This book explores the problematic relationship between education, social justice and the State, against the background of comparative education research. The book critiques the status quo of stratified school systems, and the unequal distribution of cultural capital and value added schooling. The authors address one of today's most pressing questions: Are social, economic and cultural divisions between the nations, between school sectors, between schools and between students growing or declining?

; The most far-reaching and exhaustive trend in Swedish social work over the last thirty years is functional specialisation, representing a route away from the notion of professional unity and genericism. This is a development that has gained ground incrementally without any active lobbying or distinct proponents. Reorganising towards specialisation may also be understood as an adaptation to external normative pressures and as a way of fostering productivity in times of tightened budgets. Other, and partly intertwined, trends have been the movement towards evidence-based practice and steps in order to implement elements of New Public Management. The country is characterized by extreme and relative poverty that together make up a majority of the population with essential deficiencies for a daily life, without being able to satisfy the genuine aspirations that make up the minimum profile of quality of life, as they are associated with the basic human needs. For quality of life, in the context of a duty to be, it is conceived as access to minimum levels of health, education, housing, nutrition, work and protection against calamities. The quality of life is also associated with freedom, a basic effective consumption and the real possibility of enhancing their human condition. This poverty incapacitates people to participate in economic, cultural and political life; with material deprivations, lack of civil and political rights that guarantee their citizen participation and ignorance of the identities and particularities of gender, ethnicity, religion or preference for social groups.

The resurgence of the discipline of Social Work at the University of Chile in 2014 is undoubtedly a milestone for the profession in our country. We could well say that it marks the end of the dictatorship for the discipline, since despite the years of "recovery of democracy in Chile" in the nineties, only fourteen years later the career was reopened in the emblematic state university. In this sense, this reopening symbolizes the end of a dark period for the discipline. With the advent of the dictatorial regime, the closure, imprisonment, exoneration and disappearance of students, academics and professionals of the university, together with the termination - by decree - of our life as a university profession, helped to exterminate social work.

; The intervention - investigation of the Social Work in the environmental dimension is an area of the knowledge and an ethical - political imperative. In this paper are explained the arguments that base that relation and are presented some challenges that raise these two connotations. For it, the writing emphasizes the need that has the profession to value multiple forms of expression of human life and not human life, resulting of the socio-environmental correlations in diverse scenarios. The approach of some challenges allow to elucidate the immense possibilities that the Social Work has of thinking the environment as an articulatory category in the professional activity. The challenges proposed for the profession are framed in the theoretical and methodological approach of the political ecology and in the concept of sustainability in the environmental dimension. Likewise, the reflection calls on to consider analytical and practical categories of conflict and environmental education for the critical and reflexive action of the relations culture - nature, collective management for the access to natural resources, and finally patrimonial conception of the nature.
