J. Wright's & R. Hamilton's contention that college educated blue-collar workers are as satisfied with their jobs as those without college training is disputed (see SA 28:5/80L0704). The authors: (1) ignored related research that contradicts their findings, (2) neglected consideration of relevant social & political realities, & (3) misinterpreted their own data. In Reply, Richard Hamilton (McGill University, Montreal, Quebec) & James Wright refute each of these claims: Blumberg has distorted the claims of the original study & ignored references to related research in the field, & his presentation of other research findings is selective & misleading. 1 Table. This book explores the complex domain of social reality, asking what this reality is, how it is composed and what its dynamics are in both theoretical and practical terms. Through the examination of some of the most important contemporary theories of social ontology, the book discusses the fundamentals of the discipline and lays the foundations for its development in the political sphere. By analyzing the notion of State and the redesign of ontology, the author argues in favor of a realist conception of the State and shows the reasons why this promotes a better understanding of the dynamics of power and the actualization of a greater justice between generations. This book captures the relationship between different generations within the same political context, and presents it as a necessary condition for the re-definition of the concepts of State and meta-State

Social reality has been, and is, usually appraised on the basis of a structure-process-structure (s-p-s) syndrome. But that attempt may avoid historicity in the course of formation of the initial structure. Therefore, the syndrome should be process-structure-process (p-s-p), which calls for a different conception and methodology. For that attempt, culture acquired a pivotal bearing because structure represents what has happened in history, and that is culture which may be defined as the valorization of capital in human perception and behaviour. The issue of the efficiency of the p-s-p or s-p-s syndrome is not resolved yet. However, it may become very important in the development of sociology in the 21st century.

This book explores the many connections that bioethical thinking has with social reality. Bioethics, if it is to be effective, must engage with and address the actualities of modern life: policies, regulations, markets, opinions, and technological advances. In these original contributions fifteen notable scholars working in the North West of England take on this challenge. The series Values in Bioethics makes available original philosophical books in all areas of bioethics, including medical and nursing ethics, health care ethics, research ethics, environmental ethics, and global bioethics

"To govern is to educate and provide health to the people." Pedro Aguirre Cerda Our country is going through a moment in its history in which it struggles to unshackle itself from the old economic methods, autocratic and based on free competition, channeling its social life into a course of cooperation and well-being covering all social strata. To His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Socialist Party and its ministers, this is the fundamental significance of the Popular Front government, established by the people only a year ago; to reclaim the social wealth and the economic potential of the nation, control it, direct it, foster it in the service of all the inhabitants of the republic, without privileges nor exclusions. Also, and as a consequence, restore for the people, for the working man, his physical vitality, his virility and health, which were once his outstanding qualities; to reacquire the physiological capacity of a strong people, recover its immunity against epidemics; all of which will allow a better performance in national production while also providing a better disposition and spirit to live and appreciate life.
