Purpose This paper aims to learn about consumers' information disclosing patterns in the mobile internet context by investigating how demographic, geographic and psychological factors influence their information disclosing willingness (IDW).Design/methodology/approach Drawing on self-disclosure theory, the authors carried out simple linear regression analyses on a Chinese sample of 10,000 participants.Findings The results revealed that significant gender differences exist between males and females in their IDW in mobile internet context, and females have higher IDW than males do. And the authors also found that first-tier (third tier) citizens have the lowest (highest) IDW in their mobile internet usage.Originality/value This study offers three implications. First, this paper captures the insight of IDW within the mobile internet context, while previous studies mostly focus on the desktop internet context. Second, the results show that females have higher willingness to disclose than males do in the context of mobile internet, which is different from the findings of prior studies that females have higher privacy concerns and lower disclosing willingness in the context of desktop internet. Thirdly, this research introduces city tiers as a new approach to the study of IDW, which is one of the first studies exploring the geographical effect on information privacy.

This article presents the concept of service workers' willingness to report service complaints (WRC) and examines frontline workers' discretion about reporting customer complaints in two qualitative studies and a quantitative study. The qualitative studies conceptualize WRC based on a critical incident technique and interviews with service providers and reveal that service providers practice much discretion in their decision to report both informal and formal complaints, weighing cost/ benefit considerations, customer motivation and complaint justification, and numerous organizational and other factors. The quantitative study examines a preliminary WRC scale and its relationship with several correlates and shows that WRC levels are associated with measures of organizational citizenship behavior, service climate, and empowerment. The discussion examines the contribution of the findings regarding WRC to research on service recovery and improving customer satisfaction and presents managerial implications.

We report on experiments to replicate Plott and Zeiler's (2005) findings that the WTP-WTA gap disappears when using procedures that are aimed at reducing misunderstandings, such as training rounds for the BDM mechanism. Following the design by Plott and Zeiler (2005) and Isoni, Loomes, and Sugden (2011) who re-ran the Plott/Zeiler experiments to study the paid practice rounds with lotteries, we replicate the findings from the lottery tasks where a WTP-WTA gap is present in all studies. However, unlike in the two previous studies the WTP-WTA gap does not disappear in the main task where subjects state their WTA or WTP for a mug. We introduce two additional lottery tasks to classify subjects and find that even for the most rational group of subjects who never make dominated choices in the paid practice rounds, the WTP-WTA gap in the mug task exists. The findings are replicated in a similar experiment with USB sticks instead of mugs. (author's abstract)

The Philippines is struggling between increasing fishery production and conserving its coastal and marine resources. The problem also extends to protection initiatives suitable to the needs of local resource users. The concern for sustaining production and the environment, however, can be pursued through policy evaluation and stronger community participation in coastal resource management (CRM) programs. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the potential participation of coastal communities in Lupon to local CRM efforts. Policies affecting communities' use of coastal resources were determined as well as the community's awareness of the policies, factors affecting participation in CRM efforts, and strategies to protect coastal resources. The policies were gathered through government agencies, online reports, and journal articles while primary data were gathered through household interviews. Descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses were employed to assess community awareness of the regulations and the factors affecting willingness. Findings revealed community awareness to regulations that have direct impacts to their livelihood and positive views on participating in CRM initiatives. The logit regression further indicated important predictors of participation, which included sex, age, boat ownership, perceived effectivity of regulations, and awareness of CRM efforts. More conservation strategies should be introduced to the communities such as creation of artificial reefs. More government efforts should also be done in the enforcement and dissemination of information and regulations, which may be through increased visibility of authorities, stricter penalties for violators, or seminars. This research also suggested the participation of nongovernment organizations and the academe for the success of CRM programs.

In many areas such as consumer law or competition law, legislators can opt between two alternative forms of sanctions to remedy wrongdoing: they can impose an infringer to pay either a fine or a compensation. There is a major research gap regarding the infringers' reactions to the different forms of sanctions. This paper reports an experiment that investigated infringers' willingness to pay compensation versus fines. Results show that regardless of victim characteristics (whether the victim is a company or an NGO), infringers are willing to pay higher amounts in compensation than in fines, view compensation as more fair and believe compensation is better able to restore their reputation. Compensation and fines did not differ in the extent to which they stimulated infringers' willingness to take precautionary measures. Participants who inflicted harm to a company rather than an NGO, surprisingly viewed their sanction as more fair, irrespective of the type of sanction in place. Our findings highlight some important strengths of compensation from a infringer's point of view that are to be weighed in the policy debate.
