Theologie wird gelehrt, Religion wird gelebt. Frauen in der gegenwärtigen Gesellschaft leben Religion im Kontext ihrer besonderen Lebenswelten zwischen Tradition und Neugestaltung, zwischen Verwerfung und Neuaneignung, zwischen klassischen Frauenbildern und deren Verwandlungen, zwischen konventioneller Glaubenspraxis mit ihren Symbolen und kreativen Weiterentwicklungen. Die unterschiedlichen Formen und Inhalte gelebter Religion geraten immer stärker auch ins Blickfeld von Theologie und Religionswissenschaft, seit Wissenschaftlerinnen mit ihrer Erforschung begonnen haben. Dabei wurden verschiedene herkömmliche Methoden der empirischen Forschung angewendet und unter feministischer Perspektive herausgefordert und weiterentwickelt. Das vorliegende Handbuch gibt Einblick in die Forschungswerkstätten von Theologinnen und Religionswissenschaftlerinnen und zeigt damit nicht nur die bestehende Methodenvielfalt in der Religionsforschung auf, sondern präsentiert auch neue Forschungsergebnisse zur gelebten Religion von Frauen - sowohl im christlichen Kontext als auch im Bereich muslimischer Religiosität, neuer religiöser Orientierungen und Formen säkularer Spiritualität.

The trajectory of Paul Ricoeur's thought from the fallible to the capable human person offers a hopeful vision of human nature constitutive of our shared political life. Yet, by necessity, hope arises in response to the tragic, which also features in Ricoeur's work at the existential and ethical levels. At the same time hope and tragedy represent concepts at the limit of philosophical reasoning, introducing meeting points with religious discourse. Exploring those meeting points reveals the contribution of religious thinking to the understanding of hope and tragedy and establishes Ricoeur's political thinking as ultimately shaped by their interplay.

THE AUTHOR TACKLES THE PROBLEM OF "POLITICAL VOCABULARY." SOME THEORISTS USED VOCABULARY THAT WAS CONTEMPORARY AND COULD BE EASILY UNDERSTOOD BY THEIR AUDIENCE, WHILE OTHERS MAY MODIFY OR REVOLUTIONIZE THE LINGUISTIC AND CONCEPTUAL PRACTICES OF THEIR OWN OR A LATER TIME. THE PAPER ANALYZES THE WORKS OF MONTESQUIEU AND CONCLUDES THAT HIS LANGUAGE WAS A SHEWDLY CALCULATED COMPROMISE BETWEEN CONTEMPORARY PRACTICES AND THE SORT OF CHANGES JUDGED NECESSARY TO CONVEY THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL INNOVATIONS.

The history of religion, like some other social sciences, is difficult to define precisely; a historical phenomenology & a historical typology both have weaknesses. Primitive, archaic, historical, & modern religions display significant differences; Third World religions are unique in being products of societies that passed directly from archaic culture to modern civilization through colonialization. Several examples are presented of religious phenomena that require an interdisciplinary approach. Bourgeois society has deprived religion of the function of legitimizing social & political behavior, but it remains a source of meaning & strongly influences modernization processes, taking the form of messianic movements that seek either national unity or the abolition of SC society. This paper considers the relationship between Europeans' religious characteristics & support for the European Union. Using Eurobarometer data from the 1970s through the 1990s, we find that Catholics have been far stronger supporters of European integration than Protestants have, & that the devout in both traditions have been more in favor of the integration process than have nominal adherents. The effects of religion survive both longitudinal & intensive cross-sectional analyses incorporating alternative explanations for support of the EU. These findings suggest that, if religion is declining as a social & political force, underlying support for European unity may also be dwindling. Public approval of the European Union may thus depend increasingly on the economic performance of national governments & of the Union itself. 2 Tables, 72 References. DISSATISFACTION WITH ESTABLISHED MODES OF SCHOLARSHIP IS A contemporary manifestation common to all the social sciences in varying degrees. In the terminology of Thomas Kuhn, which in its widespread adoption seems in no small measure to have contribted to the new waves of methodological consciousness, the prevailing 'paradigms', which were largely consolidated in the 1950s, are being explicitly and often vehemently challenged. A burgeoning critical literature is readily apparent throughout the social sciences and, for that matter, beyond.

This book explains and assesses the relevance of the ideas of Gramsci. It takes his core concepts and uses them to analyse features of present-day politics and assess the extent to which his ideas can aid the understanding of the contemporary political world.
