The longstanding uncertainty about how policymakers should grapple with social science demonstrating racism persists in the modern administrative state. This Essay examines the uses and misuses of social science and expertise in immigration policymaking. More specifically, it highlights three immigration policies that dismiss social scientific findings and expertise as part of presidential and agency decision-making: border control, crime control, and extreme vetting of refugees to prevent terrorism. The Essay claims that these rejections of expertise undermine both substantive and procedural protections for immigrants and undermine important functions of the administrative state as a curb on irrationality in policymaking. It concludes by suggesting administrative, political, and judicial mechanisms that would encourage policymakers to leverage expertise and curb irrationality in immigration policymaking.

The social sciences contextualize the study of the social movements, considering that they provide and underlie theories and social methods that allow to observe the political, historical, and territorial configuration processes of such movements. In this context, it is appropriate to explore the scope of disciplines, the social theory, and the method in order to explain the theoretical contact elements and discipline of the social sciences along with the social movements, which are understood as objects of study. ; Las ciencias sociales contextualizan el estudio de los movimientos sociales, considerando que aportan y fundamentan teorías y métodos sociales que permiten observar los procesos de configuración política, histórica y territorial de estos movimientos. The social sciences have inherited a not so clear relationship with the social politics throughout the history. At the first moment the concept of social sciences came into use in the 19th century the first organizations that were promoting them were not located in the universities. They were located in the Public Sector. They brought into the scenery not only professional of the area, but also politicians, clerics and businessmen. The main objective was the promoting of the reforms that consider the social politics able to improve the so defined social problems. These associations thought that by collecting different kind of data regarding these problems they would reach a clear insight on the directions the state should follow in the framework of different politics and reforms. As a result, the national research capacity is of the highest importance to the ability of a state to invent and implement successfully its politics based on evidences that concern and come as a reaction to the concerns and issues of the social problems as a whole. In this article I will be presenting first of all an overview of the scientific research in Albania in the area of the social sciences by pointing out the main areas that deserve to be the prior ones in the contest of developing activities that aim the implementation of the research in Social Sciences. Also, a great number of Institutions has been contacted with the aim of receiving official information and data on the functioning and on the potential problems that can be faced during the research processes. These institutions have been selected based on their involvement at the area of the scientific research of the social sciences. At first this will involve the policy makers at the central level, like the Ministry of Education and Sciences and the main research actors in the public and in the private sector. The criteria of the geographical and the subjects coverage has been also used in order to be able to present a public institutions of the higher education and research but even the enterprises that act in the research area are mainly focusing to the integration of these two systems which have been working separately for a long period of time and that must become efficient in order to adapt to the conditions of a country that has limited financial resources. This article is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the scientific research in Albania, focusing in defining the priority areas for the research in social sciences. The information about the higher education and the potential problems that it faces, is based on a big number of research institutions, selected based on their involvement in scientific research in social sciences. This article brings into evidence the fact that in order to establish a stable and effective infrastructure in scientific research in Albania, is important to work in different directions. A successful way to increase the efficasity through the elements of the "innovative system" is by working with organizations that work in specific sectors of the economy, aiming for a possible cooperation in scientific search, for an important social contribution.

This article surveys risk factors for genocide and genocide prevention from the perspectives of four social science disciplines: sociology, social psychology, politicalcscience, and economics. Each discipline brings a valuable set of concepts and tools to bear in genocide research. More over, fruitful multi- and inter-disciplinary collaboration across the four disciplines (and other fields) is shedding new insights into why genocidehas have been such a recurring tragedy in human affairs and how such atrocities can be prevented.

The human aspect plays an important role in the social sciences. The behavior of people has become a vital area of focus in the social sciences as well. Interdisciplinary Behavior and Social Sciences contains papers that were originally presented at the 3rd International Congress on Interdisciplinary Behavior and Social Science 2014 (ICIBSoS 2014), held 1-2 November 2014 at the Bali Dynasty Resort, Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. The contributions deal with various interdisciplinary research topics, particularly in the fields of social sciences, education, economics and arts. The papers focus especially.

The pursuit of sustainable goals entails substantial technological and scientific advancements. However, commitment and cooperation from vast segments of our societies is also required to turn the efforts into actions. Just a mention from a straightforward example: climate stabilization is not only a scientific and technological task, it also depends on activating processes of social change on several levels. An interesting concept to raise here is the social tipping point, which is a point where a group rapidly and dramatically changes its behavior by widely adopting a previously rare practice. The concept, taken from the field of behavioural sciences, has strongly emerged in climate literature but it is potentially of interest to face any other urgent societal challenge. Due to its participatory spirit, citizen science provides a framework to further reflect on the notion of social tipping point and integrate social dimensions into any specific SDG oriented research activities. Grounded on our current CoAct EU project, the presentation will discuss a general model for a citizen social science which offers communities, groups or individuals the possibility to directly intervene into scientific research and to then actively contribute to SDGs. Citizen social science engages citizen bodies concerned with specific social issues in co-research and imagines the possibility to support demands of the public with scientific evidence. The joint effort represents itself a way to reinterpret scientific practice, much closer to collective action and policy making and very much linked to public debate. The presentation will take experiences from contexts such as climate justice, mental health care provision, air pollution exposure, gender biased interactions in public spaces among others to encourage a further enhancement of social dimensions in citizen science practices if they want to more effectively support SDGs.
