This corpus consists of two collections of seventeenth-century English "newsbooks". They address a wide range of news (especially foreign and political news) from the time of their publication (the first 5 and a half months of Oliver Cromwell's reign as Lord Protector). Important contemporary events include Glencairn's Rebellion in Scotland, the negotiation of a peace with Holland, and Queen Christina of Sweden's abdication.
Pros and cons of online anonymity, focusing on privacy, free speech, prevention of persecution, and law enforcement; role of computer services called anonymous re-mailers, which resend messages after stripping identifying headers; international focus. Included in a collection of articles under the overall title "The privacy issue".
This article addresses recent contestations of the role of narrative inquiry in the field of identity analysis and in qualitative inquiry more generally. In contrast to essentializing tendencies in the field of narrative inquiry (which have been contested under the headers of narrative exceptionalism, narrative imperialism, and narrative necessity), I am reiterating my proposal to theorize narrative inquiry as narrative practice (formerly 'small story approach') within which narratives and narrative inquiry present a more modest but thoroughly viable contribution.
An analysis of the impact of the packetization interval for constant bit rate traffic has been done in the context of the IEEE 802.16 MAC layer. Bandwidth used for overheads which include lower layer headers as well as retransmissions at the MAC layer is considered. An optimal packetization interval selection method for delay sensitive applications such as VoIP is proposed. Enhancements to the Unsolicited Grant Service retransmission strategy are proposed to further improve delay and minimize packet loss while making efficient use of the limited bandwidth resource.

International audience ; The paper overview one of the projects at the middle 80-th, supported by USSR government and oriented on breakthrough in hardware/software development. Several academic groups with industrial companies fulfilled a lot of investigations, built prototypes of perspective computers and intellectual programs. Author, as one of participants and headers of START project, analyses some principles of the project organizing structure. Although most brilliant results of START project were not used by industry because of economic and political crisis in Soviet Union, the impact of enthusiastic work and generating new ideas, was great for all major developers. Several opinions of participants are presented in conclusion.
This specification defines a mechanism for expressing user decisions about personal data processing under the European Union's data protection regulations, and similar regulations outside the EU. The mechanism functions through the exchange of HTTP headers between the user agent and the web server, or through an equivalent JavaScript interface. The mechanism serves as an automated means for users to give or refuse consent, to withdraw any consent already given, as well as to object to processing. The mechanism provides an alternative to existing nonautomated consent management approaches (e.g. 'cookie banners') and aims to reduce the efforts of the different parties involved regarding the protection of users' privacy. ; Series: Sustainable Computing Reports and Specifications
; The present study deals with the repercussion of the esperanto movement in the media in Spain, both in the press of the time and in publications published in esperanto by the various associations. It is a journey that begins in 1898, from the appearance of the first journalistic chronicle in favor of esperanto written by Pi y Margall in El Nuevo Régimen, until the end of the Civil War in 1939. In this way, the arrival of the linguistic proposal of the Polish L.L Zamenhof to Spanish territory is detailed, taking into account the emergence of associations that dealt with the dissemination of the language through their publications in each period. The development of Esperantism will host the first universal congress in Spain during the reign of Alfonso XIII. After the hard blow that the Great War supposed, from 1923 to 1931, the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera took place, leaving behind a golden period of the labor movement. With the arrival of the Second Republic in 1931, a flourishing stage took place where Republicans, Freemasons, Catholics and the military promoted the spread of the language. Until then, Spain was divided into neutral groups and workers, which in turn were fragmented into anarchists, socialists or communists. In the same way, a very active and present Catalan movement was created that would end with the triumph of the Francoist side in the civil war. The study delves into esperanto publications that make up a reality poorly attended in the academic world.
The article presents the first part of a study devoted to the analysis of the functions of cryptographic fragments in the Olonets Codex of Incantations of the 17th century. The paper defines a corpus of cryptographic fragments in the Olonets Codex (55 fragments in Russian in 9 records, as well as the cryptography of the word "amen" in another 18 texts). It has been established that cryptography in the Olonets Codex gravitates towards texts of verbal magic, and among them - to incantations of social and interpersonal themes and "forbidden". The positions of the encrypted fragments in the structure of individual records (headers, instructions, incantations themselves) and within the incantations are revealed, fragments of texts with cryptograms are given, and a cryptographic vocabulary is compiled.
This paper presents initial findings from longer-term transdisciplinary research concerning the social dynamics of urban neighbourhoods. It examines the spatial clustering of ethnicity and class in neighbourhoods over urban history, from Bronze Age Mesopotamia to contemporary cities. Fourteen distinct drivers of social clustering are identified, grouped under the headers of macro-structural forces, the state, local regimes and institutions, and bottom–up processes. The operation of these processes is examined through three historical and three archaeological case studies of clustering. It is concluded that: clustering is a common, but not universal, attribute of cities; there is much variation in clustering patterns, both within and between cities and urban traditions; and, consideration of a wide variety of drivers is required to understand historical and modern residential dynamics.
The article makes an attempt to analyze the evolution of the social and legal status of the rabbi in the context of state policy formation towards the Jews. In the diachronic section we analyzed the legal framework which had been "aligned" with the government's policy on the national question, the issues of religious policy and particularly in the "Jewish question".The author identifies three periods which in varying degree show the government's attitude to the institution of the rabbinate, as well as the changes that have occurred in the social and legal status of rabbi. Detailed analysis of the legal framework allows allocating of two requirements vectors formed by the government. The first one is the idea of education, which forms the main demand of the tsarist government to the rabbi - educational qualification. The second one regulates the activity of a rabbi as a controlled person associated with the public authorities. The author also makes an analysis of the representatives of the orthodox camp activity, defines its role in trying to "reanimate" the social status of the rabbi.
This paper focuses on three episodes of US. policymaking concerning illicit drugs, one. during the Nixon administration, one during the Carter administration, and the contemporary war on drugs. Drawing upon evidence from drug‐related Congressional hearings, the Gallup Poll, counts of relevant articles in the Headers' Guide to Periodical Literature and content analysis of the New York Times Index, the three episodes are characterized as fating one of Cobb, Ross, and Ross's (1976) models of agenda‐setting. The paper then considers the linkage between these differences in agenda setting and the very different policy content of each episode. While the Nixon and Carter episodes exemplify the dynamics of "mobilization" and "inside access" agenda setting respectively, the contemporary drug policy episode is anomalous. It suggests the need for an extension of the Cobb, Ross, and Ross typology to incorporate a new, "network" type of agenda setting.
Nowadays, datacenters become more complicated and handle many more users' requests. Custom protocols are becoming more demanded, and an advanced load balancer to distribute the requests among servers is essential to serve the users quickly and efficiently. P4 introduced a new way to manipulate all packet headers. Therefore, by making use of the P4 ability to decapsulate the transport layer header, a new algorithm of load balancing is proposed. The algorithm has three main parts. First, a TCP/UDP separation is used to separate the flows based on the network layer information about the used protocol in the transport layer. Second, a flow size prediction technique is adopted, which relies on the service port number of the transport layer. Lastly, a probing system is considered to detect and solve the failure of the link and server. The proposed load balancer enhances response time of both resources usage and packet processing of the datacenter. Also, our load balancer improves link failure detection by developing a custom probing protocol.
