Judicial statistics are used by both the sociol'st & the court admin'tor. What will satisfy one may be very unsatisfactory to the other. As this issue of The Annals (No. 328) is devoted to the problems of the courts, the discussion of statistics is centered around their use as a management tool for the court admin'tor. The history of federal judicial statistics is reviewed & a detailed description is given of the statistics that are now collected & published by the Admin've Office of the US Courts. The problems that are faced by the statistician who prepares the statistics & their interpretation & use by court admin'tors conclude the article. AA.
