Our research in the South Korean daily life have led us again to explicitly served typologies. As architects particularly the three clearly articulated living types we noticed - radically from each other delimiting blueprints regarding scale, materiality and understanding of space. Reviewing recent literature on the nature of crime reveals the necessity for transferring theoretical emphasis from broad classes of behavior to unitary concepts &, thus, directing attention 'toward the creation of analytical types of crime within the larger category, be the larger category defined by criminal law or by conduct norms.' The functioning of, & need for, the analytical approach is illustrated by res into 4 types (active, inactive, passive, aggressive) of slayers & of victims in Fort Worth, Tex, 1946-50. It is concluded that, 'although the practice of defining crime in legal terms rather than conduct norms should be continued, the legalistic approach will have to be supplemented with typological analysis.' Anthony D. Smith in Theories of Nationalism (New York, 1971) has presented a typology of nationalism in which he distinguishes between modern (or polycentric) nationalism, developed since the French Revolution, & ethnocentric nationalism, the type characteristic of ancient & medieval society. Smith's ethnocentric version is challenged, as it appears to contradict the concept of nationalism in his own definition -- & in the thinking of most historians -- that 'nation' is largely a development of the eighteenth century, & that ancient & medieval worlds were more "theocentric," more collectivities of peoples than of nation-states. The general uselessness of attempting to discuss world history through a typology of nationalism is maintained. D. Dunseath.
In the author's view, the present Islamic resurgence is a response to an environment of deepening social crisis which possesses at least six dimensions constituting the catalysts that evoke fundamentalist reactions: identity crisis, legitimacy crisis, misrule/coercion, economic crisis, military impotence and culture crisis. Varieties of Islamic resurgence, trends and prospects. (DÜI-Hns)
