In diesem Beitrag werden verschiedene Elemente der New Age-Bewegung in ihrer Bedeutung für Alltag und Lebensführung der Menschen empirisch und vergleichend erfaßt und nach dem religiösen Gehalt des New Age-Spektrums gefragt. Dazu werden als Dimensionen der Analyse auf der Grundlage einer allgemeinen, kultursoziologisch und alltagstheoretisch reorientierten Religionssoziologie angeschnitten: 1. Grundelemente und lebensweltliche Plausibilität einer New Age-Weltbildes; 2. Sozialform und soziale Umsetzung von New Age; 3. Akzeptanz und Relevanz im Bewußtsein und Lebensführung der Menschen; 4. biographische und sinnstiftende Bedeutungen und Funktionen des New Age. Die Ergebnisse legen nahe, am Religionsbegriff im Zusammenhang mit New Age festzuhalten - New Age ist eine neue Religion. (GF)

This book explores the intersection between business and religion from a legal perspective. Taking a fresh look at some of the most compelling literature in law and religion, it proposes a rethinking of what scholars on both sides of the Atlantic have dubbed 'church autonomy' or, more recently, 'corporate religious freedom'.

Congregations and faith-based organizations have become key participants in America's welfare revolution. Recent legislation has expanded the social welfare role of religious communities, thus revealing a pervasive lack of faith in purely economic responses to poverty.Charitable Choices is an ethnographic study of faith-based poverty relief in 30 congregations in the rural south. Drawing on in-depth interviews and fieldwork in Mississippi faith communities, it examines how religious conviction and racial dynamics shape congregational benevolence. Mississippi has long had the nation's highest poverty rate and was the first state to implement a faith-based welfare reform initiative. The book provides a grounded and even-handed treatment of congregational poverty relief rather than abstract theory on faith-based initiatives. The volume examines how congregations are coping with national developments in social welfare policy and reveals the strategies that religious communities utilize to fight poverty in their local communities. By giving particular attention to the influence of theological convictions and organizational dynamics on religious service provision, it identifies both the prospects and pitfalls likely to result from the expansion of charitable choice

With growing diversity of religion and belief in every sector comes the potential for new dialogues across previously impermeable policy and disciplinary silos. This volume critically challenges policy makers to re-imagine religion and belief as an integral part of public life that contains resources, practices, forms of knowledge and experience.

Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Bachelor of Laws Degree, Strathmore University Law School ; World over, religion has been used as a tool for the violation of guaranteed rights and freedoms. As a result of this, emphasis has been made on the negative consequences brought about by the right to freedom of religion. The aim of this paper is to establish the place of religion in the protection and implementation of human rights. The paper argues from the point of view of natural law by asserting that human rights and religion are indispensable to human beings. It further argues that, without religion the government plays an exaggerated role in ensuring that human rights are protected and respected. The paper establishes that religion and human rights are interdependent and that there is need to get rid of the vices being witnessed in different religious communities. This can be done through religious leaders who are able to educate the people at the local level on human rights and the need to respect the rights and freedom of others. Further, any religious commandment that requires the killing of another human being is inconsistent with natural law and therefore in need of internal transformation. Emphasis is made on the need to find a middle ground between the different religious doctrines by relying on ethical principles that are inherent in every human being.

Quoting God charts the many ways in which media reports religion news, how media uses the quoted word to describe lived faith, and how media itself influences-and is influenced by-religion in the public square. The volume intentionally brings together the work of academics, who study religion as a crucial factor in the construction of identity, and the work of professional journalists, who regularly report on religion in an age of instant and competitive news. En este artículo, Assmann hace eco de la crítica a las religiones "de libro" expuesta hace cuando menos 130 años atrás por Max Muller. Pero lo hace de manera por demás notable incorporando la idea fundamental de la religión como lenguaje que se comunica con dispositivos técnicos variados (rituales, sortilegios y por supuesto la escritura alfabética que terminará constituyendo un canon, una semántica religiosa propiamente dicha) con consecuencias definitivas para los modos de religiosidad y para las formas que adquieren las culturas. Assmann define con claridad a las religiones mundiales como religiones transnacionales sujetas a planteamientos misiológicos y, por tanto, susceptibles de ser incorporadas con pleno derecho a los estudios poscoloniales. También estamos frente a un texto donde la semántica religiosa y la semántica científica tienen un feliz encuentro.

Despite an extremely hostile environment, Christian religion has persisted in the Soviet Union. Three types of explanation are most frequently encountered in the Soviet sociological and philosophical literature: the first explanation is in terms of limited and temporary social inequalities, the second points to psychological factors, the third ascribes the survival of religion to its adaptability to changing social circumstances. Each of these explanations is critically examined in the light of empirical sociological work. The author suggests that religion serves as a vehicle of ideological protest; more specifically, it is hypothesized that religion, especially in its sectarian form, has become an alternative world view for a small, but significant number of people who, during a period of great social upheaval and rapid social change, have found Communist ideology unacceptable or insufficient as an integrating value system.

Estas comunidades de moros hubieron de adaptarse a la nueva realidad política y social castellana y reubicarse en lugares urbanos distintos a los que habían ocupado durante la etapa andalusí. El conocimiento que vamos adquiriendo sobre sus morerías, sobre todo para finales del siglo xv, permite realizar un primer acercamiento a sus espacios de oración. Recopilamos aquí las noticias documentales sobre las mezquitas mudéjares extremeñas./n ; During the Low Middle Ages, after the Christian conquest of the Spanish region of Extremadura, several Mudejars aljamas were formed with the Muslims who opted for their permanence in the territory. These Moorish communities had to adapt to the new political and social reality of the Kingdom of Castile and had to relocate to different urban areas than they had occupied before. The knowledge that we are acquiring about their neighborhoods, especially at the end of the 15th Century, allows us to do a first approach to their prayer spaces. We collect in this paper the documentary information about Mudejar mosques in Extremadura./n
