Disaster movies have been a staple fare of Hollywood since the 1930s. However from the 1980s, it began to assume the categorical imperative of a 'genre' having its own structured norms. Typologies of disaster movies vary from the unabashedly pyrotechnical to the cerebral. The aim of this article is to analyze the idea of disaster in Hollywood disaster films as events that are human-constituted. This is done by reading Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy as texts that represent different types of the anarchic world view. Therefore, the focus of this article would be to read 'anarchy-as-disaster' in the context of the trilogy. The three films appear to have typologies of the anarchic world view that could be classified into three broad categories: 'anarchy as cleansing', 'anarchy for chaos for the sake of chaos' and 'anarchy as emancipation'. This study attempts to read Nolan's trilogy as cultural products that are able to generate fear of impending disasters brought upon Western industrialized society by certain inscrutable forces. In underscoring the politics of representation, the three films appear to emphasize values that are 'liberal' (democracy, capitalism, liberalism) as opposed to 'conservative' (socialism, radicalism, religious fundamentalism), the latter being dismissed off as obsolete alternatives. The problematic of urban space, technology fetishism and their role in re-packaging disaster mediated through tools (disaster movies) of popular culture will constitute the major premises of this study.

La nappe phréatique de la Beauce est intensément exploitée notamment pour les usages agricoles. Ceux-ci sont soumis depuis 1999 à un système de gestion volumétrique basé sur la définition d'un quota individuel pondéré par la hauteur de la nappe. Or ce système commence à montrer ses limites : en 2008 les agriculteurs ne pouvaient disposer que de 45% de leur volume annuel. Le travail demandé constitue la première phase d'un projet de modélisation micro-économique visant à représenter le comportement des exploitants agricoles de la Beauce suivant différents scénarios de gestion de l'eau. L'objectif de ce travail est d'établir une typologie des exploitations à partir de laquelle sera effectuée la modélisation. Cette typologie est effectuée à partir de données publiques (Registre Parcellaire Graphique). Ce registre cartographie les îlots percevant des aides du premier pilier de la Politique Agricole Commune. La localisation des forages agricoles est fournie par l'Agence de l'Eau Loire-Bretagne. L'analyse statistique faite à partir de ces données conduit à définir 9 types d'exploitations basés sur leur assolement et leur structure. Parallèlement, une carte de la réserve utile en eau des sols est réalisée. Cette carte représentant la quantité d'eau du sol disponible pour les cultures sera utilisée par le modèle Pilote, afin de déterminer les rendements des cultures selon plusieurs scénarios climatiques ou de gestion de l'eau. Ces résultats seront aussi intégrés dans la modélisation micro-économique.

This article draws on a three‐year collaborative research project investigating how community consultation is practised by Victorian councils, especially in relation to multiple publics and groups that councils can find 'hard to reach'. Based on an analysis of consultation documents, this article looks at councils' understanding of community consultation and underlying assumptions, the expected outcomes and how this is translated into guidance for practice. The research demonstrates that councils aim to consult to provide a range of outcomes, but there is a lack of clarity about how to choose and use the appropriate combination of consultation tool(s) and public(s) to facilitate these. Councils are also unclear about how the outcomes of consultation feed into existing decision‐making processes and the implications of this for democratic legitimacy. This is in part due to the fact that the conceptual tensions around consultation and the democratic process are apparent not so much by virtue of what is said about them, but of what is not said. The article begins by outlining the conceptual and definitional problems associated with consultation using typologies of public participation. We investigate how typologies inform the consultation documents developed by councils and in how far they support practice. We then address the need to involve multiple publics and the vexed issue of who is hard to reach and why they should be consulted.

