The intensification of Sino-Japanese antipathy in Southeast Asia through competitive vaccine diplomacy is a significant development, given the region's geopolitical importance to both rivals. Despite this, there has been a lack of research on the geopolitical dimensions of Japan and China's vaccine contestation in Southeast Asia. Thereby, this study aims to examine the influence of geopolitics on Sino-Japanese competitive vaccine diplomacy in the region, using online-based secondary data. The study argues that both China and Japan have donated millions of vaccine shots to Southeast Asian countries to reinforce their relationships with the region, driven by their respective geopolitical interests. Overall, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the interplay between geopolitics and vaccine diplomacy in Southeast Asia.

AbstractThe COVID‐19 pandemic has devastated the world economy, which has made global economic recovery a considerable challenge. When a city experiences disasters, it needs to utilize innovative governance instruments, such as digital technologies, to foster economic recovery resilience. This article proposes a theoretical framework aimed at revealing the interconnection between digital technologies and economic recovery resilience, and it presents the case of Hangzhou, China, to illustrate this framework. This article finds that digital technologies can foster economic recovery resilience by sustaining a collaborative network during disasters. This article also reveals that government‐sponsored platforms, public‐private partnerships, and citizen coproduction are the underlying dynamics through which digital technologies build resilience. This article provides a nuanced understanding of how digital technologies might impact the theory and practice of economic recovery resilience in the digital era.

AbstractDigital transformation is globally pervasive, and exploring how it can shape enterprises' sustainable development is significant. Using the panel data of 710 listed corporates in China from 2011 to 2020, this paper empirically investigates the impact of digital transformation on corporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance with the fixed effect model and the SYS‐GMM method. The results indicate that digital transformation significantly improves corporate ESG performance, especially environmental and social performance. A looser financing constraint (FC) environment will make the improvements in ESG performance from digital transformation more visible. Among corporates with low FCs, private corporates, and non‐technical corporates, digital transformation has a more noticeable effect on improving ESG performance by easing FCs. Our research presents implications for policymakers and business decision‐makers to achieve alignment between corporate digitalization and sustainability.

Abstract
Studies on digital Asia tend to cluster around certain interrelated core strands, which has led other topics to be largely overlooked, one of which is the state. Scholars neglect the state to their detriment. First, the article shows that the state is not a monolith but, rather, a venue for contesting and debating different concerns, in which various interests collide and various actors seek to gain influence. Second, the article claims that, to a significant degree, the state can create and shape the landscape within which other actors conduct their affairs. It does not do so in a vacuum but often in response to particular mobilized social and economic concerns. This contribution mostly focuses on China, but its findings – as the concluding section discusses – also apply to other countries in Asia and worldwide.

Development of infrastructure in Kenya, especially transportation infrastructure, began receiving partial financing investments by the Chinese government in 2014 as part of China's broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). While there has been significant journalistic, academic, and governmental exploration of China's new global investment strategies, less analysis has focused on local reactions to these new development relationships. In this study, we gather publicly available social media data centered around a large Kenya-Chinese infrastructure project, the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). We used automated natural language processing strategies as well as manual analysis of social media data from Twitter to understand discussion topics, attitudes, and sentiments of Kenyans toward domestic Kenya-China infrastructure projects. We advance research on multilingual digital expression through the analysis of social media data in both English and Swahili.

AbstractThe annexation of Tibet into the People's Republic of China in the 1950s led to an exodus of nearly 80,000 Tibetans along with the fourteenth Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. Since then, thousands of Tibetans have taken refuge in the neighboring countries. Many live as refugees in different parts of the world today. Although the Tibetan refugee community has emerged as a successful model for other displaced communities, the individual struggles of these refugees in foreign lands cannot be underestimated. Dhompa's book A Home in Tibet shines a light on this other side of their exilic existence by raising questions about identity, home, country, and memory. It outlines the hardships, confusion, and contestations that Tibetans face on a daily basis. After a short introduction to provide context, this article reports a conversation with Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, which grippingly addresses these issues.

