Remote and thinly populated, Maine was long insulated from many of the demographic and economic trends of states to the south. Maine Politics and Government traces recent changes in the state's system as agriculture, manufacturing, and maritime trades have ceded dominance to high-tech businesses, extensive commercial development, and an expanding governmental sector

This article is the first in a new series of Editor's Review Column's to be published in Policy Futures in Education. The primary and modest purpose of this innovation for the journal is expand the number of texts that are reviewed in it. However, in doing so, a broader intention, which attempts to engage with and encourage interdisciplinary work in the field of education, as well as draw other from outside the field to it, is revealed. A large amount of excellent and important work is published in a range of disciplines which educationalists are not often introduced to and, equally, the educational resonances and ramifications of this work often go unexplored. Each column will be guided by a theme which draws together several texts that are considered to offer insights which might productively inform educational theory and debate. The objective of the column is not to exhaustively relay the content of each text and display its full implicit or potential educational reach; it is rather to shine a light on these texts so that they might be examined further. We hope that readers of the journal will find this column of interest and that new readers from other disciplines might be drawn to the work of the journal through it.
Public Administration is positioned and interacts with political level which conceives laws and decisions and on the other hand, citizens, who are directly affected by these laws and decisions. In other words, the public administration is an essential element and the strongest pillar that provides stability in a country. The paper aims to treat the relationship between the political level and the administrative apparatus and the interaction between them. For this reason, different schools of thought regarding the relationship between politics and administration are mentioned including established practices in different contexts. Special focus is given to the current situation in Kosovo unfolding legal basis and practices created during the interaction between the political and administrative level.
In 1996, Belgian politics centered around three major issues: the jobs contract, the 1997 budget and political fallout of the Dutroux affair (the four girls killed by a pedophile ring).During the first months of the year, Prime Minister Dehaene attempted to win support for a comprehensive jobs contract, but the draft agreement was turned down by the Socialist trade union militants. Nevertheless, the measures contained in the agreement were later implemented by the cabinet, without the consent of the employers and organized labor. Together with adjustments made to the social security system and implementation of budgetary measures needed to reach the conditions set by the EU for joining the Economic and Monetary Union, the jobs contract was implemented by means of special powers. The cabinet obtained these special powers from Parliament before the summer recess. After the summer, as a result ofthe Dutroux alfair, the cabinet dealt with legal reform, in the process trying to quell tensions arisen among the law enforcement agencies.

Abstract Although COVID-19 is still very much around, we have reached the stage of the pandemic where we begin to look back and analyze our response to this crisis. It is, however, a monumental task to piece information together from thousands upon thousands of published articles about the pandemic from different academic disciplines. Gadarian, Goodman, and Pepinsky's book, Pandemic Politics, is an authoritative guide that walks us through the American pandemic response, using state-of-the-art multiwave panel data. The argument of the book tells a compelling, coherent, and, ultimately, depressing story about how America's four "preexisting conditions"—political polarization, Donald Trump, a troubled health care system, and systemic inequalities—set the stage for a perfect storm in which the politics dominated public health, culminating in a disastrous pandemic response. In this review article, I situate the book's argument in a broader literature on politicization of science, the importance of populism and anti-intellectualism, misinformation, and trust, filling in some of the considerations the authors omitted from their analyses.

In Embracing Watershed Politics, political scientists Edella Schlager and William Blomquist provide timely illustrations and thought-provoking explanations of why political considerations are essential, unavoidable, and in some ways even desirable elements of decision making about water and watersheds. With decades of combined study of water management in the United States, they focus on the many contending interests and communities found in America's watersheds, the fundamental dimensions of decision making, and the impacts of science, complexity, and uncertainty on watershed management.