Ziel dieses Beitrag ist die Herausarbeitung einer präziseren Definition des Terrorismus anhand eines Minimalsatzes an Kriterien (Teil 1). Sodann werden verschiedene Typologien des Terrorismus diskutiert, mit Schwerpunkt auf substaatlichem politischem Terrorismus (Teil 2). Anschließend wird ein Kausalmodell des Terrorismus auf vier Erklärungsebenen entwickelt, von der individuellen über die Gruppen- und Organisationsebene bis zur staatlichen und globalen Ebene. Kausale Zusammenhänge zwischen den einzelnen Ebenen werden erörtert (Teil 3). Einige Folgerungen aus einer solchen Differenzierung der Formen des politischen Terrorismus und unterschiedlicher Erklärungsebenen für "angemessene" Reaktionen auf die jeweilige Form des Terrorismus wie auch die Terrorismusforschung allgemein werden abschließend (Teil 4) behandelt. Der Autor spricht sich für eine stärkere Disaggregierung der internationalen Datensätze nach den unterschiedlichen Formen des politischen Terrorismus aus. Dies hat deutliche Folgen für die empirische Theoriebildung wie auch politische Antwortmuster. ; The aim of the present article is to derive a more precise definition of political terrorism based on a minimal set of criteria (part 1). In part 2 typologies of violence are at issue with an emphasis on sub-state groups and political terrorism. Thereafter (part 3) a multi-level causal model is developed. This model emphasizes different levels of explanation, from the individual level via the group level and the state level to the global level. Also a few examples of causal relationships to be derived from such a model are given. Part 4 deals with some political conclusions to be obtained from more disaggregated analyses of political terrorism and the impact such analyses might have on terrorism research. The author strongly pleads for breaking down cross-national datasets according to type of terrorism and for paying more attention to the specific characteristics of different forms of political terrorism, both in analysis and in reacting to it.

Les pratiques culturales des exploitants du Centre Cameroun en cacaoculture demeurent mal connues. Pour combler cette lacune, 1.428 exploitations agricoles ont été enquêtées dans quatre départements de la province du Centre, différenciables par le type de cacaoculture qui y prévaut. Des typologies d'exploitants, basées sur les itinéraires techniques en cacaoculture, ont été construites. Trois échelles d'analyse ont été considérées : la province, le département et le village. Cette étude a confirmé la diversité des systèmes de cacaoculture qui existent au Centre Cameroun. L'analyse exploratoire multidimensionnelle a montré que les liaisons entre les variables considérées varient fortement d'un département à l'autre, les niveaux d'intensification en intrants et en travail étant toutefois les déterminants majeurs du rendement des cacaoyères. Quatre à cinq classes d'exploitants, se distinguant entre elles en fonction des variables étudiées, ont été mises en évidence à chaque échelle d'analyse. Sur le plan méthodologique, la méthode de classification adoptée pour construire les typologies a confirmé son intérêt. Elle a montré que l'analyse des données à l'échelle des villages relativise les résultats observés au niveau des départements en permettant d'identifier le système de cacaoculture dominant d'un village donné. Cette approche a donc permis une meilleure appréciation des similitudes entre les différentes zones de production, similitudes que le découpage administratif ou géographique tend à occulter. Elle a confirmé qu'il est indispensable d'accompagner les producteurs de cacao en tenant compte de la diversité des situations.

The post-positivist domination of planning theory in recent years has rightly highlighted the social and political context of theories. Its impact through various guises including collaborative, postmodern and neo-pragmatic approaches has been significant. However, one area that has been immune to these broad changes and interpretations is typologies of planning. Typologies provide heuristics for academics and practitioners that help map the landscape of ideas that influence a particular field. As such they are crucial to any understanding of a diverse theoretical area such as planning. This article seeks to develop a post-positivist typology for planning theory. My typology is based upon the broad themes of post-positivism including the belief that all theory is to greater or lesser degrees normative, a non-linear conception of time and progress and the introduction of spatial and temporal variance in any understanding of the formulation, interpretation and application of theory. The result is an approach that does away with two traditional planning theory dualisms - the procedural-substantive distinction and the theory-practice gap. It also provides a locally diverse and unique interpretation of planning theory at the national and sub-national scale that rejects the idea that local interpretation of theories and their application can be assumed to be consistent with ideas operating at a higher (often supra-national) scale.

Ausgehend von der Fragestellung, welchen Einfluss Moscheen, Kindertagesstätten und Schulen, aber auch die Peers, Medien und die Gesellschaft auf die religiöse Sozialisation von muslimischen Kindern haben, rückt Ayse Uygun-Altunbas erstmalig muslimische Familien ins Zentrum der Analyse und greift hierzu die Perspektive der Eltern auf.
