In this article we will deal with the analysis of the language spoken by the Italians in Istria, and since it is not just the standard Italian language, the subject of our research included more Croatian and Istrian dialect (called istro-veneto). We will observe the development of Italian language in the period from the second half of the 20th century to modern times, because it was the time of the biggest change. After the Second World War when the Italians in Istria reported to a complex minority, because they thought that their language had no social role, and bilingualism was viewed in purely negative terms by the 60s of last century, which further affected the manner of use Italian as a mother tongue in non-core countries, in this case in Croatia and Slovenia. In addition to the general sociolinguistic display position of Italians in Istria and Rijeka in this paper we consider the language and the mentality of the people in novels of Nelida Milani, who was able to describe very accurately and thoroughly their social position and psychological state in different roles and sociological contexts.
Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić - literary poetic, nation and language Ivo Andrić (1892-1975) was Yugoslav writer and Nobel Prize winner for Literature ("Bridge on the Drina", 1961). All Yugoslav nations at the beginning accepted that Andrić primarily belongs to the literary tradition of Serbs. Except historical aspect of his novels, which includes Andrić in this tradition, and his long political connection with Serbian (/Yugoslav) state (proserbian youth organization in Austro-Hungaria and later his high political position in Kingdom of Yugoslavia) - in this article I specially paid attention to Andrić's language. It is well known that Andrić, though he was liekavian (bom in Travnik, Bosnia), by the time completely accepted ekavian variant of Serbian literary language. It's base is in one of the most representative dialect of Serbs, which 1s spoken in the greatest part of Serbia today. (Serbs in Western Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Monte Negro and Croatia are exclusive iekavian.) There were probably more reasons which led Andrić to give up Serbian iekavian and to switch to Serbian ekavian - sociolinguistic, stylistic, even political reason, which are analyzed in this article. Political crisis in Yugoslavia last decades, and even civil war (1991-1999), announced not only dividing the territory among the new states, but also dividing previous Yugoslav culture, specially among Serbs, Croats and Muslims (Bosniaks). These political and military conflicts were ended by foreign political and military (NATO) intervention against Serbs, especially in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which also ought to has shown that Serbs and their nationalism caused disintegration of Yugoslavia. Thus, global policy has become one of the main arbiters in dividing Yugoslav heritage among new states, including literature and language. Therefore, in some new articles, especially on different internet-sites, Andrić is not presented anymore as Serbian (or Serbo-Croatian/Yugoslav) writer, and his language ts not presented anymore as ...

ON PROFESSOR BELIC'S LINGUISTICS IN THE LIGHT OF SCIENTIFIC-POLITICAL PARADIGMS The paper analyses the possible influences of the sociopolitical setting on the scholarly work of Aleksandar Beli¢ (1876—1960), a renowned Yugoslav and Serbian linguist whose activity marked the first half of the 20" century. Beli¢'s specialisation in dialectology could not remain separate from the national and political interests of the country where he lived, inasmuch as it was often going through decisive historical moments at the time. Regarding the Macedonian question, Beli¢ frequently took the stance which he coordinated with the political trends of the state in which he worked and wrote. Certainly, there are a number of linguistic topics related to Beli¢'s work that require a sort of revision and that have to be viewed in the light of his political commitment. For instance, such is the matter of the nature of the Dubrovnik speech, the matter of division of the so-called "Stokavian" speeches ...

ON THE EXTERNAL STANDARDIZATION OF THE LANGUAGE OF SERBS The weakening of the SFRY (Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia) which was followed by its dissolution, had an impact on a wide range of issues, one of them being the degradation of the so called Serbo-Croatian language. Not only did the external political influences contribute to the dissolution of the SFRY, but they also play a part in the linguistic profiling of new standard varieties today. However, as the dissolution of Yugoslavia couldn't have been imagined without consequences for Serbs primarily, the transformation of the "Serbo-Croatian" language into a series of new language norms-successors of the old ones, cannot take place without challenging the rights of the great number of Serbs who live outside of Serbia. These are the rights that primarily refer to the linguistic and social identity — therefore the national identity. The best illustration of this are the external influences in the domain of linguistic engineering today, and these influences can basically be divided into extensive (e. g. commercials, radio and TV programmes) and intensive (textbooks, handbooks etc). The aim of this study is the analysis ...
