Over the last decade, commentaries and research on urban tourism precincts have predominantly focused on: their role in the tourism attractions mix; their physical and functional forms; their economic significance; their role as a catalyst for urban renewal; their evolution and associated development processes; and, perhaps more broadly, their role, locality and function within the context of urban planning. City Spaces - Tourist Places both consolidates and develops the extant knowledge of urban tourism precincts into a coherent research driven contemporary work. It revisits and examines the foundational literature but, more importantly, engages with aspects of precinct development that have previously been either underdeveloped or received only limited consideration, such as the psychological and socio-cultural dimensions of the precinct experience. Written by an international team of contributors it provides the reader with: * A comprehensive analysis of foundational theory and cutting-edge advances in the knowledge of the precinct phenomenon * An examination of previously underdeveloped topics and themes based on contemporary and ground-breaking research * Typological and theoretical frameworks in which to locate precinct form, function and experience Brilliantly edited to ensure theoretical continuity and coherence City Spaces - Tourist Places is vital reading for anyone involved in the study or planning of urban tourism precincts. * A cutting-edge text which not only examines foundational theory in urban studies but advances knowledge of the precinct phenomenon by its engagement of previously underdeveloped topics * Vital reading for anyone involved in the study or planning of urban tourism * Written by an international team of expert contributors and brilliantly edited to ensure theoretical continuity and accessiblity
"Volunteering and political activism are two key forms of civic engagement. There is a broad consensus that civic engagement, which often involves participation in various forms of collective action, is a cornerstone of a well-functioning democracy. Civic engagement and participation in collective action have traditionally been linked to social movements and voluntary organizations. Collective action is, however, changing as a result of societal- level processes of change, such as digitalization, the emergence of social media, individualization and globalization.
This book investigates how these social changes have affected the ways individuals participate in different forms of collective action. What consequences does digitalization have for civic engagement in Norway? Is the distinction between volunteering and political activism about being wiped out? Are new organizational forms arising as a result of digitalization and individualization? Has globalization led to new forms of transnational networks? And more generally, are the traditional forms of collective action, rooted in civil society organizations, replaced by a new form of ""connective action""? Based on a variety of data sources, including survey data, case studies and in-depth interviews, the authors paint a broad picture of how different forms of collective action and civic engagement in Norway are influenced by processes of social change.
The analyzes in this book are based on a five-year research project within the Center for Research on Civil Society and Voluntary Sector, funded by the Ministry of Culture. The book presents the project's main findings in an edited volume with contributions from an interdisciplinary team of authors."
The Cologne Commentary on Space Law is a three-volume annotation on the written norms of space law as enunciated through the Treaties of the United Nations and its General Assembly Resolutions. The evolution of a considerable body of international space legislation has been supplemented with various national space laws and regulations in order to implement the international legal framework in the practice of space business. The Cologne Commentary on Space Law aims to provide a genuine and concrete contribution to awareness-building on Space Law and to its implementation in practice. The present publication is the Russian translation of the chapter on NPS Principles (UNGA Resolution 47/68 of 14 December 1992) and the NPS Safety Framework of CoCoSL Volume III. Those 1992 Principles relevant to the use of Nuclear Power Sources in Outer Space and the Safety Framework for Nuclear Power Source Applications in Outer Space (UNGA A/AC.105/934 of 19 May 2009) are the relevant norms for deep space missions using NPS sources. The idea of a Russian publication of the annotated NPS norms was initiated by team members of the EU funded European-Russian DEMOCRITOS project from the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation "Research Center named after M.V. Keldysh" in Moscow and the German Aerospace Center DLR. In the frame of the DEMOCRITOS project, for the first time, the International Nuclear Power and Propulsion Systems (INPPS) flagship was designed. This demonstrates the practical relevance of the NPS technologies and of the relevant NPS norms. The effectiveness of the international legal framework depends on its national implementation and the focal point here is the practical side of project management. This is in line with the long-term sustainability of outer space activities
"The book discusses various challenges and solutions related to the coordination of health and welfare services. Coordination is central to creating integrated services for users with complex needs. In order to understand the challenges and opportunities associated with creating such services, one needs knowledge related to organizations and the organizational context. The book's chapters takes on an organizational perspective where patterns and explanations are sought in formal and informal structures, processes and culture.
The users' need for services often cross established boundaries, both organizational and professional. The authors highlight the possibilities and limitations of some selected solutions that will help to cut across or break down such boundaries. Examples of such solutions are user involvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, team organizations, coordinators, standardization and patient pathways, digitization and decision-making tools for employees who work in the services. One chapter summarizes three different theoretical research approaches for analyzing coordination and collaboration.
The target group is researchers, university and college employees and students of the health and welfare sector. The book also will be of interest for user organizations as well as administrative and professional decision-makers in public and private businesses."
