The conceptualization of the pandemic as a catastrophic event is multifaceted, involving socio-historical and cultural dimensions. The potential answer lies in the observation, that it coincided with the final stages of the First World War, allowing for socio-historical interpretations based on this contextualization. Apart from the overshadowing effect of the First World War, as several resources indicate, the experiences of the 1918 pandemic may have faded from collective memory due to inadequate documentation and reporting. Does this oblivion or silence prevail in Turkish literature?

"Political struggles." American Sociological Association. My emphasis.For a long time, people have made fun of the "social sciences" including economics as pretend sciences. We have "physics envy," they said, but will never really measure up. Well, a lot of social sciences are not pretending to be sciences anymore!There is a lot of attention to the political conformity and censorship going on on campuses, but not enough I think to the similar problems of professional societies and journals.  Professor Savolainen for example doesn't feel particularly "included" these days. Hopefully, the explosion into public consciousness over the last few weeks of just how rotten and politicized academia has become will make this sort of thing look pretty embarrassing by springtime.

Even if one does not find issues regarding data management and research ethics particularly exciting as such, it is necessary to delve into the rules and regulations that underpin the institutionalization of current ethics regimes in the social and cultural sciences. This is part of the basic infrastructure of knowledge production, that scholars need to know so as to be able to operate therein.

Frequent violations of human, labor, and environmental rights continue to impact supply chains globally, with notable prevalence in the Global South, but also in the Global North. The German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (SCDDA, in German: Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz [LkSG]), enacted in 2023, represents significant progress in upholding rights within the context of socio-ecological transformation across value chains. However, the law faces challenges, particularly in terms of its prospective enforcement and the absence of a cohesive link between social and ecological rights. This article provides a commentary and argues that addressing these issues should be a priority.

Er sollte neue Aufmerksamkeit auf die Auswirkungen der vielfältigen und miteinander verknüpften globalen Krisen lenken und Unterstützung für die Umsetzung der Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung auf Regierungsebene generieren. Welche Rolle dabei Konflikt und strukturelle Gewalt für die Dynamiken globaler Krisen wie der Ernährungs- und Klimakrise sowie für die Erreichung der Nachhaltigkeitsziele haben, wird in diesem Beitrag betrachtet.
