In this article the author investigates and analyzes the international legal experience in protecting of the rights, freedoms and the legitimate interests of participants in the criminal proceedings. The question of international legal protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of participants in criminal proceedings is one of the most acute in the problem under investigation. Since there are legislative gaps, insufficient guarantees of human rights and freedoms, a citizen who not only complicates the work of law enforcement agencies and courts, but also negatively influences over the image of the state in the international arena. The specifics of international organizations stated in the paper contain a particular reference to global financial institutions. It refers to the support of the development of countries in transition. It also states their reconstruction under the patronage of subjects of international law. The authors indicate the importance of the foundation and historical development of international financial institutions, especially the International Monetary Fund, along with its connection with its growing influence in the field of project financing, both regionally and globally. In the second part of the paper, the focus is on the participation of the International Monetary Fund in the reconstruction and revitalization of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the end of the war conflicts in 1995 until today. The comparative review points to the most significant areas that had the support of the International Monetary Fund in the financing of projects but also draws attention to the political side of this support through the imposition of conditions for financial resources to be approved. Through an overview of stand-by arrangements, the authors analyze the connection between the approval of projects by international financial organizations and their relation with the insistence on the implementation of specific reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina

This paper analyzes long-run co-movements between international real estate stock markets and between regions based on bivariate and multivariate tests for cointegration. While the topic has been analyzed in previous studies such as Gallo and Zhang (2009) and Yunus (2009) among others, this paper is of significant contribution to existing studies since we compare results from different cointegration methodologies and explicitly control for instability in cointegration relationships and deviations from normality. Furthermore, the analyzed time period is longer than in previous studies and ranges from 1990 to 2009 covering 20 years. In line with previous studies, the empirical results indicate several cointegration relationships between national real estate stock markets. However, it is also shown that most cointegration relationships are unstable and that the results from cointegration methodologies suggested by Engle and Granger (1987) and Johansen (1988) might be misleading in that common long-run comovements appear to be stronger when structural breaks are considered. Thus, the results indicate that investors would benefit from broadening their investment horizon from their domestic continent to international markets. What does it mean to mediate in the contemporary world? During the Cold War, and since, various forms of international intervention have maintained a fragile strategic and territorially sovereign balance between states and their elite leaders, as in Cyprus or the Middle East, or built new states and inculcated new norms. In the post-Cold War era intervention and mediation shifted beyond the balance of power and towards the liberal peace, as in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Timor Leste. In the case of Northern Ireland, identity, territorial sovereignty, and the nature of governance also began to be mediated, leading to hints of complex, post-liberal formulations. This article offers and evaluates a genealogy of the evolution of international mediation.

This study explores 15 Chinese international students' perceptions and concerns regarding Chinese traditional education, Canadian education, and the Quality Education reform in China conducted by means of an ethnographic research method. Data was collected through one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Students' learning experiences in both China and Canada and knowledge of the Quality Education reform program in China help us to understand this large-scale and ongoing educational reform and indicate some issues with and lend some suggestions to the implementation of the reform from a unique perspective. These findings reveal that the difference between Chinese education and Canadian education as experienced by the Chinese international students is mainly due to the contrast between the traditional or transmission model and the constructivist model. The constructivist approach in Canada has some links to the Quality Education reform in China and can serve as a guiding ideology to orient the reform and solve some problems with its implementation as suggested by the Chinese international students. It is suggested that the Chinese government should refer to the constructivist philosophy to conduct fundamental changes on the current educational evaluation system and exam system. The student-centeredness of constructivist philosophy should be introduced to guide the shifting of the traditional educational philosophy. This study helps Chinese international students to become more aware of different teaching styles in China and Canada, and provides a possible way to promote the Quality Education reform. As well, it informs Canadian professors about traditional thoughts held by Chinese international students and the current significant educational reform in China. The literature on Latin American foreign policy analysis has long called for more empirical and theoretical rigor. Because foreign policy making is a multifaceted concept, there are a wide array of outcomes that scholars use interchangeably to proxy it, thus leading to unclear results on its main determinants. Using Brazil as a case study, we offer a methodological tool that, we believe, can contribute to further closing this gap. We developed an index that quantifies the level of foreign policy engagement, taking into account the decisions made by different governmental actors for 192 country dyads along sixteen years. We confirm that Brazil managed to expand its international relations with both the Global South and Global North and that domestic variables that the Workers' Party ideology played a major role in drove the shift toward giving preeminence to countries in the Global South. The results support the usefulness of our tool, which deepens our understanding of foreign policy making in Latin America, bringing new insights to the discussion.
