The agroecology does not yet provide tools and analysis criteria to develop local and regional strategies, where political and institutional aspects play a key role. This article aims to contribute to overcoming these deficiencies by the theoretical foundation of how it should be Agroecology involved in politics. Family farming is the subject. It is through her that already develops agroecology, getting a transition from the model of traditional agriculture, which provides food security for an alternative model. First, it is argued that, as a socio-ecological construction, agro-ecosystems is the product of power relations. Secondly, it shows the close relationship that the dynamics of agro-ecosystems have with politics and therefore the important role they occupy in agroecological transition. Currently you can see that there is very little reflection on the politics of Agroecology. However, the range of agroecological movements and experiences that are held at different levels of both local and regional governments advise the development of political aspects of agro-ecological theory. Finally, a diagnosis attempted under the situation of global food system, in which the context of agroecological experiments must be developed.

This article discusses the existing duality between the terms Earth and world under the of the 21st century ecological crisis. It proposes, from the deconstruction of anthropocentric and ecocentric values, an analysis of the philanthropic/sustainable paradigm, as a way of understanding the interdisciplinary nature of the possible coexistence between Man and Nature. For this, are demonstrated some hierarchical imbalances present in the concession of Western culture proposed by Samuel Huntington, in the ecological imaginary of indigenous communities defended by Zoe Todd, and in the environmental impact of consumer society from the perspective of Patrick Curry, Richard Sylvan, and David Bennett. As a result, the importance of understanding a balance between consumption and production is demonstrated, condemning the elitist anthropocentrism of western communities as the cause and solution of the ecological problem, transversally illustrated from the market and the art world under the conception of the practical uselessness of its existence and given its contribution to a problem of overproduction.

Public debt, government current account saving and primary surplus: analysis of sustainability. On this paper, we propose a change in the primary surplus' target by the government current account saving. That concept excludes public investment from primary surplus. However, of that change has raised a question about if government current account saving represents a sustainable fiscal policy. Thus, this paper analyses if the change in the primary surplus' target by the government current account saving implies a meaning modification on the debt-to-GDP ratio path. The empirical analysis, which is based on Brazilian monthly data for the period 1999-2005, suggests that the change in fiscal target does not mean a lack of sustainability. (Rev Econ Polit/GIGA)

Social-environmental indicators: evolution and perspectives. This article deals with the balance of sustainability indicators and/or sustainable development indicators. Major gaps and blocks - both conceptual and operational - still hinder the socio-environmental governance from avoiding "blind flights". (Rev Econ Polit/GIGA)

During approximately two and a half years the Brazilian economy sustained a trade surplus of about US $ 12 billion. The origin and sustainability of this surplus became one of the main issues on the controversy about the medium and long term growth perspectives of the country. Using the latest data, and comparing 1987 with 1986, this article tries to show that the trade surplus colapse in the second half of 1986 was an aberration, corrected in 1987. The article also tries to explore some of the implications of the country's exceptional capacity to generate high surplus, ending with a brief reference to its position facing the foreign debt

The present paper aims to show that, not only the concept of anarchy cannot be anchored in the author that traditionally has worked as its validator -- Hobbes -- it has no foundation whatsoever, except possibly a mythical one. International anarchy entails an ontological state, not a phenomenological one, of permanent war, of chaos incompatible with the presence of sovereign powers in the international scene. The concept of anarchy, despite the structural aporiae that thwart its sustainability, serves a particular status quo, pursues the preservation of the logic of power internationally and, for that reason alone, it remains an object of affection to those who dictate the rules, as an ideological apparatus that does not bind them. Addressing rural development discussions in Brazil: context and issues of debate. The work analyzes the main theoretical trends and subjects that integrate the recent Brazilian debate about rural development. We argued that the agenda of the rural development in Brazil, on which actively participate scholars, organizations and institutions, have been formulated by the State and the public politics implemented since the beginning of the 1990. Among the factors that had influenced the emergency of the debate about rural development is distinguished the increasing social and political legitimating of family farming and the agrarian reform, the reorientation of the state policies, the increasing sharply political and ideological quarrels with the agribusiness wing and the matters about sustainability. It is also argued that the analytical and interpretative references that have being used by the scholars are still diffuse and varied, but has been capable to influence the policy makers.
