Applies systems theory to social movements (SMs) & analyzes right-wing extremism in Germany as a SM. Approaches which deny that right-wing extremist activities constitute a SM rely on an overly rational, narrow, & normative definition of SMs. The systems theory approach conceptualizes SMs in terms of the reproduction & combination of mobilizing events. Methods & findings from organizational behavior, youth sociology, election research, the study of subcultures, & research on violence help to investigate the taxonomy & dynamics of right-wing extremism. It is concluded that right-wing activities can be interpreted as a SM that is symbolically integrated around the question of immigration. Adapted from the source document.

Provides a taxonomy of multinational movement organizations, sorting out the concepts of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), nonprofit organizations, & the third sector. Multinational organizations are defined as networks of social movement-related groups that both thematically & structurally cross national boundaries. They are characterized structurally by whether they have international, transnational, or supranational character, & by whether they have closed/central or open/decentral organizational & competitive patterns. The conditions under which NGOs are growing in acceptance & status in both policy making & media arenas are analyzed. Also considered are NGOs' primary structural problems: competition, conflict, bureaucracy, & commercialization. A thematic breakdown of NGOs 1953-1993 is included. 2 Tables, 14 References. In June 1997, we were sitting Semen Simmel lectures at the Humboldt-Universitat Berlin often in a nearby cafe and discussed about Semen lecture about developments in Germany before and after 1990, and over the local political science. Here, the conversation came to semen essay about totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, EC text of over 300 pages, in the investigated Juan Linz non-democratic political systems in the 20th century. The methodological clarity and intellectual sovereignty, developed a taxonomy of ideal types of political rule with the Linz based less empirically verifiable parameters, fascinated us. Especially since this system was coined by the pure pursuit of scientific knowledge, so get along completely without ideological foundation, legitimation offset pieces and the intellectual resentment of the Cold War. (Autorenreferat)
