Numerical Ecology with R provides a long-awaited bridge between a textbook in Numerical Ecology and the implementation of this discipline in the R language. After short theoretical overviews, the authors accompany the users through the exploration of the methods by means of applied and extensively commented examples. Users are invited to use this book as a teaching companion at the computer. The travel starts with exploratory approaches, proceeds with the construction of association matrices, then addresses three families of methods: clustering, unconstrained and canonical ordination, and spatial analysis. All the necessary data files, the scripts used in the chapters, as well as the extra R functions and packages written by the authors, can be downloaded from a web page accessible through the Springer web site (http://www.bio.umontreal.ca/numecolR/). Welche gleichstellungspolitischen Wirkungen haben Juniorprofessuren im Vergleich zu dem bisherigen Qualifikationsweg zu einer Professur? Diese Frage verfolgte das Kompetenzzentrum Frauen in Wissenschaft und Forschung CEWS mit einer Studie, die 2005/06 für das Ministerium für Innovation, Wissenschaft, Forschung und Technologie des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen durchgeführt wurde. Neue Erkenntnisse gegenüber anderen Untersuchungen wurden zum einen durch einen Vergleich der beiden wichtigsten Qualifikationswege für eine Professur, die Juniorprofessur und die Beschäftigung als C1-Assistent/in, sowie durch einen konsequenten Geschlechtervergleich erwartet. Zentraler Focus ist dabei, ob und inwieweit bei den beiden zu untersuchenden Qualifikationswegen Strukturen und Hindernisse im Wissenschaftsbetrieb geschlechtsspezifisch unterschiedlich wirksam werden.

Wie sieht eine geschlechtergerechte Hochschule aus? Die Organisationsklimaanalyse der Beuth Hochschule für Technik Berlin zeigt anhand der Untersuchung von Berufswegen von Professorinnen relevante Aspekte einer geschlechtergerechten Hochschulkultur auf. Die Studie liefert so gleichzeitig Ansatzpunkte und mögliche Maßnahmen für die Verbesserung des Frauenanteils an technischen Hochschulen. Die Unterrepräsentanz von Professorinnen im Wissenschaftssystem wird seit langem erforscht. Studien, speziell über die Berufswege von Professorinnen an technischen Hochschulen, sind selten; Ergebnisse entsprechend wenig evidenzbasiert. Mit dieser Studie soll exemplarisch für eine technische Hochschule die Frage geklärt werden, was relevante Aspekte einer geschlechtergerechten Hochschulkultur sind und ob diese Ansatzpunkte liefern können, um die Frauenanteile an technischen Hochschulen zu verbessern. Hierfür wurde eine Organisationsklimaanalyse an der Beuth Hochschule für Technik Berlin durchgeführt und geschlechterdifferenziert ausgewertet. Dabei zeigte sich, dass Professorinnen und Professoren viele Aspekte des Organisationsklimas ähnlich einschätzen. Es konnten jedoch auch Unterschiede festgestellt werden. So ist es den befragten Professorinnen wichtiger zu forschen und sie geben häufiger an, aufgrund ihrer persönlichen Verpflichtungen auf berufliche Aktivitäten verzichten zu müssen. Gleichzeitig waren sie aber nicht der Meinung, dass die sogenannten Care-Aufgaben sie in ihrer Karriereentwicklung behindert hätten. Bereits die kleine Stichprobe der Studie führte zu aufschlussreichen Ergebnissen und ersten Anregungen, wie geschlechterspezifische Diskriminierung abgebaut und eine geschlechtergerechte Hochschulorganisation aufgebaut werden kann.

Agile Performance Improvement demonstrates the mutual benefits that accrue to the worlds of performance consulting and agile software development when the values and principles of both are blended synergistically under the guidance of practitioners skilled in both. The agile performance improvement model blends the principles of human performance technology with the frameworks and practices of Agile.
