OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this wok is the exploration of two preponderant dimensions of professional training. MATERIAL AND METHOD: An experimental study was carried out with a non-probabilistic selection of 300 students, considering their insertion in professional practices and social service in organizations allied with the public university. RESULTS: A dual structure of norms and values found with eight indicators explain the formation of job expectations in future professionals. CONCLUSION: The design limited the findings to the research scenario, suggesting the inclusion of other factors as well as the comparison of the model in other vocational training contexts such as the companies that participate in government subsidies to promote the first job in young graduates.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of genomics training workshops for public health professionals and professionals-in-training. Design: A pre- and post-test evaluation design with 3-month follow-up. Setting and Participants: Thirteen genomics training workshops were delivered across Texas to 377 public health professionals and professionals-in-training (66.7% were ethnic minorities). Intervention: Three-hour theory-based, face-to-face genomics training workshops focusing on family health history practice were delivered. Methods: We administered surveys prior to the workshops, immediately post-workshops, and at 3-month follow-up to examine the changes in participants' knowledge, attitudes, intention, self-efficacy, and behavior in adopting genomics into public health practice. Linear mixed modeling analyses were used to analyze the quantitative survey data. A content analysis was also conducted for qualitative survey data analysis. Results: Genomics practice significantly improved among public health professionals at 3-month follow-up ( P < .01). For all participants, knowledge, attitudes, intention, and self-efficacy scores increased significantly immediately post-workshop compared to the pre-workshop scores (all Ps < .01). Knowledge and attitudes scores at the 3-month follow-up remained significantly higher than those scores at the pre-workshop (all Ps < .01). The feedback from workshop participants was positive. Conclusion: Our genomics training workshop is an effective program that can be disseminated at a national level to establish genomic competencies among public health professionals and professionals-in-training in the United States.

The article presents the results of an empirical study conducted through a survey among 123 students studying to become teachers at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridskiˮ. The purpose of the study is to identify the professional values of this target group. The results testify to prevailing postmodern and constructivist professional values, but also fluctuations in the value orientation regarding the active role of the teacher and the student in the learning-teaching process. Responsibility, respect, empathy, professionalism, adaptability, motivation and patience were identified as general professional values.

Providing high quality learning experiences outside the classroom requires professional educators and educational programme designers to continuously improve their knowledge, skills and attitudes toward teaching and learning. This chapter describes long-term professional development courses designed and implemented by botanic gardens across Europe. The programmes were established as part of a European Union funded project (INQUIRE). They were designed to encourage school teachers and botanic garden educators to establish interdisciplinary learning communities. The participants in the course were asked to make their tacit knowledge more explicit, share it and adopt positive attitudes towards theory-based instruction as well as use reflective practice as tools for improving their educational programmes. Learning in a collaborative network is a special mode of knowledge production which values knowledge that is embedded in social structures within and between individuals. To gain more insight into these structures and eventually use this knowledge to scaffold the social process most effectively, Social Network Analysis was used. This approach enables the course instructor to identify particular individuals in the group who are recognised as 'hubs' and 'authorities' by others and therefore impact the whole community. The process of making social interactions visible may help to improve professional development offers in the future.
The professional training of candidates for the teaching practice has become a topic of concern for all those dedicated to it professional, academic and politically. In this sense, it is important to identify the qualities (knowledge, skills and other competencies) which a highly qualified teacher must have. This issue is now more essential since the current convergence policies of the European Union raise more demands and needs in preparing excellent teachers, requiring a thorough study prior to the design of any training proposal. The present work is a clear contribution in this direction; we analyze in detail the professional profile required by the university professor in order to contribute to the training of internationally qualified professionals.
