The tension between individual and collective interests and the provision of sanctioning mechanisms have been identified as important building blocks of a theory of norm emergence. Correspondingly, most investigations focus on how social norms emerge through explicit bargaining and social exchange to overcome this tension, and how sanctions enforce norm compliance. However, sanctioning presupposes the existence of the behavior at which it is directed, and the question of how behavior worth sanctioning can emerge tacitly if communication is not possible has hitherto received little attention. Here, we argue that game theory offers an ideal framework for theorizing about emergent behavioral regularities and show how latent norms can emerge from actors' recurring encounters in similar social dilemmas. We conduct two experiments in which small groups of subjects interact repeatedly in a volunteer's dilemma. We vary the heterogeneity of group members in terms of their costs of cooperation and the way they encounter each other in subsequent interactions. Our results show that subjects in homogeneous groups take turns at cooperating, whereas in heterogeneous groups mostly the subjects with the lowest costs cooperate. The emergence of solitary cooperation is moderated by the way subjects encounter each other again and their other-regarding preferences.

Maintenance of samples of weapons is carried out at the stages of their life cycle and is carried out on the basis of coordination of actions of the customer and the consumer with a wide range of organizations from the main developer to the co-executors, which does not exclude the occurrence of conflict situations. This leads to the problem of implementing the optimal synthesis of such a complex system and does not allow to direct efforts to achieve the extremum of the target function of the system as a whole. Therefore, the emergence of such a problem and the existing conflicts in the process of determining the means of providing arms to military formations is considered as a complex organizational system, and the difficulties of direct solution of the problem of optimal synthesis in this case are related to: the interconnections of a complex system (between systems of the lower level and elements of the system); limited programming abilities; the construction of a mathematical model, etc.; and cause the need to find solutions to this problem.
The methods developed at present allow analytically to calculate the technical perfection of the weapons samples that are considered for providing military formations, as investigated when choosing for procurement or development. Such tasks are deterministic, but, considering costs at all stages of the life cycle, there may be stochastic (probable ones) that can be solved by expert methods. At present, the list and content of the source data when choosing ways of providing weapons are not defined at all stages. Thus, having them strictly non-formalized, the statement of the problem of synthesis is carried out under conditions of uncertainty, which in most cases is solved by heuristic methods, which in turn allows elements of subjectivity.
Having determined the list and content of the initial data, it is possible to pre-implement the calculations in cost form (strictly mathematical) in the form of expenses, having carried out the projection of expenditures at the stage of the weapon's life cycle, and such a list to be chosen according to the criterion of the problem of synthesis, while defining the criteria of the restrictions, and to use these data for assessing the quality of this type of weapons and the cost of the stages of their life cycle. Also, in case of incomplete receipt of such data in cost form, with their partial, such an assessment will allow to determine between the corresponding methods when solving the problem of choosing ways of providing arms in the medium term. Even if this method is not analytical, then the relevant statistics will help to reduce the degree of uncertainty and subjectivism when choosing ways to provide armed skills by expert means.

Despite the high rates of participation in sports clubs among Finnish youth, only a few reach elite levels. This study investigated a number of motivational factors, enjoyment, and perceived physical competence perceptions of Finnish youth athletes in their adolescence and then four years later to help understand determinants of elite level attainment. The sample consisted of 824 young athletes born in 1995, who were playing soccer, ice hockey, or basketball in the Finnish sports club system. As youths, participants completed measurements of the perceived task and ego climates, task and ego goal orientations, autonomous and controlled motivations, amotivation, sport enjoyment, and perceived physical competence. Retrospectively, the same participants completed measurements of task, ego, social relatedness, and autonomy supportive climates four years later. All variables were compared to self-reported elite status attainment. Additionally, we examined some demographic characteristics. Prospectively, the self-reported elite athletes (n = 79) reported significantly (p < 0.05) higher perceptions of a task climate, perceived physical competence, sport enjoyment, and autonomous motivation and a lower level of amotivation compared to nonelite athletes. The meaningfulness (Hedges' g) of the significant differences ranged from small to moderate. Retrospectively, elite athletes indicated significantly (p < 0.05) higher perception of a task climate and a social relatedness climate during their sporting career. Hedges' g ranged from moderate to large in meaningfulness. The findings highlighted the importance of focusing on the positive aspects surrounding elite athletes' perceptions to promote youth athletes' development, while not discounting the importance of physical size and talent.

This report presents the results, methodology, and lessons learned for the Citadel-DMACC group concerning the 9th Global Trajectory Optimization Competition. As first-time entrants, the focus was on developing a fundamental understanding of the project scope and problem approach, while utilizing this competition format as an opportunity for undergraduate research, and in this instance, specifically for a first-year engineering student. The optimization strategy that was utilized focused on the debris selection process. Initial debris target selection was centered on possible orbital intersections between an initial debris orbit and the instantaneous orbital projection generated from another target debris at a given time step. This report will discuss two target selection processes and their applicability to the problem. Lessons learned from how to approach the problem are presented here along with an analysis on the reasons behind the team's failure to provide a successful submission.

In studying the relationship between individualism–collectivism and team performance, empirical research has shown that individualistic team members exert a negative influence on team performance. However, theoretical understanding of why this relationship exists is lacking. Addressing this gap in the literature, this research proposes a theoretical model of the relationship between individualism–collectivism and team performance by integrating two previously distinct theories, social identity theory and the social relations model. Drawing upon these theories, we propose that team identification, meta-perception accuracy, and team identity will mediate the relationship between individualism–collectivism and team performance. Further, we posit that task interdependence will moderate the relationship between individualism–collectivism and team identifi-cation. In developing our work, we formulate testable propositions which are aligned with the specific relationships shown in our model. After presenting our model and propositions, we discuss the theoretical and practical implications of our work, and suggest areas for future research.
