorially based courts (or law enforcement authorities generally) will sometimes be less able to enforce their decisions because those decisions require cooperation from relevant actors in far-flung communities. Third, as a direct result of the first two problems, governmental and judicial authorities are increasingly turning to multinational corporate data intermediaries to carry out and enforce their orders because only those companies have sufficient global reach to make legal rulings effective. But deputizing these intermediaries to become enforcement agents, while logical and possibly effective, raises new problems regarding the scope of governmental authority and the distortions involved in privatizing law enforcement. Although scholars first began raising these issues at the dawn of the commercial internet era as far back as 1995, the jurisprudential solutions we see so far are still largely unsatisfying, both conceptually and practically. Indeed, as with many private international law problems that have bedeviled courts and commentators for hundreds of years, there may not be a fully satisfactory solution. Moreover, even if there were a single unifying theory for private international law in the Information Age, it's not at all clear that everyone would agree on what that theory should be. Thus, as legal pluralists have long realized, there is never a stable 'solution' to the reality of legal pluralism. Instead, legal pluralism is an inevitable (and perhaps not even an undesirable) result of a world with multiple communities and multiple legal and quasi-legal systems. Yet, even if there is no single unifying theory that could put an end to legal conflicts, we can still survey the types of cases that are arising and analyze the efforts of courts and others to navigate the problems that arise from the increasing virtualization of social life. This Essay aims to do that, providing a series of real-life case studies that any consideration of 21st century conflict-of-laws jurisprudence must face.

This article discusses the role of conflict in society. The main purpose of the study is the confrontation of sociological and political theoretical approaches as two different viewpoints of the same issue, which brings innovation in the crosscut and changes of these relationships in conflict. Democratic rights, economic strength – and how it is distributed – social cohesion, environmental balance and well educated people cannot be separated in today's world. We need more than ever to deal with our common future in a holistic way. The only way democracy will prove itself is through a living relationship between peoples and their governments based on trust, accountability and the determination to deliver practical results. It will also challenge us to look at the evolution of democratic systems and democracy assistance, with particular attention to the impact of changes in the world economy and global communications. It argues for the overriding need to address complexity while always returning to basic principles in practice and process. Right from the beginning, Kongu Nadu was a part of ancient Tamil Nadu. They were also the sons of the soil. The ancient Kongu Country is well known as Kongu Nadu and had commercial contact with the western world during the first few centuries of the Christian era. To substantiate this, more than two thousand Roman Coins were unearthed from important places like Velanthavalam, Anaimalai, Pollachi, Vellalur, Karuvur and Kalyamuthur of Kongu Country ranging from 1st Century B.C to the 4th Century AD. There are many references in the Devaram, Periyapuranam and Paripadal about the twenty highways connecting Kongu Country with Pandya Country facilitating the communication, commercial and military systems with the neighbour states, and so many Significances are there in Kongu Nadu. Though the Kongu Nadu is still populated by mostly agricultural communities, they are still politically and culturally very powerful communities. The Kongu leaders had so much freedom, reverence and respect during all three regions of Pandya, Cholas and Cheras. The people were efficient and had extensive internal as well as foreign contacts.

This thesis seeks to contextualise the approaches of my enquiry into the social life and political potential of collage. In an A-Z glossary format of 26 entries, the thesis explores my experiments with collage-making as the depiction and practice of collectivity and as a methodology of resisting heteropatriarchal and capitalist imperatives. Among the research projects and experimental artworks undertaken in the candidacy period are No Human Being Is Illegal (in all our glory), produced for the 19th Biennale of Sydney; Kampung Kolase, a collage-village in Bandung, Indonesia; the community collage-graffiti work Flowra, the ACT UP memorial collage Floral Clock; an animated collage LYING WOMEN; a suite of still, analogue collage works titled The Venus Variations, an installation against the representation of rape in high art called By The Skin Of Her Teeth, and a number of collage workshops facilitated as laboratories to test the research questions posited here. The thesis does not reach standard closure but develops the conclusion across its multivalent approaches that the tasks set by the research questions demand ongoing and ensemble efforts.

COVID-19 marks a time of social isolation and social change in the lives of many people. While previous literature has focused on the mental health consequences of isolation on young people, our qualitative research aims to explore the lived experiences of adolescents during the pandemic. Based on 10 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with senior year students at the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin, this study seeks to determine whether both the government and school-imposed COVID-measures have impacted the social lives of our participants and to understand how they experience these potential changes. Our research found that students report a significant change in social life, but, in contrast with the existing literature, their experience of this social change is perceived as positive. These positive changes included a reported improvement in social connections, a more conscious use of social media, and the potential for more alone time. By exploring these three themes, our participants' unexpected positivity can be placed into a larger context in which the pandemic is an opportunity to forge more meaningful connections while learning to be more conscious in spending time alone in an "always-on" culture.
