Abstract
This paper tackles the question of how to handle the phenomenon of "religion" by widely secularized judicial systems by analyzing the "Equal Liberty"-concept from legal scholars Eisgruber and Sager. While they assume that everything worth protecting is already covered by existing anti-discrimination laws, freedom of expression and association, and judge the right to religious freedom as itself discriminatory, this paper considers how this right can be part of an emancipatory human rights approach, which helps us think beyond an antagonistic relationship between religious freedom and other human rights.
In the context of a pluralistic religious life, freedom of religion and religious conversion are the two entities that cannot be separated. I argues that the death penalty for the perpetrators of apostate is not relevant to the recent development. The scholars differ on the punishment for the perpetrators of apostate. Scholars who interpret prophetic texts declare the death penalty for apostasy, basing his argument that religious conversions are theological issues which are not negotiable. Scholars who consider apostasy from the socio-political perspective argue that the emergence of Hadith about the death penalty for apostasy is not only meant for riddah who move from Islam to another religion but also for politician who edanger the nation. The number of facts at the time showed that the phenomenon of apostasy is always associated with the issue of treason (bughat), endangering the country and hostility against Muslims. In addition, psychologically, apostasy is also the demolition of old religious tradition to a new religious tradition. This could lead to psychological confusion and mental turmoil for perpetrators of apostasy.

AbstractConsidering that the brain is involved in human thinking, feeling and behaviour, we must also ask the question of whether finding neural correlates of religious experience is not just a matter of time. The questions 'if' and 'how' human brain responds to or generates religious experience capture the interest of researchers from various fields of science. Their joint efforts and scientific discourse lead to implementation of bold interdisciplinary research projects, with a far-reaching goal of explaining the mystery of faith and religion. Studies conducted at the meeting point of empirical and theological sciences raise controversies and criticism. Examples include the discussions on natural and theological experiments, collectively called neurotheology.

"From the images carved and painted to the buildings edified, from liturgical objects to reliquaries and tombs, from books to personal objects of piety, this book reflects the many domains where the relation between materiality and devotion can be a prospect and a problem. It intersects the material, functional, performative, and aesthetic dimensions with the different readings it calls for, the cognitive and emotional apprehensions, the representations (erudite and popular) it associates with, the practices that it sustains, the memories that polarize and legitimize, the powers that were affirmed through it. It discloses the diversity of variants such as wealth and social position, literate training, and gender differences"--