AbstractCorporate social responsibility (CSR) has been identified as a critical factor influencing consumer decision‐making. However, there has been little empirical research on whether and how CSR affects consumer outcomes in the context of natural disasters. Against the backdrop of the Erke donation event that occurred during the flood in Henan Province, China, the present study examined the relationship between perceived corporate social responsibility (PCSR) and consumer purchase intention/behavior during a special period. We found that PCSR was positively related to consumers' purchase intention and purchase behavior. We also found that while national identity partially mediated the association between PCSR and purchase intentions, this mediating effect was not found in the path from PCSR to purchase behavior. Additionally, we found that herd mentality moderated the direct relationship between PCSR and purchase intention, but not the mediated path.

Abstract
Since the 21st century, the digital economy has developed by leaps and bounds. As a key factor of production in the digital economy era, data plays an important role in China's green transformation. Based on the panel data of 282 prefecture-level cities in China from 2011 to 2019, this paper studies the relationship between data elements and green transformation. The results show that data elements can significantly promote green transformation by improving technical efficiency and achieving technological progress. Based on the above conclusions, all regions should speed up the infrastructure construction of digital economy, train digital talents, reduce resource dependence, improve the green, low-carbon and circular development system, formulate a digital economy development strategy considering local economic development levels, improve resource utilization efficiency and labor productivity, and actively promote green transformation.

AbstractPayment notifications are becoming ubiquitous due to the popularity of online payment, which are usually considered to be records of consumption. However, the effect of payment notifications on consumer behavior has not been fully understood. Given this research void, this study explores the effects of payment notifications on consumers' consumption amount during a multiple‐purchase shopping journey. Considering the prevalence of online payment in China, we conducted four experiments using Chinese samples. The results confirm that payment notifications can evoke consumers' pain of payment, which consequently reduces consumers' subsequent shopping amount. Additionally, we argue that the effects of payment notifications on consumer behavior are different in the early/late stage of the shopping journey or in the gift‐purchasing/self‐purchasing conditions. The findings of this article could help payment application developers to better design payment notification functions.

In 2022, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the son and namesake of the late dictator, won a landslide victory in the presidential election after campaigning largely on nostalgia for the Philippines' authoritarian past and perceived former greatness. The country was finally able to reopen from COVID-19 lockdowns after enduring a surge in the Omicron variant in the earlier months of the year. Global food and energy inflation, caused by excessive fiscal spending and monetary easing adopted during the pandemic, in addition to the aftershock of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has led to an unprecedented food crisis in the Philippines that has been particularly difficult for the poor. In terms of foreign policy, Marcos Jr.'s arrival marked a return to more conventional diplomatic interactions with Washington at a time of increasing tension between the United States and China.

En febrero de 2022 se cumplieron 50 años de la relación bilateral entre China y Argentina. Es un buen momento para poder recordar la historia de esta relación, sus hitos fundacionales, los consensos diplomáticos alcanzados y, también, poder analizar el estado actual de esta relación bilateral. En las últimas décadas el vínculo entre ambos países se ha fortalecido particularmente por el incremento del comercio y la llegada de inversiones de capitales chinos a la Argentina. La relación comercial asimétrica plantea desafíos para revertir la situación actual y obliga a que la Argentina planifique su relación estratégica con la nueva potencia global. En este artículo tratamos de entender el pasado y la actualidad de una relación que cumple 50 años y que requiere ajustes para poder potenciar su fortalecimiento en el futuro.

Despite giving lip service to the importance of respecting the "centrality" of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Canada's Indo-Pacific strategy (CIPS) conflicts with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Instead, Canada defines its position in the Indo-Pacific through the lens of American priorities and perspectives. For its part, the AOIP expresses an ASEAN consensus position but fails to capture the highly complex and varied views of different ASEAN states toward the US and China. The ASEAN states are status-quo powers navigating a region that is undergoing profound strategic and economic changes. By allying itself so firmly with the US, Canada participates in sowing tension in the Indo-Pacific and may face potential consequences in the longer term. CIPS allows little room for the complex regional relations that the ASEAN states are trying to balance.
